Since joining My Opera back in March he has been active both on Choose Opera and other Opera blogs. With more than 1200 forum posts, it's almost impossible not to notice his dedication for Opera and Web Standards!

He is also one of the most active members on the official Opera Facebook page, sometimes answering before we've had a time to look at the feedback! :eyes:

When not roaming through My Opera or Facebook he tries to learn more about computers to one day become a programmer for Opera Software.

Thanks for the awesome support Daniel! Keep up the good work!

Opera's Halloween Browser

Phantom of the Opera

First of all, well done to the community for answering the call for Halloween speed dial backgrounds with such short notice! After only a few days, there more entrants than I expected, and the end decision was a hard one. There were some truly sinister takes on the theme, and some wonderful artwork, but Jon's favorite of all was Cole Henley's 'Phantom of the Opera II'.

Cole's great use of public domain artwork, colour and textures, along with the subtle use of the new Opera logo, made it a sure winner. Well done to Cole, and indeed to all the entrants. Please keep making those Speed Dial backgrounds and sharing them with the community!

Also kudos ki-to for making the great "IBIS Inspire" skin we based this custom Opera build on! Keep 'em coming!

How to install if you are already using Opera:

If you already have Opera, you need to backup 3 files and rename them in order to get the Halloween experience:

  1. Open menu "Help" » "About Opera".
  2. Find the path to the catalog with user data ("Path" » "Preferences") and copy the address
  3. Close Opera
  4. Open the catalog with user data found above (for Windows: "Start" » "Run" » paste the address you copied before)
  5. Remove or rename the following files:
    • bookmarks.adr
    • speeddial.ini
    • operaprefs.ini
  6. Install the customized version (without removing the previous one)

If you are not an Opera user, simply download and follow the instructions.

New Opera Logo

Opera logo

Last Friday we updated the Opera corporate logo. Our main goal is to present a consistent brand.

This is part of an ongoing design-profile update process. You may still occasionally see the old logo a few place, so if you come across the old Opera logo, it would be great if you let the Web masters know there's a new Opera logo and ask them kindly to follow our guidelines.

Thanks!

He has been a My Opera member since May 2006 and has been active in the Opera community via the forums.

Thanks for the support over the years Martin, and here's too many more!

Hicks' Halloween Challenge

Jon Hicks smoking a pipe

Ghosts, Goblins, Vampires, Zombies, Freaks, Geeks...unite! Halloween is right around the corner. :yikes:

Since Halloween is all about dressing up as your favorite creature, or something more adult, we wanted to see how you dress your Speed Dial.

This week, submit your spookiest, scariest, sexiest, slimiest Speed Dial backgrounds to us for a chance to win a unique prize.

Your Speed Dial background will be judged by none other than Jon Hicks, the man behind the non-scary, super sleek new Opera 10 skin. Of the five finalists, Jon will select one artist to have their masterpiece installed as the new speed dial background in a special Halloween edition of Opera 10 (note from our lawyers; please make sure you have the appropriate licenses to any artwork you use).

If you want your artwork to be approved then the size has to be at least 1600 x 1200 pixels and saved as JPG or PNG (no bitmap... please!).

So get ready, because as of right now Hicks' Halloween Challenge is on! You must submit your entry as a comment in this post by Midnight, Tuesday the 27th. Ghoul luck!
