Opera Mini 4.1 beta

opera mini in the sky

We have now released the beta preview of the newest version of Opera Mini. This is version 4.1 and it improves the way it interacts with your phone to make browsing more convenient, more productive and definitely more fun.

Opera Mini is available to download for beta testing now.

If you think this is good, then support us and digg it!

Features and good stuff:

Autocomplete your URLs

Opera Mini will automatically suggest URL completions, making address input easy and intuitive. When typing addresses, Opera Mini 4.1 beta will recognize and suggest completions for you (based on your Bookmarks and browsing history), making the input faster, easier and much more intuitive.

Save pages

On phones with JSR-75, Opera Mini 4.1 beta lets you save pages for offline viewing so you can quickly access and read your content if you're in places where you can’t get network reception. Depending on your phone, you may need to choose a destination folder for storing pages for offline viewing.

Find content in the page

Finding words or phrases on your small screen is now easier (watch the guided tour video how this works). This beta lets you search for text within a Web page so you can get to the information you need quicker than before.

Download and upload files

On phones with JSR-75, you can now upload and download files without being re-routed to your phone’s native browser. Update your blog or upload photos. You can also add attachments easily to web-based email, and download other non media-rich content to your phone.

Also, we know a thing or two about performance. Opera Mini 4.1 features speed improvements and is faster than Opera Mini 4.

Availability and feedback:

Opera Mini 4.1 is a free download. Note that not all features may work on all phones or in all regions (contact your mobile operator to check availabilty of all features on your handset).

We use the feedback you give us to improve our products. Please let us know what you think about Opera Mini 4.1 in our forums.

Cool! But on my SonyEricsson V800 the beta versions don't work. And with the old operamini 3, I didn't realize to upload avatar or anything else as well

Nasir 3. April 2008, 05:40

I have already downloaded and installed in a jiffy on to my Nokia E61 (s 60 3rd edition) and blackberry 8700g. I have always been an Opera Mini fan. The beta seems to be all set to beat its previous versions. Try it guys. It's invaluable. Anybody not being able to dowload, please put your comments in with your device specs. I might as well be able to help. In the meantime, Opera Team - you are great. If I come across any bug, will surely let you know. I use op min almost 9 hours a day, 7 days a week.

JB 3. April 2008, 07:10

the search for a download manager, file explorer cum browser is going to be over. I am looking forward to the option of background, multiple downloads and resume options in the final version. I am very very impressed. Thank you Opera. I am loving it.

Roy 3. April 2008, 07:17

I've found two people who HAVE been able to upload - one with a Sony Ericsson k850i and another with a Nokia E51, so it is possible. I've been able to download with no problems, but with each of the signed versions on my Nokia N70 I'm still getting the 'zero file content' from the upload host.

Diamond NobleFavour Glee 3. April 2008, 07:25

I can upload with my Nokia 6120c. When I made the comment earlier that I couldn't upload, there were problems with Opera, which is why the file sizes were zero... Anyone with a compatible phone should be able to upload by now, although I've had to try it a couple of times to get it to work with some files.

Jingboy 3. April 2008, 08:24

I am not able to download email attachments whereas i can dload from other sites. I get an error fetching file. Anybody got successful downloading a email attachment. ?

Aux 3. April 2008, 08:30

I have Sony Ericsson K530i flashed into W660i.

1. Text search works, just two days ago I really needed it and now I have it! THANKS!
2. Finally Opera Mini is signed!
3. And downloading of files is very welcome! But this feature has several issues: images are still downloaded via internal browser and user can not change filename. Try to download Opera Mini with Opera Mini and you will see why this is an issue.
4. Saving web pages also a great thing to be used on a daily basis - now I can use Opera as a text reader.

So here's a few suggestions:

1. Implement auto-bookmarking inside saved pages, so if one read saved page and quit OM somewhere in the middle, then when opening that same page again OM automatically moves to last read position.
2. Implement reading of simple TXT files (:
3. And make service to translate HTML pages into internal format in which saved pages are stored. It can be a feature in Opera 9.5!

That's all for now. Vikings are THE BEST! THANKS!

Diamond NobleFavour Glee 3. April 2008, 10:22

Robert D. Francisco 3. April 2008, 10:23

Ihsan 3. April 2008, 12:17

Works great! But, still anticipating for the bug hehe.

Hayati Tastan 3. April 2008, 13:11

I ended up with Opera after trying IE and MF. As for the Opera Mini, I'm happy with the improvements at version 4.1 but the deficiency in reading MS-Office docs even PDF files. Regards.

Gusha 3. April 2008, 15:05

One bautiful feature I would love to see in this version of Opera Mini the use of the Accelerometer, which most of todays phone have to rotate your screen when you are browsing, a feature which could be enabled or desable.

Øyvind Østlund 3. April 2008, 16:06

Like *# ?

Hardingtone 3. April 2008, 16:09

I'm using it right now! Saved a card my girlfriend sent to me in my email as a saved page. This version is really much better than 4.0. And it works perfectly well on my nokia N82. Thanks to the opera mini team for the innovative and creativity.

ЌίИΦ VίРΣЯΘ(KingVipero) 4. April 2008, 02:49

what does beta mean???

windi iskandar 4. April 2008, 04:11

 seeep lah...

Aux 4. April 2008, 04:24

@NoteMe: When I tried to download OM 4.1 with OM 4.1 file name of OM 4.1 looked like "opera-mini-blabla.jad?12345" and you can not save files with "?" symbol in their name.

Nasir 4. April 2008, 04:26

Beta means it's not the final release version, and may have some bugs, which the "beta testers" or users like you and me of the beta version should inform the developers, so that they can fix the bugs and release the final version. The beta is, therefore, the pre-release version.

Gusha 4. April 2008, 06:28

Twisting a phone to change screen oriantation is much easier than *#, if you ask me. And not everyone remembers those shortcut keys, i think!

hanny khan 4. April 2008, 09:18

Realy good

Ndabenhle Sosibo 6. April 2008, 09:39

Opera 4.1 is really good! As much as it's not an overhaul of what we have in 4.0 but the performance has improved, and the new features are easy to figure out. The one issue I still don't get right is the Opera Link. Where is the 'host' of the bookmarks, is it the pc version or om 4.0? I tried synchronising but the bookmarks that came were outdated, I had deleted them long ago both on my pc and 4.0!

ravi 6. April 2008, 15:35

i love....it.

ujjwal srivastava 6. April 2008, 16:42
