IRL Spam

IRL is an internet acronym for 'In Real Life'. Spam is, of course, unwanted correspondence. Combine the two, and you have what is commonly called 'Junk Mail'.
Normally, junk mail is neither here nor there. I go out to check the mail, and the junk goes in the recycling wheelie bin before I even get back inside.
But one piece of junk mail has earned an upgrade, from simple bin-filler to IRL Spam, due to the sheer persistence of its delivery. At least once a week, one of these is dropped in the box ...
No other piece of junk mail has been received so often, so regularly, for so long. I mean, this has been going on for months! As I said, at least once a week (sometimes more)!
Now, either someone thinks I'm a fat bastard (but I'm not ... it's just wind
), or this place just doesn't give a fuck that they're doing the IRL equivalent of flooding my Inbox!
Seriously! There's laws in this country against spam! Why can't there be laws in this country against junk mail?
In any case, this one, with its (false, I'm sure) promise that it's my 'last chance' (and, presumably, therefore, the last time I'm going to receive this IRL spam, but I have my doubts) to get a 'free gym membership' was the straw that made me bypass the wheelie bin (long enough to scan it). I actually opened it, and here we see that the 'free gym membership' isn't quite as advertised (which is a shock, I know, but try to stay strong) ...
As you can tell from the front of the envelope, it asks if you want a free gym membership. However, when you check inside, you find that you have to buy a gym membership before you get a free one.
Uh ... okay. True. You do, indeed, get a free gym membership.
But you have to pay for one to get it!
So it's not really free at all, then, is it?
And how much does a 'free' gym membership cost? Let's see ... ?
Hmm ... nope. Sorry Lifestyle Health Clubs, Raceview ... I can't afford your 'free' gym membership.
Still ... I suppose blogs posts like this are something to consider the next time you feel like deluging surrounding suburbs with your IRL Spam week after week after week after week ...
