Opera Mini 4

Good news, everyone! Opera Mini 4 has hit the street, so make sure to update your phone today and share the good news with your friends!

Opera Mini brings the full Web to almost every mobile phone. It automatically reduces the size of the transferred pages, so Web sites load faster while reducing the cost of surfing. Also, Opera Mini 4 supports Opera Link. Opera Link is a new platform for synchronizing your bookmarks and speed dial across any device that runs an Opera browser - or any browser that can access My Opera.

The Opera Mini team blog has also been updated.

Want to chat and share your thoughts? Then head over to our IRC channel #operamini.

If you want to help spread the word, then digg it.

We also urge you to head over to Dev Opera and read the article written by Chris Mills. A list of new articles are there to help you (as developers and designers) to find your way around developing web sites that give a good user experience in Opera Mini 4.

Well, if I had a mobile phone like the one above I would cerainly try it out. I intend to keep my old mobile phone until it dies. Or is Opera Mini so good it is worth buying a new phone to try it out?

Aux 7. November 2007, 12:10

Very cool release, but still hangs sometimes on Siemenses.

I have Nokia N73 ... Can I use Opera Mini with it ?

zoso 7. November 2007, 14:29

varish: Of course you can! :-D

To check for any other phone, just go to operamini.com, Download, and look for the brand, then the model. The page for N73 is this:

dekaru 7. November 2007, 15:27

Very nice... Only problem is this: I am a user of Opera Mini 4 beta 3. HOW DO I UPGRADE? I went to operamini.com on my phone's browser (my phone is a Nokia N95), and, by the way, I did NOT get the mobile version of the site, but the full one. Anyway, I selected download to my PC (it's what computers have become, isn't it?) and...NOW i have 2 Opera Minis on my phone. The beta version and the full one. Why did the beta 3 know how to upgrade the beta 2 version and the full release doesn't? This is just stupid.

demiphonic 7. November 2007, 15:28

!!! Mik you idiot! ..I'll take a T-shirt instead !!!

EspenAO 7. November 2007, 15:32

EagleMKD 7. November 2007, 16:03

Hey don't ask stupid questions! OM4 is an official release and it's here to replace OM3 not OM3 beta because the app name is different! By the way i'm writing from OM4 LOL!

Direk 7. November 2007, 16:18

Why Opera always do this- makes people happy with their latest browser! Thank you Team Opera.

import2ner 7. November 2007, 16:27

Love it! I'm using the new Opera Mini right now on my phone and it's been fantastic. I love the fact I can sync my bookmarks with Opera on my Mac as well as the faster browsing I have than on my default mobile web browser. Keep up the great work Opera devs! You've created a new Opera fan here in the States.

Holo3D 7. November 2007, 16:35

KYren 7. November 2007, 18:15

It's working very nicely on my 6630.

Hardingtone 7. November 2007, 18:17

Opera mini 4 is just fantastic! I ve got two problems though, opera mini 4 is not loading all the pics as compared to om3 and photo blog is not available. Great work and cheers to the man u team as well as opera mini.

zilti 7. November 2007, 18:24

It's great!
But why can't I take photos with OM4? There's an Photograph-Icon at every Upload-Form, but I can't use it... It's unclickable...

hmsialex 7. November 2007, 18:33

It is quite an excellent browser. However, I wish we were given the option of keeping Opera 3 as well until all bugs with version 4 are resolved. I can't use Operamini 4 properly on my Nokia 6230i unless I select the smallest font. I was able to use medium font with version 3. Now I have to use a magnifying glass to read my mail due to the small font ! Can't something be done about this ?

khadwar_neang_666 7. November 2007, 18:43

Congrats and Happy OM4 birthday

Furie 7. November 2007, 19:26

I don't know about anyone else, but Sony Ericsson users can have Opera Mini 3 and 4 running side by side. The app name for 3 has been changed.

skid94 7. November 2007, 21:28

I got my copy on the phone. So cool. Everyone needs Opera Mini.

bjornte 7. November 2007, 23:18

For us on the Telenor network, using Opera mini is up to 5 times as expensive than "normal" mobile browsers, since the daily max charge for Java app traffic is 5 times higher than for built in apps. Do you know when this will change? Also, shouldn't you warn Telenor users about this?
Other than that, congratulations on the release & thanks for a great product! :-)

Furie 7. November 2007, 23:25

You get charged more for using data applications than you do for your inbuilt browser??? You sooooooooo need a new network dude. To be fair, it's not down to Opera to warn about an unrelated network's dodgy dealings.

StasK_ 8. November 2007, 00:11

Well, it's good. But waht's new in final version from last beta?

qnq_ 8. November 2007, 00:13

was no help

Furie 8. November 2007, 00:35

Stask, the overview mode has been fixed, there's new graphical effects in both modes that make browsing easier, and some more sites work than used to.

theoddbod 8. November 2007, 00:51

Not only that, but I have had not one cookie problem today .

Furie 8. November 2007, 00:52

I wish I'd had the cookie problems everyone else did. I felt left out. awww

theoddbod 8. November 2007, 01:03

I found an odd History thing though (which was probably there before). Visit a few pages, then clear your history. Now press Back repeatedly and watch as the pages reappear, still fully functional, and add themselves to the history again. Not a bug, more of a bizarre effect.

H82typ 8. November 2007, 01:17

Isn't that an alternative feature?

bug is such an ugly word, don't you think?

thegrtwizard 8. November 2007, 01:43

Excellent Job!!!!!

danielcs 8. November 2007, 05:32

Very nice, too bad my phone (Sony-Ericsson T637) can't run it. :frown:
