Daily Post For Chuck - Sunday January 25 2009

Dawn fixed pancakes for breakfast this morning and burn up her flat grill. She has had the grill for over 20 years so I guess that she got her monies worth out of it. We went to Church today. The High Council spoke. I work on my genealogy with Bro. Merrick trying to figure out how to fix a problem with the new family search program. I think we have a solution but it will take some time and work to undue the incorrect records that are there.

Jerry Johnson gave the lesson in Priesthood meeting today it was on being able to do our callings. During general Priesthood I arose and reminded the brothern that the fight on Prop 8 I not over and that our Attorney General Pat Brown is actively apposing the confirmation of Prop 8 by the Court.

We came home after Church and Dawn fixed grilled sandwiches for us. I starting working on fixing the problem with our genealogy and made a lot of progress. The problem is that some one has separated the marriages of James Livingston to his three wife's so that he is listed as his own father and grandfather.

Dawn fixed her enchilada soup Robert, April's boyfriend came over for dinner. Aaron and his girlfriend Jen where also here.

After dinner we where able to talk with Chris and his kids on Skype it is a lot of fun to be able to see and talk to them. They seem to have a good time talking with us. They are learning that it is OK to be on the camera. I am so glad that we have this ability. It makes keeping in touch a lot easier.

Well we are finally getting some rain. Had light to moderate rain today. Very warm rain but we are supposed to get a storm from the Gulf of Alaska soon that should bring snow to the mountains. I would really like to see the rivers and lakes fill up.

Had a call from the Bishop today, he wants to take me up on the offer of the Van. I need to get all of the paperwork together for him.

Walked for 20 plus minutes on the treadmill. Watch some of Oprah's best life series.

Brandy call and wanted to know if I wanted to go to the show when Dawn got off Work. So when Dawn got home we went to go see Four Christmas'. It was really funny and a good show. Really deals with how dysfunctional we have become.

Dawn and I came home fixed a salad for dinner and watch Ratatouille it was a cute movie.

I worked on getting my Computer HD cleaned up as I was running out of space.

Road Trip to Salmon Falls and Coloma.

Today I did something that I have never done before. A road trip on my Scooter. For those of you how don't know I have a 25o Lance scooter that I ride instead of a car.

I met my buddy Dave at his house around 10am in the morning. He was supposed to go but he had two kids home sick and had thrown his back out so he couldn't go. I talked with him for a couple of hours and then decided to go ahead and ride at least up to Salmon falls. So I hopped on my bike and off I went. Some of you how know me know that I used to go to Coloma and Salmon Falls all the time in the 10 or so years that I spent white water rafting on the Southfork. It has been at least 10 years since I have been up there. I was really surprised at all the homes that are now on Salmon Falls road. Wow. The road is the same but it now seems like you are riding in town instead of being in the country. My Scooter did really well on hills and turns. I was really pleased. I may be able to take other road trips.

After being out at Folsom Lake last Saturday I new the river would be low, but I have never seen it this low.

This is Salmon Falls Bridge. Normally the water level is about 50 feet higher than you see now. I have been here when the water was high enough that you could almost touch the bride from the boat. The area that I am walking in should be under about 25 to 50 ft of water.

After hanging around here and taking some pictures I decided that I would go ahead and ride on up to Coloma. It was really a fun ride. Like I said before I had only driven this road in a car. Never on a bike. I stopped at some of the new park areas that have been constructed since I been here last. Nice areas on Hwy 49 to stop for a picnic. Coloma has not changed much except for the number of rafting companies that are there. Even along Hwy 49 there are at least 10 new rafting companies. I will have to come back up here during the spring and summer runs. You will probably be able to walk across the river on the rafts.

As I was going along Hyw 49 I saw a couple of deer I was able to shoot this one. This is the only way that I can get a deer anymore.

Entering Coloma I drove down Lotus Road which runs along the river and got to see some of the rapids along this stretch of the river at low water. It is really different to see the rocks and boulders out of the water. I stopped at the Lotus campground but it was closed for the winter.

Went on to Coloma Park this was the put in for the gorge run. This picture is looking down river and at what used to be the first class two rapid of the trip. Now it is maybe a class 1/4 you would have to carry the raft to get buy this rapid. They have really done a lot of work at this park. It is much nicer. They don't let you take out here anymore. They have built a new take out area further down river off Lotus rd.

I went on down the road to Troublemaker. Normally a class 4 rapid and a lot of fun. I have some great memories of this Rapid.

I have never seen this rapid at this low water before. I was interesting to me to see the rock formations that make up this rapid. If you look closely you can see the rock that is named gunsite. It sits right in the middle of the river channel and you have to go either left or right of it to make it thru. It is one of the reasons that this rapid is so challenging. We have see a lot of rafts get hung up here. And unfortunatley several people have lost their lives in this rapid. It is not one to take lightly. I have been on it at over 10,000 CFS and as little as 1200 CFS a big difference. This is what they call and S turn rapid as it make two major turns in about 100 feet and a drop of about 10 feet.

After hanging around for awhile I went on back home. Over all a really good road trip.

Just as a note for those of you who don't know your California history. Coloma is the site of Sutter's Mill. Where gold was discovered and the start of the California gold rush. There is a very nice park that has parts of the old mill and out buildings. A nice day trip is you live in this area.

Christmas Time 2008

Ok so it has been a couple of weeks since I posted. But it's been Christmas time and I just didn't get it done.

So another Christmas has come and gone. Really different for us this year. Our family is in the middle of the economic slow down and none of us had a lot of money this year. We tried to focus on the real meaning of Christmas.

Dawn had to work on Christmas Eve so I spent Christmas Eve with Jeanne and April. After they went home I watched It's a wonderful life and Scrooge. 2 of my favorite Christmas time movies. Dawn had to work a lot later than normal because of flight delays. We slept in on Christmas Day that was really different. We didn't have anyone here to get up early.

We had our family Dinner at 5pm and all of our family who is in this area was here. We had BBQ ribs for dinner. Yum. After dinner we had our Christmas party. The kids got to open their present and had a really good time. This year the adults had a white elephant exchange and it was really fun. Everyone brought a gift for both male and female and put them into the pot. We all drew number as to who was going to go first. A lot of trading and stealing of others presents a great time by all.

The most fun by me was playing with Blake and Sonny and possibly 2 new grandchildren Rebecca and Zac. They are the children of April's boyfriend Robert. They announced that they were planning on getting married in 2009 after they work out stuff.

Anyway we had nerf gun wars. All of the kids had their own Nerf gun and darts. We chased each other all over the house. Robert and April played for a while. Blake and Rebecca had a great time shooting Robert and me. We played for about an hour before we all got tired out and the rest of the family was tired of being used as barricades. Over all everyone had a great Christmas.

I was really wonderful to be surrounded by our family.

Check out Shannon's blog for some pictures of the Day.
