immigration to the U.S.A.

I have never been out the united States, so this next paper is kind of difficult for me to answer. any input and comments will help me on this one. smile
I have to decide what country I would be from and say whether or not I would immigrate to the U.S. and my reasons why I would do this, what benefit it would have. any comments on this subject are greatly appreciated Gotta do this paper by midnight.

I'm in the UK and there's no way I'd live anywhere in the states apart from Alaska. You guys have way too warm weather (hence Alaska), a mildly psychotic government, too loose gun control laws, and perverts who get tv shows by starting new religions. I could probably cope with that if your country hadn't spawned Paris Hilton. mad *wags finger* Shame on you.

I'm in the UK too, and living in the US actually appeals to me more than living here. The climate doesn't bother me (as there'll be somewhere to suit everybody), and the fact that generally speaking you're allowed to defend yourself (subject to certain variations between the states) without being locked up is a plus. I could even see a policeman more than once a month actually working on something other than paperwork. You've got plenty of problems, but so does everywhere.

I'd shake the finger of shame about Paris Hilton, but I'm painfully aware that we spawned Jade Goody. I'll keep quiet if you will.

I'd blanked that memory. mad

Alex Morgan writes: Hello again, an interesting blog for sure. Somethign very close to my heart. For those who don't know, my girlfriend is from South Carolina and I am from Wales in the UK. I've been tot he states 4 times now and although I do really like it as a place to visit, it has some major problems for me. My girlfriend wanted to move to Wales from the get go but our immegration is even tighter than your own. They refused her entry because of a mistake in visa application and it looks like I will have to stay in SC while it sorted out. There is no where safer in my opinion than the UK. We don't have any poisonous or biting wild animals. We have the strictest gun laws anywhere. I like the layout of our towans and cities, the mix of old and new. We're high tech and ancient at the same tme with ties to both Europe and the Commonwealth. Don't get me wrong tho, I love the States. It's vertianly in my top 5 of world countries. It just bugs me when I hear (a million times!) that America is the best country int he world. From people who've never been anywhere else. Italy, Israel, the Baleric and Canary islands are all wonderful places to live. There is a soft spot in my heart for the States - I like what it says it stands for. It just so rarely does stand fro anything at a high political level.

This is a little late, but I'll give you what I can.

I spent a week in Ireland last year, and, I was so scared by the crowds in Dublin, all the panhandlers and whatnot, that I refuse to go back to the city. I will say, however, that being there made me fully appreciate my own country. Everyone in Ireland, our host families, our tour guides, etc, were all thoroughly impressed with America and, on average, more people than not said that they were dying to go. (Someone even told us that Americans "really know how to party".)

It's a little convoluted, but that's the impression I received. If you're scared of your own country, America wouldn't be a terrible option.

Hope it helps!
