8 million Opera Mini users – Thank you
Tuesday, 5. December 2006, 15:18:34
I would like to thank everyone in the community for helping us reach a milestone recently.
When we launched Opera Mini, we hoped the world would embrace it. We always believed in the power of a mobile browser, but we couldn't anticipate how eagerly so many millions have welcomed Mini. Ten months have passed since we offered it. More than 8 million people have not only downloaded, but use Opera Mini consistently. We are amazed.
But this isn't a time for me to brag. We accomplished this only because of you. We owe every bit of Mini's success to everyone who's convinced a friend, family member or colleague to try it. Thank you.
Let's not stop here. We need to get the word out to those still stuck browsing the Web on their old-fashioned WAP browsers. In the coming months we'll do more advertising and marketing, but these days Opera Mini's growth is due to the tremendous grassroots support right here in the Opera Community.
Relying on the support of everyone who uses Opera has been the key to our survival since we started this company almost 12 years ago. We would not be where we are today without your help.
Warm regards,
Jon S. von Tetzchner

I'm pleased to see Opera pushing the innovation envelope with Mini. You're not content with the outstanding feat of simply just getting a browser that can run on most of the world's phones, but continue to bring a rich feature to all of us without smartphones.
I'm more excited about the future of Opera on my mobile devices. I'm excited to hear interviews and read quotes about Opera's desire to bridge the gap between the desktop experience and the mobile experience.

That's a good point. There's so many people I've told about it and watched download it onto their mobiles.
Even on random forums and such, people want the application.

There is, however, a couple of things to remark.
-I wonder why the NETWORK TEST FUNCTION has been removed?
-I have activated ANIMATIONS. I suppose it referes to GIF.
So sorry, but nothing animates on my k700i unless I am downloading the GIF to the phones memory first. Was THAT the intention? It works the same way as v.2!
What is CHANNELS found under bookmarks on the START-page? No entry!
Regards, ODJEIDE.

As for WAP vs. Web... I guess the market just needs to catch up with the future of mobile browsing
