My Opera gone bananas!

A whole lot of bananas

It's "patch day" and this means addition of new features, bug fixing and hopefully joy and excitement! We are very excited about this release for a number of reasons: First and foremost, we've made some very important changes to the friends system. You now have a list of pending requests with necessary action buttons.

You can also send your friends e-cards with an updated design! Simply hover a photo you've discovered on My Opera and choose from the new quick links to favorite, share or zoom in. cool

We are also very excited about the return of the affiliate program! We would personally like to thank all the beta testers for contributing with feedback how to improve the program! up If you already have the "Download Opera" button activated on your page you're automatically particiating in the affiliate program and no further actions is needed, but if you're not, get started today!

We will come back with more information about the affiliate program later this week.

You can also read all about the markup changes for this release in our devblog.

What does Ignore do on the Friends page? Ignore the friend request but have no other effect?

There's a new button on the watch list, "Mark as read". Items will only be removed from the watch-list when you click it.

Favourites section of the About page still only shows certain item types.

Ok, 5 minutes of use and that new functionality is already annoying.

Nicolas Mendozanicomen Monday, May 25, 2009 10:09:12 AM

Dacotah: known bug that wasn't prioritized, hopefully will be out soon.

We also have some few other fixes pending, but wanted to get the biggest changes out first.

Esteban Manchado Velázquezzoso Monday, May 25, 2009 11:02:16 AM

@theoddbod: About the "Mark as read", it seemed like the most sensible way to solve several problems we have had in the past with it, including news items "returning from the dead". But I understand that the change can be annoying, at least at first.

Hopefully the current annoyance you're experiencing will go away when you get used to it... But of course it's not set in stone, we're just trying to figure out what's the best way of making a reliable and easy to understand UI for the news!

Serdarteknomobil Monday, May 25, 2009 11:08:04 AM

Thanks Opera Team cheers

Dark FurieFurie Monday, May 25, 2009 11:16:58 AM

Zoso, being able to add a checkmark to items in the watchlist then click to have the checked items marked as read would be a good system to run on top of the earlier watchlist system (where going to an item removes it from the list) and the regular Mark All As Read button. That way users have good control and a fast and smooth system.

This new way seems rather counter-intuitive for my liking and it's a pain in the ass on mobile. Visiting the pages you want to visit, then reloading your watchlist and having to manually mark that you've been there is a major data waster.

It doesnt get better than this. KUDDOS Designers

theoddbod Monday, May 25, 2009 11:44:18 AM

@zoso : I didn't really see any problem with the earlier system when it was first implemented - it seemed to me that the bugs/issues with it (such as posts reappearing, or reading anything other than the bottom post clearing the ones beneath it) appeared later.
And, nearly 2 years after they first vanished, i'm guessing Friends Only posts still don't appear in Subscriptions.

Bad WolfCois Monday, May 25, 2009 12:10:26 PM

Right.. Taking it for a spin then..

Bud McDonnellfammcdon Monday, May 25, 2009 12:14:39 PM

Not really liking everything being centered. Makes some things just look bad and makes the pages longer. Since some pages are already too long for my piece 'o' crap phone, this merely exacerbates the problem.

Lorenzolor74cas Monday, May 25, 2009 12:18:32 PM

No bug this time, good job up

Dark FurieFurie Monday, May 25, 2009 12:18:43 PM

Agreed. The centring seems a little intrusive.

Bad WolfCois Monday, May 25, 2009 12:24:29 PM

I like that the usernames are at top of comments...
The friends thing could've been put somewhere else..

GandRungGandrung Monday, May 25, 2009 12:30:17 PM

Awsome

Espen André ØverdahlEspenAO Monday, May 25, 2009 12:31:12 PM

Furie and fammcdon; What "things" are centered?

Bud McDonnellfammcdon Monday, May 25, 2009 12:37:29 PM

All pages seem to have a type thing applied to them. Everything runs down the middle as opposed to left-justified.

Bad WolfCois Monday, May 25, 2009 12:38:07 PM

Check on Opera Mini Espen..you'll see what they mean..

Dacotah Monday, May 25, 2009 12:45:43 PM

There's a new button on the watch list, "Mark as read". Items will only be removed from the watch-list when you click it.

Thank you. So that means every new post I have to mark it as read to clear my watchlist?

Espen André ØverdahlEspenAO Monday, May 25, 2009 12:47:54 PM

We are looking into how mark as read is working. I feel it's not working as intended atm. If you've read a post, you've read it. No need to mark it then.

I tried to use the quote link and it didn't work.

Hi Espen, thank you. Did you know that you can't get to your about page anymore by clicking the display photo. I didn't have the about tab showing because I liked to just click my display photo. Doesn't work anymore.

Dacotah Monday, May 25, 2009 12:52:49 PM

Thank you nicomen. smile

Espen André ØverdahlEspenAO Monday, May 25, 2009 12:57:25 PM

It seems that comments are marked as read, while blog posts are not.

Bad WolfCois Monday, May 25, 2009 1:00:10 PM

After checking a new post it doesn't disappear from your watchlist when you reload it or go to it again. You have to click the Mark As Read button as Dakotah explained.. Irritating at most but not life threatening p

Mark the words you want to quote, then press the 'quote'-link.
