Blog Action Day 2008

Blog Action Day

Blog Action Day is an annual nonprofit event that aims to unite the world’s bloggers, podcasters and videocasters, to post about the same issue on the same day. Their aim is to raise awareness and trigger a global discussion. This year the theme is Poverty.

Like last year, we support this cause. Read more about My Opera's involvement.

Anyway, the day is finally here and it's already rockin! Thousands of posts have been going up in the last few hours as countries wake up to Blog Action Day. We'd like you to write a blog post (look here for recources) and tag it "blog action day 08"! When you're done, please leave a link in this blog post to your entry.

ombolan 15. October 2008, 15:05

thank You Bea, i'm a lucky man since then.
just posted my personal blog action day: what i have already done

i think this is the only way
to help the "normal" people
to have a little chance.
personal deployment.

but, ok, i'm over 55 and a bit over and out.
i have time for such an "adventure".
yougerones have to follow the carrier
to do the same maybe one day.

this people gave "me" a new home.
they don't like to hear "poverty".
if You don't believe, ask them.
they are in a strange situation
we "civilised" people don't understand on the first glance.
they have problems and they want to solve the problems.
like any other continent or country
by "themselves".

that's what "I" understood.

"i'm over 55 and a bit over and out.

you know what? there is no age to start good actions. yesterday I saw in a program a woman (20 years old, I guess) who went to Ghana and started to teach children there. She passed 2 years, so she just got back to USA and saw that she was not happy. Now, she was planning to move to Kenya to do the same work there and pass another time. Isn't it great? Someone so young and such a good person worried to help people? Of course, she could help in any place she could. It's the same to us. We just have to want it.

I'm glad for your experience!

ombolan 15. October 2008, 15:37

yes, and a bit money.
me, i had this time and money with 49.
others are faster,
because they don't spend so much in their youth
for NOTHING.

me, i don't think much about my life over 65 (retirement).
i will stay in africa then or God knows.
but life is today.

what i did was well planed over years
because i knew it would change my life deeply.
but for the people it looked like action of a fool
like i decided to go there from one day to another
without knowing nothing.

it can be dangerous.
because a white man is a rich man
and there are black men
which think, it's ok to destroy him for some pennies.
thank God, there are not so many (in the Sénégal).
and they have good law enforcement forces.

on the country side it runs without this.
there are the grandfathers controlling the domestic harmony.

b_laudanum 15. October 2008, 15:46

yeah, I know what you mean... but fortunately you're fine! And here to share your experience!

Hey, in Senegal do you speak portuguese?

flotsam22 15. October 2008, 15:50

ombolan 15. October 2008, 15:52

no, "capo verde" only. the Sénégal speaks french (sometimes).
but they have portuguese influenced music (not only).
and TAP Portugal has special prices and conditions for the Sénégalese.

triyin 15. October 2008, 16:01

flotsam your blog is coming up with a 404 error not found????

b_laudanum 15. October 2008, 16:22

oh.. we have a singer here that always tell about Senegal. Many of ours ancestors are from Senegal too.

pays de la teranga, the country of hospitality.
for me it's like a black whole
eating me up slowly.
a good way out.

Its good to hear positive feedback about Africa. I am from South Africa and it makes me so happy to hear positivity instead of the usual doom and gloom :-)

How meny roads must a man walk down
before they can call him a man
how meny years could a man survive
before you can lend him a hand
how meny times must the oil company jack up the price
before they could lend us a hand
the answer my friend is blown in the wind
the answer is blown in the wind
