Integrate Opera better with Aero

Glass-enabled tab bar in Opera

Opera user Rafael Oliveira decided to "hack" Opera and see if he could make Opera integrate better with Windows Vista/7 by making the tab bar glass-enabled. And to his big surprise it actually worked! According to himself it's not a perfect solution, but it does do the trick. Please note that this also removes the title bar.

If you want to try it, check out his tutorial.

Warning: This approach is highly experimental. We have not tested the files and/or methodology to make this work. Use at your own risk.

I think in the opera browser download webpage, they should give the option to download opera with aero skin, so people like me can download it as is without the need to modify it ourselves.

Should be a default, really. All other major browsers are focusing on having their applications as native as possible...

Manu 20. July 2009, 17:22

It's working fine under Windows 7 64bit, but the transparency affects the tab font and when I have background image, it's not very readable.
But really nice implementation! ;-)

PozsonyiMark 20. July 2009, 17:54

Must Be Default

I think this does look very nice, though I really hope that if Opera Software do implement it they don't get rid of the menu bar and replace it with a small bookmarks menu and settings menu next to the address bar like IE, Chrome and Safari have done (and how Mozilla are thinking of doing). Perhaps it would be feasible to put the menu bar in with the aero stuff (and an option to disable it for those who don't want it).
