Your Wii is lit up

Wii Internet Channel
Since the release of the trial version (Dec. 22nd, 2006) Nintendo and Opera have incorporated user feedback from you into the full version of the Internet Channel to create a faster, more functional and feature-rich Web experience on Wii .

New features introduced in today’s release include:

  • New type of zoom,
  • more scrolling options,
  • increased simplicity and ease-of-use,
  • and the ability to turn the toolbar on or off (see a complete features overview below).

This version of the browser remains a free download until June 30, 2007, and once downloaded is free for the lifetime of the system .

We also got some nifty links for you to check out:

Members and moderators of the N+ group here at My Opera has already begun sharing their thoughts and excitement regarding the Opera-powered Wii Internet Channel. We think you should do the same .

Last, but not least, check out the new Wii Browser portal for Opera.

Hein Tore 12. April 2007, 09:27

Aye, this is highly anticipated, and very much appreciated!

DrLaunch 12. April 2007, 09:41

Congrats, Nintendo Wii owners. I'm so envious of you.
I'll get a Wii this month my self. The Wii browser is the first thing I'm going to download.

You can thank Adobe for not allowing anything more recent than Flash 7 to be used on devices

Anton 12. April 2007, 13:47

The new browser is so much faster and feature rich!

Geoff Girardin 12. April 2007, 13:50

Sounds awesome.

Thomas 12. April 2007, 14:11

I think it's great. Thanks Opera, you all are great.

ABE 12. April 2007, 16:01

Boo, I want more. This update kinda sux what was the delay for? Waste of time. Wii need better compatability.

tinhoy 12. April 2007, 17:50

Updated my Internet Channel...is it still supposed to say "Trial Version" on the Wii Menu page?

Andre' 12. April 2007, 18:19

you was suppose 2 go to wii wares and download the software there. the first update is to update your wii.

Alexei 12. April 2007, 19:11

Ohmigosh! It is truly incredible! Opera + Nintendo + Me = LOVE! (this reply was done in Opera for the Wii  )

Morten 12. April 2007, 19:59

Good job

(However, the scroll arrows are silly. Yes, read about the Nintendo reasoning behind it. Some very few couldn’t figure out how to scroll. But once they get it, they get annoying. Should be a setting that gets rid of them, the arrows  )

Anyway, congrats :hat:

Pierre 12. April 2007, 20:05

Thanks for innovations and great product for gaming-console !
:D
What is the new user-agent, please ?

dr wii 12. April 2007, 21:27

I agree needs better flash player! Wii on tv = me want video capabilities. Typing on wii is not easy.

harleycoleman 12. April 2007, 22:53

when will there be a keyboard

JuanRicardo 13. April 2007, 00:03

I know most of you werent really satisfied but do not worry, the channel can still be updated in the feature and there are many more channels to come.I heard some very good rumors about the Wii having channels such as a TV channel and many others. The Wii is just in its cacoon and the butterfly is still developing so be patient. If you want to be informed of anything related to the Wii,join my groups.

spedsleddriver 13. April 2007, 00:54

it is not much beter than the trial and not much faster they need to figuer out hoa to put arow keys in i want to play BMX ghost on teagames.com

randall 13. April 2007, 05:01

I thank you guys for the work you do, and I have gone to opera for all web related activity. I've completly done away with ie and have far less security isues since the switch. So I, without any doubt, would recomend to anybody they should give it a try.
BUT, Not to look a gift horse in the mouth. I have to say, the flash player is a big let down. I just wonder, and by that I mean. I truly believe that the reason flash 9 is not included, is that wii owners might spend too much time playing free games from yahoo, disney channle, mtv, aol, msn, popcap, the list goes on and on and on.
So what kind of business move would that be for nintendo corp. probably not a very good one money wise. but the customer suffers. this said i am a proud suporter of nintendo and of coarse opra.

I have no proof of this and I could definately be wrong. Im sure I'll here about it if I am.

mattk442001 13. April 2007, 05:20

I'm glad Opera made this browser, especially for free , but the only dissappointment from me is that I wanted some java with the browser. Cmon, who doesn‘t want to play Runescape on their Wii? :D

DrLaunch 13. April 2007, 09:35

Yeah. Java would be great. My online bank uses java for login.
And adobe should make flash 9 for Wii too.

Marcel 13. April 2007, 09:50

I miss tabs

slim38 13. April 2007, 09:53

Lots and lots of fixes and tweaking? Just because it isn't in your face and immediately visible doesn't mean that nothing changed

Tell that to Adobe...

No, the reason is that the latest Flash SDK is version 7:

As I said, it's all in Adobe's hands.

wiiminder.com

To people complaining about missing features from desktop browsers:

Remember that the Wii browser is made for TV browsing and it's made to be so easy to use that even grandma can pick up the remote and use it. This means the browser has to limit its functions and only include absolutely essential browser features. It have to be apparent how to use the browser for people that have never used a desktop browser before.

Matt Cox 13. April 2007, 16:29

I returned home from four days away, and my wii WAS lit up!

How did you know!??

P:

FataL 13. April 2007, 17:34

Just fix cyrillic fonts and than it will be perfect!
Thanks for great browser!

Michael 14. April 2007, 00:07

i was dissapointed with the flash player and no java, it sucks when there is not enough memory to load a page...
also, they really need to do something about the typing, it is so annoying having to scroll all the way to the top of the typing board when replying to a myspace message, it also lags sometimes and takes forever to get from letter to letter.

is there ever going to be a way to save photos and/or videos from internet onto wii?

Haavard 14. April 2007, 10:10

n4lyfe, you did read the comments about Flash and Adobe above, right?

Craig 14. April 2007, 12:22

I think the new versions is superb, compared to the old version, but i do agree with the comments made about the being able to view certain multimedia content. I don't know if this is down to the limitation of the Wii itself, as i am not technically knowledgeable about these things, but maybe it is something which Nintendo and Opera could look at when planning future upgrades. Maybe there could also be closer integration between Opera and the Wii's messaging/email service?

Johnny Game 14. April 2007, 13:39

wii roxx!

chivakong 14. April 2007, 17:04

i give your browser a 7.9 out of ten. Lol i joke Cassamasina.

bobgeldof 14. April 2007, 18:17

Ross 14. April 2007, 20:33

I still cant play runescape on this thing!!!! Wheres Java?!?!

waffle745 14. April 2007, 21:38

will nintedo make a wii game that u can go online with?

Gunnraptor 14. April 2007, 22:16

I was awake the second it was available. I was so excited. I personally like it. It's faster, much more reliable, and I can read on it much better. The only thing, as many of you have said already, is that Adobe would give a higher version of Flash. I'm not saying give us like 9 or 106557 or whatever, just Flash 8 would be great. I wouldn't be playing yahoo games, but just 1 in particular: Dofus... If only Nintendo and Adobe would work together to make my dream of playing Ankama games (It's a company) come to life.
I give the new internet channel a 8.5/10. Good job Nintendo

Phan Trọng Hiếu 15. April 2007, 03:03

very good ! I will wait for it !

Kasey 15. April 2007, 09:29

hey just updated my wii and updated the internet channel and its sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooawesome man Homer: Doh! i think i forgot to put this  and this  lol.

Asrugan 16. April 2007, 02:55

Agreed, nertz to Adobe for the outdated Flash. However, the biggest improvment this could see is keyboard(USB) support.

roblang 16. April 2007, 10:23

Bravo, Nintendo have done it again, I'm sure that in time a lot of the issues here will be resolved. But guys give a guy a break, did you ride your bike first time you got on it.

By the way, all those who wanted to play internet games on the wii go to miniclip.com where it is wii compatible.

ZopSE 16. April 2007, 12:56

5 hours without a crash so far. Much more reliable than the evaluation version.
