Wanted: Opera Mini Voice-Overs

opera mini voice-over

So, we're looking for people around the world to be the voices of Mini in our most recent video.

It was well-received and is still being seen every week. We want to republish the same video, but with your own voice-overs in your native language, whether that's Russian, Spanish, Chinese, Polish, etc.

I Want To Translate!

Cool, send us your translated voice-overs (correctly timed to the video) and we'll choose the best ones to publish. The video in different languages will be featured here and on video sharing sites around the Web. If there are multiple voice-overs submitted for any given language, we'll choose our favorite to be featured (one voice-over per language).

Rules and T-Shirts

Everyone who sends in a featured voice-over will receive an Opera t-shirt.

The deadline for this project (to be eligible for a t-shirt) is February 18th.

Submissions have to be sent by email.

In addition to the audio file, please send us your translated script as well. To make things easier, here's the original script in English.

Note: For quality control purposes, we reserve the right not to feature a submitted voice-over, even if it's the only voice-over submitted in a particular language.

Technical Things

16 to 24-bit, 44.1 to 48khz AIF is the best full audio format for universal import into editing programs. These files should be around 25mb for a 3-minute track.

However, an MP3 is a scaled-down version of an audio file and is only about 3-5mb for a 3-minute track. To avoid huge e-mails, please send us MP3s, but keep a copy of your higher quality audio files in case we decide we want to use your voice-over.

I thing I can do it if I have time.

feveran 5. February 2008, 15:47

everyone will receive t-shirt who send him voice record?

Dan Alexandru 5. February 2008, 16:09

No, your voice-over has to be "the best" for your language.

Idan Adar 5. February 2008, 16:52

This is somewhat problematic, because the video is matched in speed to English, and other languages might need to add more words to complete a sentence whereas English needs much less, and so - matching it in some parts is just not realistic...

Soumitram4u. 5. February 2008, 17:05

Excellent idea!

Lawrence Eng 5. February 2008, 20:03

YtseJam:

My colleague Stephanie writes:

"This shouldn't be a problem. The dialog doesn't have to match the scenes exactly and timing can easily be adjusted and synched to the different sequences through audio editing. If it's a bit tight, we'll tighten the pauses. But please try to be as accurate as possible with the timing."

Do your best to convey the original intent of the video, even if that means your voice-over is not a word-for-word literal translation. At least you don't have to worry about synching with lip movements

Mrs. Sudoku 5. February 2008, 21:22

I like it in Russian! :-)

Furie 5. February 2008, 22:53

I take it English has already been done?

Scott Paxton 6. February 2008, 00:39

Great Idea....wish I had thought of it....LOL I will re-record mine version and resend it.

Of course, who ever heard of Rolling Stones in Romania?! :headbang: Unfortunately, the Craigslist reference looks completely irrelevant to me, and can't be avoided (it apears in the video, not just the audio).

Moreover, the script mentions "The Binges" which got cut from the voice-over.

Like, just the West Coast American dialect has been done. Besides, a male voice will sound better :jester:

Remco Lanting 6. February 2008, 19:13

So who will do the lolcat translation?

Lawrence Eng 6. February 2008, 19:29

For the record, Scott Paxton (skid94) gets credit for inspiring us to ask our community members for help with this (I'll make sure you get a t-shirt, Scott). And yes, alternative English voiceovers will be considered.

dantesoft: If you want to change the "Craigslist" mention to something more generic/appropriate, please do so.

Good point about the Binges mention which was cut. That can be left out if you want.

Furie 6. February 2008, 22:17

Ooo, a chance to rewrite the script. Keep your grandmas away from the room when you play my entry. :D

Lawrence Eng 6. February 2008, 23:07

Keep in mind that voice-overs that are close to the original in terms of content are more likely to be featured.

That said, all this enthusiasm makes me think we should create a "write-your-own Opera commercial" contest, where community members submit their scripts and/or storyboards, and we film the best one to distribute online.

Mihajlospb 6. February 2008, 23:58

how can i download it?

Lawrence Eng 7. February 2008, 03:59
