Opera + Prague = Success

On behalf of Jon and the Opera team in Prague, thank you for everyone who came! up We thoroughly enjoyed meeting all of you. We also enjoyed the Czech beer, but that's another story...

The Mozilla guys who showed up seemed to have a very good time (at least according to their blog). They also tried on some new t-shirts:

firefox guys

converted to opera

Omg... Jon surrounded by Firefox dudes. yikes

Ah... That's better. up

For more pictures, check out Jiri Eischmann's photo album. If anyone else has more picture, then please share 'em as well. cheers

Furthermore, if any of you would consider Opera as an employer check out what we can offer in our brand new Prague office.

Jax translated the conclusion of the post based on his semi-flaky Czec to English:

"Though the Czech branch already is functioning and has its employees (that drank with us on the event), there are still vacant positions. So I'll say - work in a pretty building on Charles' Square and for Opera to boot. It is worth a try, isn't it [link to our jobs page]? The question is if they also take Firefox fans 8-)"

Jiri EischmannSesivany Friday, February 1, 2008 3:33:02 PM

very short translation:
These guys are from CZilla (Czech Mozilla). They write it was a good action and they were surprised that there were so many people. Because when they arranged Firefox meeting in Prague there were far less people despite Firefox has much more users in the Czech republice (my note: Opera has 5% and Firefox 30%). So Opera has propably more loyal fans than Firefox. They write that Mr. Opera (Jon) had to face Firefox evangelists (them) but it was them who changed the colours (see photos). In the end, they write there are still some job positions in Prague Opera office and they will consider it smile

Vaclav Slovacekwessan Friday, February 1, 2008 6:51:28 PM

It was a great time with Opera guys! Thanks them for a good party. They could open like another 10 more offices here.

Jonny Axelssonjax Friday, February 1, 2008 7:30:57 PM

That was my proposal as well. We should open our Prague office more often.

Vaclav Slovacekwessan Friday, February 1, 2008 7:48:57 PM

Hi, jax:

When are you opening an office in Slovenia? It would be great working for Opera.

Trof Friday, February 1, 2008 10:17:58 PM

Yes, it was just great! And definitely worth the six-hour trip wink
And here are Case's bilingual report and photos.

Christopher DaSilvadannii Friday, February 1, 2008 10:23:01 PM

What is Opera? confused

GeekK Friday, February 1, 2008 11:10:06 PM

Great, new office in Czech Republic. up

Hope all employees will have a good time working there, and help Opera to be even more successful!

Czech Republic! heart I wish I could have been there...left

Madiseestlane Saturday, February 2, 2008 11:04:05 AM

Nice comparing pictures bigsmile

So this is the way how Jon tries to get more Opera users.

BTW, any chance that there would be an Opera office in Estonia too in future?

Jonny Axelssonjax Saturday, February 2, 2008 1:43:44 PM

Hey, Klemen and d4n3! What about long-term commute? Austria would all that separates us... And Czech is not so different from Slovenian, even uses the same transcription. Estonia would be further away both in distance and language.

Saeeda.khan Saturday, February 2, 2008 5:31:47 PM

Very nice

Ondřej Kroupasealskej Saturday, February 2, 2008 7:43:47 PM

Danii:
Hidden link?

There was a link on the MyOpera page saying something along "not everything is visible". And when you clicked the link you came to a page that looked like a flyer for this event. Then if you looked at the source, or pressed Ctrl+A you saw a hidden link to a page with an invitation.

Christopher DaSilvadannii Sunday, February 3, 2008 7:29:56 PM

(Thanks for the link, By the way yes)

Christopher DaSilvadannii Monday, February 4, 2008 2:11:16 AM

OH! Thanks a lot NoteMe! yes

Jonny Axelssonjax Monday, February 4, 2008 7:15:41 AM

Ctrl+A (select all text) may have done the trick, though me I used regular A (next anchor), though Spatial Navigation (Shift and arrow keys) would have worked as well or better. If you use keyboard navigation you don't have to see the link, neither do you have to home in the cursor to some tiny or awkwardly located link, Spatial Navigation will do the job for you.

Opera definitely works properly on 100 MB. I have used it on 4 MB, but then the compromises are too big (you will among other things find out why cache is such a great thing).

Øyvind ØstlundNoteMe Monday, February 4, 2008 3:03:19 PM

I agree that spatial navigation is sweet, but in this case you would have lost the rest of the hidden message. You would just see the hidden link. I can't remember the exact markup on the "flyer", but something like this should resemble it quite well. As you see, you will find the link well, but not the hidden message. Doing Ctrl+a would show it to you straight away.

True, and that was exactly what happened. I got to the linked page within seconds of the first one, only later I discovered that there was some text involved. The file is still around (another use for Opera cache, incidentally). Admittedly I only saw the word "invited" flashing by, but by the time you had read the hidden text I would have been busy sending the email to toro. In principle anyway, I was already pre-invited.

Øyvind ØstlundNoteMe Monday, February 4, 2008 7:56:53 PM

I would have had to buy flight tickets and talk to my team manager, and it would be 2009 before I could send Mr Odland a message p

I'll better wait for an office to open in Oslo, ohhh wait.... p

Now there is a new sort of Opera in Prague...and much better the Don Giovanni to boot! Wish I had seen this was going to happen earlier, I would love to have gone!

Vitame vas, Opera!

pL

Jonny Axelssonjax Wednesday, February 6, 2008 6:04:11 AM

It is by far not the same thing but you could have a look at Prague Opera Web Appreciation Society.

Yes, there were plenty of operas in Prague even before we arrived, but I think we should be the only Opera in Charles' Square.

asmaredyunus Thursday, February 7, 2008 1:42:00 PM

What about opening an office here in South East Asia? Opera has very very many fans in this region!

p be cheery no worry mad

Jonny Axelssonjax Thursday, February 7, 2008 3:33:42 PM

At least we have been getting a little closer, with offices in South Asia as well as East Asia. None exactly in the neighbourhood, but still.

asmaredyunus Saturday, February 9, 2008 8:03:23 AM

Thank you Jax. I (but may be wrong) think you have forgotten this region. up
