Hello!

Very interesting, your blog. You have already visited some Portuguese Islands: Açores, Madeira and Porto Santo, I saw the pictures...they are beautiful, don't they?

Where can I find a map like this?

Sorry for my English, I hope you understand...it's the most important.

Antique Sailor writes: After 15 years aboard we have settled on land but I remember nights like you described but we never kept a spinnaker up at night. I kept wondering when you were going to drop it. Hope you enjoy South Africa as much as we did; spent 15 months before heading across to Brazil; the easiest and pleasantest passage of any on any ocean. Bon Voyage, Mary the Antique Sailor

Very nice blog and photos. Is your vessel a fixed keel or a centerboard? And if it is a centerboard what is your draft w/the board down, and board up? Good luck in the race! bigsmile

James & Lorna Wildingcjwilding Friday, August 24, 2007 5:40:13 PM

It's fixed keel, draft is 1.2m (3'11").

Leonardavl_wamp Friday, August 24, 2007 6:47:36 PM

Mega -Cool!!! I had always heard that even the larger cats had a fairly shallow draft. What is your hull made of? If you don't mind me asking? For that shallow a draft I am guessing fiberglass or metal.

James & Lorna Wildingcjwilding Friday, August 24, 2007 8:00:21 PM

It's fibreglass, the model is a Dufour Nautitech 475 if you want to look it up. The spec sheets will give far more detail.

Leonardavl_wamp Friday, August 24, 2007 8:36:51 PM

Thanks, once again Good Luck in the race, everyone at Opera will be pulling for you. yes

Hi James and Lorna
This is life!!!!
I like our blog but more I like our life style.
That is what I am going to do with my girl friend. We finished our BA in psychology and now after two weeks we go to China for 2 months traveling. After that we are going to the Caribbean OR the Metiterranian where we are going to buy a yacht(Cheep) to sail for one year.

So we are going to visit your page often wink

I'm ready to start sailing again - I was on board a 72' yawl ( Zorra ) and sailed throughout the Carribean. I lived in St Thomas for 6 years and left the Island about 20 years ago. I'm sure it has changed, including our dive sites.

Good Luck and I'll check back often.

Double Happiness writes: Hi Guys, Been enjoyinging your journey for a while but had to respond now that you are in Southport where our cat is registered (though she has never been there). We live in Hong Kong and have a 55ft Schionning Wilderness (DH)built in south China and finished off in Hong kong - waiting to retire and get away next March/April to the Phils, Malaysia then maybe back up to Japan and across the north Pacific to Seattle. You are probably in Bums Bay near Seaworld on the Spit - we have a condo in one of those high rise buildings (Deepwater Point) across the Broadwater from you. Keep up the good work with the blog and enjoy your voyage - let us know if you will be in Hong Kong. Cheers Paul & Connie

Paul and Connie would love to see pics of your boat. As you can gather from my ride on Bullet_Proof I am rather taken with the Schionning. Want to swop? Marine Stadium is the nicer name for where we were.

Great to read about your adventures though, and look at the pictures... sounds like you've had a fantastic time in Australia. I'm going to do a bit of travelling myself soon, although not quite as stylishly as you - I'm spending a semester studying in Kentucky on an exchange program! Very excited to get out of Grahamstown for a bit and see the states. Sail safe! My love to you both- Chels

Anonymous writes: Hi guys - thanks for you response. Your Catana was my original ideal boat but could not make the $$ work at that time so got the Schionning built - only one heart attack (really) and probably more $$$ later !! Anyway, she is good but not the later series Schionning that you were on in Oz. Jeff draws nice boats but I cannot attach pics of ours - will send separately. You are gone for a couple months....?? Cheers!!

Hi Lorna & James! My son Dylan and I were enthralled by your trip; including the photographs and the detailed descriptions of your globetrotting! My son is 8yo and his dream (along with mine) is to sail wround the world once I retire. He will be about 18 at that point but I am looking forward to and am planning the trip with him as an exercise in what goes into such a trip. We had an airplane and flew quite a bit then entered the world of boating once we bought a houseon the water. We sleep on the boat every weekend but we always spend a few hours a week detailing our proposed trip, the course, the equipment, etc. Anyway, we are so happy that you have taken the time to detail your adventure and we wish you solid winds, deep water, good health and clear skies! From your friends, Dylan (8yo) and Greg
