Some rambling thoughts in no specific order

My mom is visiting, she arrived last Thursday the 1st. We are almost visited out. I will take her to Shelley's house tomorrow for the remainder of her stay. She goes back to Kansas City on Saturday morning.
On the 4 th we visited Wendy and family at Wendy's house in Chesapeake. I planted myself under a nice shade tree and watched everyone swim and socialize, as well as, visit with those who joined me under the tree. I did not swim because the sun was very intense. I am sure there are many burnt shoulders on those who did spend lots of time in the pool.
Tom, Linda's husband, and Phil, my son-in-law (Wendy's), were the cooks that day, each with their own BBQ pits cooking ribs and chicken wings for us. I told Tom that the reason he can't afford to retire is because he spent to much on BBQ sauce. He said he got a "deal" on it. Every one brought side dishes so there was plenty of good food of all varieties.
Ann came down with an impacted tooth, so she did not come with mom and me, and Kari had made other plans with her friends for the 4th, so she was absent also.
On Monday the 5th, mom and I went to visit my long lost cousin, Kim, in Williamsburg. Her daughter, Katelynn, is having her 11th birthday party this Sunday and Kari wants to go and meet her, so, I suppose, if Kari drives, we will go. That probably sounds like "Ho Hum" on my part, but I am getting where a few hours behind the wheel is a drudge. Ya know, old and stiff, can not sit in the car seat behind the wheel and be comfortable more than 10 minuets. Thank God for cruise control or I would not drive at all.
Ya can not ramble on like this without mentioning the weather. HOT! It is going to be 104 today and it has only been a few degrees cooler for the past few days. My electric bill doubled for June from winter amounts and it looks like July is going to be even worse. I have raised the thermostat to 80 in the house. If I feel warm in the house I just step outside and stand in the sun for a few moments and then come back in the house. Then 80 feels cold.
I do not have to mow much now that we have had no rain for over a month. Most of the weeds are stunted from the lack of moisture. Even those aggravating weeds that grow tall have a yellow flower on top that turns into a dandelion looking
thing. I was thinking about applying "broad leaf killer" but thought better of it because then the yard would be mostly dirt. LOL. Grass needs water to survive while my weeds just hold their breath, so to speak, and wait until rain comes.
Even some of the tulip trees at higher elevations in yard have their leaves turning yellow and falling to the ground.
Every evening after the sun sets, I take my gallon jug around to water the potted plants and our new arrivals we planted earlier this year. I actually use the water hose on the new flower bed because it is in direct sunlight all day which sucks the moisture right out of the soil.
Enough for this time.
