Andrew: we have lots of aussies here already. Summer is just fine, winter might be on the cold side, but Oslo is normally generally warmer than most other places in Norway:

If this was MS based development I'd consider it!

I would be like a fish out of water moving from C# to Perl!

By fritter, # 22. May 2008, 19:59:27

avatar
I'm not sure a good candidate really needs "strong Perl skills",
or that really huge experience, provided that one is willing to learn,
from himself and from others.

I think "the ideal guy":

- knows how to work in a team (think "we", not "me")
- strives for top quality (yes, I'm afraid that includes documentation
- knows computational complexity of quicksort in the worst case.
Kidding

Some corollaries:

- It's scary to see how many talented people aren't really talented because they don't document what they do.
- Yes, sure, if you know SQL it's better.

If you want to send your CVs, ok. But I suggest you send or show us cool applications and/or demos you built... (hint!)

I have no degree in CS! :'(

By danitro, # 27. May 2008, 04:43:41

Every developer job I've had specified that you needed a degree and I don't have one. If Opera are the same - you'll just need to prove beyond reasonable doubt that you have enough commercial experience to cover this fact.

By fritter, # 27. May 2008, 18:45:58

avatar
Will Opera accept a person without degree but having abilities (or even enough experiences)?

By sandalian, # 27. May 2008, 19:12:55

avatar
If you are planning on applying without a degree - make sure you really do know how to code in PERL. I don't know the level of developer Opera are looking for but if you don't have a degree I'd say you'd need at least 2 years experience actually working as a developer for another company writing PERL.

By fritter, # 28. May 2008, 14:38:39

avatar
probably....
*sigh*

By Kraid, # 28. May 2008, 17:08:44

Then I will wait for Opera opening job for PHP developer one day :D
