thanks for doing this. hopefully we'll get this chance again sooner than in 15 years from now on

Bluetoth 29. April 2009, 09:33

I thaught this Q&A was a chance to find out more than we already know. At least a little sneak peak, or something...
Tsk tsk tsk

neofit 29. April 2009, 09:34

Thanks, Jon and Espen!
It was interesting for me to read all answers.
Good work!

@WayOfTheBastard - Yeah, I knew everything. I think most of the people know what I'm talking about,
-the logo has to be either changed/tweaked, from what I remember it's a very low res, on Vista it looks like crap if you have bigger icons
-at userjs, not really my area, won't comment
- in Opera 10, which was really more of a, let's call it "problem" p: , I was expecting more to be unveiled, with the 15th anniversary, rather than the Opera Turbo functionality, which was announced before. On the other hand I do understand that he want's to create than excitement for the no.10 release.
Dont' get me wrong, I use Opera in a day-to-day basis, "converted" other 10 close friends to be Opera users (constant users), and made my boss use it too p: . So I amd as others, a Opera lover
Even wanted to make video tutorials for romanians to see why to use Opera, but things really piled up in these last months, the 12th grade, some contests, work, theatre, and also fun, it's not all that dark ;-)

53north 29. April 2009, 10:52

I think more functionality could be included with operamini through typing config: or debug: into the address bar rather than cluttering the settings page in the future. A tasteful/useful start up advertisement I wouldn't mind, like seen on some games-
coloured font, sound and lights/vibrate could be made use of on most phones...

tomassplatch 29. April 2009, 10:53

see the picture with release dates on the board...

There were some talks on the forum, more amongst the users;

Opera Turbo wasn't "unveiled", he mentioned it as something that was new in 10.

Right, I see you do not understand any kind of sarcasm that I made, and why you have the username you have ...
I have the same right as you to comment, give my oppinion regards to what product/s I use. The difference is that I'm not the, ahem, bottom kisser here.

Hades32 29. April 2009, 17:49

OPERA 10

soumitram4u 29. April 2009, 18:56

Good work!

Indyan 29. April 2009, 19:25

I am a bit disappointed with the answers. He barely answered any of the questions. A bit too diplomatic.
10th birthday celeb was better (howcome ridiculing M$ was pure win :D)

AhmedGhanem 29. April 2009, 19:37

Oh no! isn't there anything better to keep me up at night?
Guys you totally slammed me with that board behind Jon!

:frown: I won't be able to sleep tonight!

Nerak 29. April 2009, 20:51

:o: He's dreamy.

yokey 29. April 2009, 21:00

I happy for answers and Jon's of the future of the Opera love.

markusd 29. April 2009, 21:45

thanks for the answers:D

sandalian 30. April 2009, 01:12

I wish I have X-Ray glasses to see through Jon's head and that poster!

GreyWyvern 30. April 2009, 03:15

It's nice that we could sit down and have a chat with Jon; I am sure he is a very great and intense individual in person. Maybe it's just me though, but I didn't learn anything new from the "answers" listed here. It's like he was afraid to say too much and overdid it on restraint. :worried:

Why so much hate? I never expected secrets, but I expected more than "Oh yes, well, we are definitely working on that. Stay tuned!" (paraphrased)

There were several new details, such as User JS improvements being planned, the icon will be fixed up, there is a new skin in Opera 10, etc.

Perhaps you didn't, but I knew all of this already.

- User JS distribution and management improvements have been talked about for years, ever since userjs.org ground to a halt.
- Opera Community got a new icon, so of course they are looking at overhauling it for the browser.
- You don't see many major version number releases of Opera that don't get a new skin. The OC announced that they got a new graphic designer on board just for that purpose several weeks ago already.

I've been a loyal Opera user since 2002, so please don't just assume I'm some random critic for whom "nothing is good enough".

samfresco 30. April 2009, 17:33

Thanks Jon!

Thanks Opera!

I Love Opera!flirt

amjollyboy 30. April 2009, 21:20

khadwar_neang_666 1. May 2009, 07:37

didn't gotten the chance to chatting with Jon .... but all Opera Mini Guys and Girls have done a great and wonderful working .... so no needing question to be asked they all have already answered it years back ....

D1sasterp1ece 2. May 2009, 08:47

I want to see the date.

+1

shift9x 2. May 2009, 13:00

good ^^~

AhmedGhanem 2. May 2009, 16:18

yeah right we wanna see the date :D

Bluetoth 5. May 2009, 04:47

WayOfTheBastard - just leave it there. If you don't know, just keep it to yourself. I see that logic isn't your stong point either, you are a new Opera user, and I understand your excitement, and you are the bottom (ass) kisser I was talking about earlier.
Like GreyWyvern said, I also don't give random hate critic. You are the new guy here, you should get more informed.
Yes, the questions were't great, but you wouldn't of putted them better yourself, don't worry about that.

WayOfTheBastard: I agree with Bluetoth in so many points and you in only one point, the questions are really lame!

about the new designer, Bluetoth is right they hired Jon Hicks to revamp the skin and the icon, he's the one who made the Firefox icon too, so don't be such a ........ ! I don't know, just check and keep up with the community before dissing others!

Bluetoth 5. May 2009, 08:15

Well I see you are a cretin. No sense in bothering with you, don't want to get a warning or anything. We're all Opera users, but you're "love" just goes like totally overboard.
First of all look at our blogs ... different creation times, different people, places, hobbys, etc.
Let's just leave WayOfTheBastard in his own world with his "trolls"
Jeez :irked:

AhmedGhanem 5. May 2009, 08:44

http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/show.dml/2721248

^^ Oh, really I forgot to add the link in my last post, that's Jon's first post in the Opera Desktop Team blog asking about UI feedback! and there was an article on Jon's personal journal at Hicks Design website that states he was hired by Opera, so please stop being un-observant!

God I mean did you ever try to make sure we're lying or claiming before dissing like that ??? you could have googled it so easily and you'd have found that I'm right.

The announcement in the Desktop Team Blog: http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog/2008/10/09/focus-on-desktop

The announcement on Hicks Design Journal: http://hicksdesign.co.uk/journal/and-now-opera

^^ BTW, just googling "hicks design opera" or "jon hicks opera" gets you the hicks design announcement page as the first result so if you're bewildered with joined sentences you could have just picked the name I throw and joined it with the word "opera" which hardly is a full sentence.

AhmedGhanem 5. May 2009, 09:14

First, I didn't say there'll be any new skin, I said that he was hired to revamp the skin and the icon not create new ones, and yes I expect people who love Opera to keep up with all these news and all these blogs, after all if you love Opera as you claim to you'd be following the Opera Desktop Team blog at least to test new snapshots and help identify bugs and so on.

I don't know why this started at first place but anyway this conversation is closed now at least by me, I explained my POV and provided references, that's all.

tuancute 5. May 2009, 15:47
