Opera Unite application of the Week

Document Sync application running

Document Sync allows you to automatically back up the content of a specified directory to a remote computer running Document Courier.

Synchronization can be set to occur automatically whenever you want and can also be performed manually at any time by simply clicking the "Sync" button. Simply specify the receiving Document Courier service URL and its respective password, as well as the folder name which will identify the folder within the Document Courier shared directory where the files will be stored.

We'd like to congratulate mjgrainge on becoming this week's winner! Thanks for creating Opera Unite application and keep up the great work! cheers

Applications of our dreams

There are many applications we would love to see created! Here are a few ideas for future Opera Unite applications:

  • Tree house: Remote control of lights and heating of your backyard tree house! bigeyes
  • Birthday: An application where visitors can leave a birthday greeting for friends! party
  • Cooking Unite: A place to share recipes with comment functionality. Add support to embed photos + videos and I think we got a winner! yes
  • Look what I found: A sandbox where you (and visitors) can drag'n'drop anything cool discovered online such as news articles, YouTube videos, game demos, etc. cool

Develop Opera Unite applications and get rewarded for it!

Every Monday we will announce a new application of the week. The developer is rewarded a gift card equal the value of a Nintendo Wii. All you have to do is create an Opera Unite application and submit it by 10 AM CET any Friday to enter the challenge.

Are you ready for the challenge? Check out the developer resources and get all the details in our "Battle for the best Opera Unite applications" article.

i am keen to try this and compare with ubuntu one service on karmic koala.. let's the user sync tomboy notes (short notes which can be linked/tagged by topic) with any number of pc's. it's a very simple yet useful and fast feature

Synching Tomboy? Huh. Finally.

This file uploader is a promising step, but I keep hoping for progress with widget integration. If you could have a control widget with panels, life would be golden.

Implement more of the uTorrent core as a Unite plugin? Move torrents into Unite and allow apps/widgets/panels to integrate with the browser core?

We could totally put another Freenet up in here, only useful.

Busisiwe Pearl SikhosanaCaladyb Wednesday, December 9, 2009 5:41:43 PM

Its fun too makes life more empty n easier.

Charles SchlossChas4 Wednesday, December 9, 2009 10:02:48 PM

hellsporkDid you know Opera has a built in bittorrent?

Cutting Spoonhellspork Friday, December 11, 2009 11:39:52 PM

I did say "more" of the uTorrent core. An old changelog said the handler should now be "uTorrent compliant". However uTorrent itself has extra features like DHT, whereas Opera may only fall back to PXE. There is room for improvement.

With Unite entering the scene, it would be natural to package a newer port of core uTorrent code into an API for Unite.
