Opera Mini on the PSP

Sony's PSP is a popular device, used by many to play games, watch videos and maybe even surf the Web. Well, you can now do the latter one using Opera Mini thanks to a forum post in the QuickJump network.

What you will need is:

Feedback from PSP users are that they find the Opera Mini browser much better. It's faster than the embedded microbrowser. Opera Mini also displays JavaScript enabled pages much better. You can even use Web based services (such as Meebo) on it.

Once you have the PSPKVM and Opera Mini files onto your PSP, launch PSPKVM and locate the Opera Mini files. Open them with "O". They will be installed as an application (accessible from your main menu).

The next step is crucial. Do not launch Opera Mini, yet. It will not work. You have to go "Network setup" and make sure you are connected to a network. After that, go to Opera Mini, but first hit "Start". Select preferred device and click on "O". Make sure that J2ME Standard (480x272) is selected. Save your preferences and launch Opera Mini.

Have fun and enjoy your new browser on the PSP.

yuku 22. October 2008, 16:10

You miss a thing. You need to have a custom firmware to be able to run PSPKVM and other great homebrew applications.

matheusfernal 22. October 2008, 17:24

By the way, its time to update the DS Browser.

p01 22. October 2008, 19:23

matheusfernal: I've only seen videos of Opera on DS, but the DSi version is impressive ... and it's built in.

EagleMKD 22. October 2008, 20:33

Though I don't have a PSP this is a very good thing, because Opera mini makes the webpages smaller and faster to load!

"No, I'm browsing."

Maybe later, opera will be installed on a watch.
It will be very nice.

Opera is not only multi platform but also multi devices.
Keep a good work.

Furie 23. October 2008, 13:47

I'm already a user of Opera on my PSP!
It is waaayy better than the embedded browser..

idiologic 23. October 2008, 19:45

Oh, awesome. I didn't know this. I won a PSP through some Sony competition and used one before. I didn't really care for it since I already had a DS. One of my biggest gripes was the web browser on the PSP. Didn't like it at all.

Anyway I used my PSP like 3 times and pushed it off (as being borrowed) on a friend who likes the thing. Who knew?

Now if I can only get Opera installed on my iPhone or iPod Touch, I'll be a happy camper.
