Brazil

Brazil has been a good place to visit. The Brazilians we have met have been absolutely wonderful. So friendly and helpful. Any query from us resulted in them going out of their way to see us right no matter how long it took. All the way along they have been extremely generous with their time. And what is worth more than time! We couldn’t wish to meet a friendlier nation.

The bus drivers deserve a special mention, after being handed a scrap of paper with a destination, they always remembered to tell us when to get off and advised us of the next bus to catch or in what direction to head. Sometimes that is after a white knuckle ride. Some of the drivers seem to think they are the new Ayrton Senna.

Shortly after arriving in Natal 6 of us went out across the bay and us 3 women went walking along the beach. The men after idling around couldn’t see where we had gone so found a beach bar and stopped for a beer.

We had a super walk along the white sand beach without a care in the world. Stopping to take a photo on the way back, we had 3 youths rush up from the side grabbing the camera from me. We were all so caught by surprise but after holding on and even being dragged across the sand they got the camera. I was ready to have a go at grabbing it back when I realized we were facing the barrel of a gun. Suspect it was not a real one but it was not worth finding out. They made off with the camera and a backpack.

This incident shook us all up and we became extremely wary of everyone and everything. Looking back over our time in Brazil it was an unfortunate incident with us being in the wrong place at the time and by far the majority of Brazilian people are very friendly and helpful.
