Opera on Tour in South Africa

Have you ever wanted to meet Opera in person or hear the latest news on the Web from people leading the industry? Well, if you’re in South Africa then we might be coming to a town near you! In August, Opera Software will be visiting Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria and Johannesburg for a university tour and series of community meet-ups.

University Tour

Member of the week

Opera Software will be visiting twelve countries this year on university tours, and South Africa is first up! We will be visiting the following universities, providing seminars on the history and future of the Web, the browser industry, Web standards and mobile Web browsing.

  • University of Western Cape: Monday 18 August, 13:00
  • Cape Peninsula University of Technology: Tuesday 19 August, 9:30
  • Stellenbosch University: Tuesday 19 August, 13:00
  • University of Cape Town: Wednesday 20 August, 13:00
  • University of KwaZulu-Natal: Thursday 21 August, 12:15
  • Durban University of Technology: Friday 22 August, 11:00
  • University of Johannesburg: Monday 25 August, 12:45
  • University of Pretoria: Tuesday 26 August, 11:30
  • Vaal University of Technology: Wednesday 27 August, 12:00

At most universities there will be light snacks and a free gift for those who attend. If you would like to register to attend the seminar at your university, email education@opera.com with your university in the subject line.

The university tours are part of the larger Opera Education outreach program for universities, schools, and other education institutions. Check out the full program at www.opera.com/education.

Community Meet-ups

Come and have a drink with Opera Software! Opera will be holding informal social gatherings in each city for our community of Opera enthusiasts. Let us know on zlauder@opera.com if you will come and join us!

  • Cape Town: Tuesday 19 August, 5:00pm (News Café Greenpoint - Exhibition Building, Main Road)
  • Durban: Thursday 21 August, 5:00pm (News Café Suncoast - Sun Coast Casino, Sun Coast Boulevard)
  • Johannesburg: Monday 25 August, 5:00pm (News Café Sandton - Cnr Gwen Lane & Fredman Drive)
  • Pretoria: Tuesday 26 August, 5:00pm (News Café Hatfield - Hatfield Square, Burnette Street)

We will have a small bar tab at each community meet-up for those who get their early. And don't forget that News Café has a smart casual dress code.
