kestrel beta 2

Speed, security and performance do matter. We've made our browser even faster. The new beta is quicker to start, faster at loading web pages, and better at running your Web applications.

Download Opera 9.5 beta

Digg it!

History Search

Forgot the page where you found that great article, or that funny picture? Opera remembers the actual content of the Web pages you visit. In the address bar, just type one word you remember, and find the page.

Stay safe

Extended Validation certificatesNot all web pages are who they say they are. In Opera 9.5, Fraud Protection is enabled by default and detects and warns you about fraudulent Web sites automatically. Support for Extended Validation certificates (EV) provides added assurance and trust for secure web sites.

E-mail enlightened

Opera's built-in e-mail client, M2, features improved responsiveness. It also retrieves and searches your mail and news feeds even faster than before.

Opera 9.5 features a new and faster version of the browser engine Presto. This adds support for cutting edge Web standards and the upcoming Web developer tools.

cool! cool! cool!

Konrad 25. April 2008, 18:38

Thanks for new build, but with every new build Opera is worse for me ;/
1. I dunno know why You've changed placement of profile folder to "Documents and settings". For me it was ideal when all opera files was in one place.
2. Still in cache4 there is no file names or even extensions.
3. Opera freezes(crashes) sometimes when I close an Tab, want to scroll down(up) not fully loaded page, etc.
4. When scrolling pages Opera can "eat" about 50% of CPU usage (2000MHz x2)

In plus:
1. It's faster I think than last one beta

Build 9945, WindowsXP32bit SP2

Jacek 25. April 2008, 19:56

1. Please keep sigle key shortcuts by default, do not remove shortcuts in general! It was a great feature of Opera to control it from keyboard.
2. Why Ctrl-Shift-M, which opened mail management window, is disabled? No "Mail" option added in "Tools" menu instead. The only way to invoke it is by panels.
3. If master password had been set in previous version, upgrading to 9.50b causes problems: sometimes Opera says the password is wrong, though after restarting accepts it.
4. Though opening pages is faster, I cannot see improvement in time of starting Opera (P4-2.6GHz, 1GB RAM, Win XP Prof)

Theriault Arekkusu 25. April 2008, 20:47

Cool! I'm going download it!

Oh that's great, can with hardware ?hehehe

Drag0n 26. April 2008, 13:33

Hi,
I tried submitting this in the bug wizard. But ye won't be able to reproduce it because it seems to be specific to my location.

I've recently upgraded to this beta 2 release, and am no longer able to load web pages fully behind the proxy server of dcu.ie. Opera fails to load external style sheets and images.

This is a new issue with beta2, Opera 9.27 and 9.5b1 work fine. I'm not able to test it behind other proxy servers at the moment.

I will keep an eye on the latest weekly releases and keep ye posted on whether it starts to work again.

Edit: I forgot to mention its build 1933 on Debian Lenny.

PatttyMetalgirl 26. April 2008, 14:59

Oh no!! I wanted to install this new version individualy and I got wrong and updated my 9.27 :cry::cry:

... Well no matter, this version is very good too!! hehe! Now I'm going to digg this new! see you!!

Fizardi rifai 26. April 2008, 15:54

s0ul_s0ciety 26. April 2008, 18:20

n1 :] opera9.50b2 + ubuntu8.04

Jacek 26. April 2008, 20:13

Good work, but still some bugs (Win XP):
1.
Mail accounts are checked though not designed to be included when checking manually nor automatically. More: after emptying "deleted", messages are removed from the server! This way sitting at home I've erased mail to be picked at work.
2.
Tools -> Delete all private data does not clear history though checkboxes are marked.

What I find great:
1.
Speed increase when browsing mail is noticeable. At any action response is quicker, Opera seems lighter and more powerful
2.
Good behaviour to focus on next tab when current one is closed
3.
Bottom toolbar with zooms. I've added Author/User mode and Print preview and got rid of clicking icon with glasses to invoke view bar

Nico Zandberg 26. April 2008, 22:58

I have the same problem as drag0n. Beta 2 does not download stylesheets from behind proxys. Beta 1 worked fine.

Yeni Setiawan 27. April 2008, 09:35

Report from Zenwalk 5.0 (Linux):
After I clicked the Opera icon, it took some seconds before Opera get running :frown:

Fizardi rifai 27. April 2008, 12:39

Can you attachment like opera 9.50?and i download from items?thank's

Jacek 28. April 2008, 13:47

ERRATA to my previous comment.
Ad. 2.
Today's history seems to be undeleted because immediately after deleting private data, the speeddial connects to webites and they appear in today's history again

Master password (I've written previously about problems) is accepted if you wait a while (few seconds) before entering it. When typed quickly right after the request box appears, it is rejected and Opera crashes.

But another bug:
Synchronizing of Notes works bad. Whole set of notes is duplicated after completing synchronization

Synchronizing of bookmarks also not satisfactory. So far, I've been carrying opera6.adr, contacts.adr and notes.adr between home and work on my pendrive.
In 9.5b2, I synchronized at home, next at work and got confused, randomly duplicated bookmarks

Miladin Miladinoski 28. April 2008, 15:51

Great!!!

ianwood1 28. April 2008, 21:33

Where is the mobile version 9.5?

Konrad 1. May 2008, 07:08

Hello again
About my prewious comment
1. I probably know how to fix it myself (opera:config)
3. Problems caused by Panda 2008

New problem:
In history tab lists are permamently closed, so when i want to open an paeg i need to hurry (if Opera gives me little time, if not I must try once again:P)(hope my words can by understood?)

Winston Ng 1. May 2008, 07:17

Just got Opera 9.5

I was hoping for an update type installer where it would include all of my settings etc...

I'm liking the new additions to the GUI, such as the little Google icon in address bar and Opera Link is fair cool.

Great job :D

trinest 1. May 2008, 12:19

Rand S. Huntzinger 2. May 2008, 15:26

On Solaris/SPARC I've found that using an Adobe Flash plugin newer than 9.0.47 causes the browser to crash (at least 9.0.115 and 9.0.124 do). Other than that things look good.

shgarg 4. May 2008, 15:06

Articles and content in this section of the website are really amazing. From http://www.puneonnet.com, http://www.tamilnaduonnet.com

Abba Shehu 4. May 2008, 16:56

It is cool & faster, but it cant makes my aol to be in mobile view & also it cant upload a picture.

Mark 5. May 2008, 13:54

I like it but have links issues that the previous version does not have. I look forward to the refined full release. I'd like to make a request. I'd like to be able to drag web content directly to Notes as an actual page clipping (fully encoded page (secure though)) that I could later compile the clippings to PDF or other saveable format. Right now the Notes tool is too basic for my needs. Still, I love Opera over any other browser. You guys are doing a great job. I always promote Opera when web topics of conversation come up.

Winston Ng 6. May 2008, 11:33

I'm having trouble with a POP email account,
it gets frozen trying to fetch some of the messages.

Although, I've set it up with another POP account from the same server and that works fine....

The webmail for the broken account works though, so I really have no idea whats going on, heh

feryz 6. May 2008, 14:14

daxonmacs 8. May 2008, 17:06

Tran Thanh Trung 9. May 2008, 01:45

Winston Ng 9. May 2008, 07:34

I also noticed Ctrl+H goes to history rather than hide opera.

Just discovered the "Open With" context menu added in transfer window :D

I have been using Opera for a long time now and just downloaded and installed this Beta version. However, I didn't realise that I would lose all my settings including bookmarks, panels and speed dial settings. Is there anyway I can get those back? With thanks for any assistance.

What is your os?
In mac : /user/library/preferences/opera/
there copy bookmarks to /user/library/preferences/opera beta

the same for passwords etc

On windows no clue, for linux neither though I suspect it to be in /user/preferences

masterofopera 12. May 2008, 00:56

Still using 950 beta2, looking forward to the Stable release.
