The best gaming experience? A tough question, there have been a few amazing games with great experiences.

I guess one of the most awesome moments was finishing Chrono Trigger (the best video game ever) and then finding out the new option "New Game+". At that time it was like "WOW! This was unexpected but a very cool idea. I hope other games will incorporate something like this in them too."

The game itself was just brilliant, so the game itself was a very great experience, but then it was crowned with that special feature discovery.

Well, until now there haven't been too many games having similar feature in them, making this discovery even more valuable and unique experience for me.

One of my favorite experiences was bonding with my best friend over video games at a cyber cafe. Neither of us had computers good enough to run the games at home, nor was our internet connection fast enough. For one summer we spent countless hours at a cyber cafe, 20 minutes from each of our houses, playing multiple games. Even now, 10 years down the road, I still look back with fond memories of that summer. Gaming has never quite been the same since, there was something special about having your buddy right there with you, virtually and physically.

My best gaming experience was in the year of 1997 when Resident Evil came out for PC. I never was so scared and terrified before. The atmosphere was so thick that you could quasi see it. The mixture of action and adventure with a lot of survival horror was really new for that time and the game was definitely a milestone for an upcoming generation of computer games.

By the way: My first gaming experience was when I got a Gameboy for Christmas with "Super Mario Land 2" and "The Legend Of Zelda: Links Awakening". I played them everyday ^^.

My best gaming experience ever was coming back to my old Warcraft guild again after being away from them for over a year. It reminded me of all the awesome first-kills we did back in the days.

The most awesome kill must have been our Grand Widow Faerlina kill. The first time we ever tried her with no buffs or pots of any kind we got her down with only one death. It's the most amazing teamwork in any game I've ever seen.

Sorry for non WoW people who didn't understand much of this comment smile

I have a great experience with Space Invaders. Despite the game age, it's a good entertainment, fast, without configurations to start play, with captivating characters and one simple objective. You don't need to pass though various game phases, it's only kill some aliens, make points and have fun!

Best game experience?
When I was a child. I was playing warcraft2 like a crazy. My mom won't let me play during night so i was sneaking to the pc room quietly when everybody were sleeping.
One time, it was about 3am and i was kickin' som Orc hordes and i needed to go pee immedietly. I had two choices. Wake up my mum or use nearest window instead. Guess what I did. bigsmile
But hey, thanks to that i was playing warcraft2 till the morning !! Awesome game bigsmile

My best gaming experience would have to be with Planescape: Torment. Torment had some of the best characters and characterisations that I've seen in RPG games not to mention story and story telling.

All of your travel companions had a story to them and the game made you want to discover as much of that story as possible with each one of them. Even characters that didn't travel with you had well written and well told histories and nuances to them that made them all unique and interesting.

The story, oh the story! From the beginning of the game I was caught and hooked into this world and this character that served as a focal point into a whole new universe. You wanted to do every mission and go search in every corner just in case there might be something in there that could tell you more about this person and this world.

To this day, Torment remains one of the few games that I could replay, and it is the only RPG that I ever replayed (many times) and each time I played it, I discovered something new or found some new piece of information.

Wow large question,
so many games, so differents times.

-My first King of Fighter on a real Neo Geo when I was 18.
-The Bishi Bashi Night in geneva in 2000.
-The Final Boss and the Opera in Final Fantasy VI.
-When I've reach 1.750Km/h in Gran turismo 3 (Without any any cheat)
-One pre-beta game make my day too, but I can't say which one (The NDA is still present)
-Xenogear, ho god ... sleep 4h / play 4h / sleep 4h ...

Each 3 years of my life has THE game.

My greatest gaming experience was finishing BioShock2 in one Day. I have never played a game in such a short period. After finishing I was so tired but extremely happy!

Sorry, for my english, but I'm from Germany ;-)

Long time ago, back in the 90's, no Internet kids!

I was playing the best game ever, The Day of the Tentacle, with my cousin. We usually played at her home, then at evening, when my parents came back from work we went home. Then I would phone her to see if she had made any new "discoveries", and then I would just turn on my old 386 and play it, if I found anything knew I would phone her and she would to the same to me.

I will never forget the experience when we managed to defeat the evil purple tentacle! we hugged the next day!

One of my favorite gaming experiences was playing System Shock 2 with a friend of mine back in the days (that was circa 2002 I guess). The game engine was quite faulty, hence it couldn't handle game sync. We were using TeamSpeak while playing and had some interesting dialogues.
"Hey, where are we going now?", I said.
"Let's go to the next bulkhead and leave this area", my friend replied.
He was then dropped by the game (as I mentioned, bugged netcode). After a few seconds he joined the game once again. In the place where died the game spawned all of the equipment he was carrying at the time of the disconnection. The odd thing was he had exactly the same items in his inventory and when i decided to pick some of the stuff up and give it to him some strange situation took place.
"(I am giving my friend his armor) Here, take it. You left it when the game kicked you out"
"What? What's this? I didn't lose any of my equpiment"
"Alright, take this armor, we'll have a spare one"
"What armor?"
"The one i just gave you"
"You gave me a medkit... Or am I making this up?"
"Give it to me, I don't believe it"
He gave me the once-it-was-armor. It was magically transformed into a medkit...

Baldur's Gate II - I was a student and would play BGII all night and then surf all day with mates and chat about our missions last night.

Or getting 17 kills straight kills on my flatmate in one round of BF2

Still my favorite victim smile

I think of my best gaming experiences is playing Rainbow Six Vegas 2 with a few good friends and conquering each terrorist hunt map in a row (including the other downloadable maps we could get for it)the first time we did the map. We had so much fun doing it.

As a Star Wars nerd, my favorite game of all times has to be Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight. This game was not only a worthy sequel to the original Dark Forces, but it has also started a game series of its own (Jedi Knight). What I like about the game is the single player experience (despite a pretty good multiplayer component). You HAVE to play the game with either surround sound or headphones on and make sure your room is somewhat dim so most of your attention is on the screen. If you appreciate Star Wars, you will certainly appreciate the level of immersion this game has (even though the graphics are not amazing anymore, by today's standards). I really felt like I was there, holding a Stormtrooper rifle or wielding a trusty lightsaber, visiting alien planets, encountering different species who are not always friendly wink. What also adds to the Star Wars feel is the various cinematic cut-scenes with real actors that felt like you were watching some sort of deleted scenes from the original Star Wars.

This game is truly amazing, and if you are a Star Wars fan like me and are able to overlook the age of the game, I highly recommend it!

May the force be with you! spock

One of the best gaming experience was when I was young, and playing Mortal Kombat 1 on my PC with my sistem.
You could play MK1 in two players on the same keyboard. It had its standard controls, and it did not let you configure them.
My sister was younger than me, and she wanted to play with the arrow keys and the numpad, or else she wouldn't play with me.
So I was left with the "WSAD" keys for moving (or SXZC, can't remember) and the "UIJNM" keys for fighting. Since I am right handed, I used my right hand on "WSAD" and my left hand on "UIJNM". I kept my hands crossed, the left one over the right, and that's how I learned playing MK. Even as I got the older versions, which have customizable keys, I still used (and still to this day use those keys), keeping my hands crossed on the keyboard.
People who see me play MK like that say it's weird. But that's the way I like it.
It was fun then, and it's fun now, and I still kick ass at MK bigsmile

The best games I've ever played was Crusaders of Might and Magic. The game was a bit older and I played the game on 2002. The game was awesome considering the time. You will have to play as a crusader. you'll travel through glaciers and catacombs. There were levels like eastern and western strongholds. There were great swords armors and mana. You could buy weapons. And there were intelligent enemies. Overall, the game was 10/10. A list of few more awesome games I've played:

1.Half Life 2 series
2.Assassin's Creed
3.Army Men
4.Hitman series
5.Tomb Rider

In 2000 when i was 11, i raced with all cars in same tracks in "need for speed 2" to compete car's performance. i recorded lap times, max. speed and 0-100 km/h timings. then, i create a table, developed a special formule for test. performance=max. speed- lap time/0-100 kmh time bigsmile so, "mclaren f1 lm" was winner,if "fzr 2000" unreal bigsmile also i had played all day to complete competition.

I've had, during the years, a few favorite games I played endlessly. They were Carmageddon I & II (III was really too crap), Aliens vs Predator II, Soldier of Fortune II, Trackmania Nations, and now Battlefield Heroes.
Of those highly favorited games, the prominent one is obiously Aliens vs Predator II.
I remember, as a corporate solider, the distinctive noise of the minigun spinning, only waiting for one of those creepy aliens to show its mouth.
I remember, as a colonial marine, the taste of fear in my mouth while wandering in those dark corridors with for sole companion the noise of my move detector freaking me out due to incoming aliens.
I even remember, as an alien, the pure joice of eating one of these lightbulbs pink heads of colonial marine after having stay hidden below the roof of that same dark corridor.
But what I remember with the greatest pleasure is the feel of the hunt in my green blood, when my disk clipped heads that I wore as trophies, when my spear-gun nails these heads on walls, or even when I unghosted just in front of one of those stupid marines just to slice them ! Oh, the joice of it.

Obviously, all that was during night-time, when I was 25.

And what I remember with the greatest fear was the sshadows around my computer screen. Those shadows that could do nothing but hide aliens, or predators ...

Thinking about it raises that fearful feeling in me, even now ...

My best game experience was not too far ago.. it was 3 weeks ago!

In October 2009, me and my friends Yazan and Raed, started ordering our new dream machines, three very high-end PCs, and we have done ordering them in November.. 4 weeks ago, all of the 3 PCs were ready for building.. so we built them part by part and that took us 10 hours to finish!!

Three weeks ago, each of us brought his PC and we gathered in my apartment; and we started playing our favorite games.. starting with
Call of Duty 4 and Left 4 Dead 2 and other FPS games and some soccer.. of course we play those games a lot with our old machines but it's different with the new ones, and of course we have our own CoD4 clan and we are planning to extend it to Bad Company 2..

That was the first time i play with a gaming mouse!! and a gaming PC, so at first it was difficult to get used to the new mouse, then few hours later i was like a flying monkey!! shooting and pwning all!! that day it was the first time for me that i get such a high score in Call of Duty 4: 140 kills with 67 deaths!! another great experience for me was when i finished Modern Warfare 2 with the Veteran difficulty!! that was a huge challenge to me..

Thank you Opera for giving us this great chance.. Best Team!

Wim du Clouwimduc Thursday, March 4, 2010 3:40:45 PM

Diablo 2, such an awesome game people!!!
You run and Hack and Slash monsters, and then level up.

My best gaming experience was when I found the Secret Cow Level. It gets too mental running away from all those killer cows who are trying to smash you up!!! yikes

jacques malchancejacquesmalchance Thursday, March 4, 2010 3:43:57 PM

such a tough choice! I've been playing games for quite some time, but I think I can narrow it down to several choices:

Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and Metroid II for the Gameboy - it took me ages to beat them and I was so happy when I did that I started playing them over and over again - and then again on the Super Gameboy thing for the SNES...and again on the Gameboy Colour

Following that, every reincarnation of those series blew me away and I still play them as often as possible in 2D, 3D and on the road!

DrillSarge Thursday, March 4, 2010 3:46:52 PM

I remember the time of Quake 3 Arena release.
Was blown away by the simplicity and high speed of this game. It was like Kung Fu in a FPS Game.
We played with our choppy rigs and 56k Modems all day long. I dont't know what it was but I couldn't stop it.
Afte a couple of weeks (!) intense playing I thought I was good or something, but playing a match
with some kind of "professional players" ended up in a complete nightmare. You look at those guys with all their rocket jumps,
which fit perfectly into the map. You spawn - you're dead. Normally I would be frustrated and played another game but this wasn't the case.
Please don't remind me how much money I spent on my Internet Connection (56k modems - time based), how often I missed something and so.
Completely addicted. But I was getting better. With couple of my friends we formed a clan and had LAN Partys.
From there it transformed from work to fun play. There is nothing better to shout a "Got You!" through the room to the guy you just fragged.
If you ask me, whats so special about Quake 3 Arena - I don't know. Maybe the perfect balance, the maps, the community...I don't know.
And tody it is back! I felt like a little kid when Quake Live Open Beta opened - back in good old times. and nothing has changed...

My best experience was with Battlefiel 2, wow, I felt like a real soldier in a war, being able to fly fighter jets, helicopters, boats, jeeps and tanks, was several hours seeking to improve my performance goals, struggling against the enemy soldiers, seeking the sovereignty of my country, and best of all, you know that after a full day of fighting and wars, would be completely safe at home after turning off the computer and knowing that at least for that moment, I was the biggest war hero.

Ps. I am not good in English, told with the help of plug-in for Opera Translate this my best gaming experience. whistle

Best gaming experience?

Fallout 3! hours and hours and days and days and weeks and weeks of playing without getting close to exploring the full map/finding all the cities, hideouts and places....wonderful atmosphere, good difficulty setting, tons of quests, super add-ons...

2 very little negative aspects were the limited diversity in the radio shows and the possibility to always choose dialog option 1.) for being friendly.

One of my best gaming experiences ...

Well my best recent gaming experience was Napoleon Total War in multiplayer mode.

However Total War was genius itself with its round based gameplay. But the multiplayer mode added in Napoleon just hit me.

Well i started playing last saturday, although i should have learned for some exams. My friend took russia and i played as the UK. As you could image, our goal was to dominate whole europe together. Actually Prussia, Austria and Turkey were easy to overtake, together, so we thought it wouldnt be such a hard deal to conquer whole europe ... BUT we forgot about france with its leader Napoleon.
Our game took already 11 hours but the French still wouldnt wanna get defeatet. Napoleon pwned us in EVERY single battle, no matter how huge our armys were. By then there were only 4 nations left, Me(UK), my friend(Russia) nad France which was allied with Spain. And those 2 Nations drove us back on the countryside up to Budapest, as on the sea.
We were pretty desperate ...
So we got up with the idea of "kamikaze" atacking paris ... bigsmile So we took our left ship formed 2 big armys at our military bases in denmark and london and rushed paris in less then 5 rounds.
Anyway the "Battle for Paris" took 40 Minutes and we luckily won. And after we did that hit into the "heart" of france we did the rest of them devil In whole the Game took about 16hours which passed rapidly ... LOL

However it was awesome ... and it would be even more awesome if i won a copy of Battlefied BC2 xDD

My best gaming experience..

The old LAN-parties with my friends are definitely on the top of the list here. There are so many good moments!

One that comes to mind right now is an epic Age of Empires 2 match. It lasted so long we had to take lunch brakes mid-game! The match naturally occurred at night time, but with enough frozen pizza and coke, human beings can do pretty well even without sleep.
When the game finally came to an end, after numerous epic battles - we were amazed when we checked the stats screen. Time played was over six hours! That's a lot! Five people dedicated six hours in their life to one match! That's amazing right?!

Want to know what's even better? I won the match!

I have numerous gaming experiences; nearly all of them revolve around Super Nintendo games; and one in particular stands out above the rest. The best experience with gaming I've ever had was when I saved and scratched my money together to buy Final Fantasy VI (sold as III). I wasn't quite 11 years old then, and I did petty work for my father so I could earn enough money to buy the game. I can remember that day like it was yesterday, walking into Toys R' Us and buying that game. The second I got home I called my friend Chris for him to come over to see the new game I bought. We played that game together every Saturday and Sunday for months on end. He would stay over at my house on Saturday while I spent time at his on Sunday. We played the game so much that my mother imposed a rule that we had to eat lunch away from the television as we would disregard our food for extra minutes of gaming. I've played the game so many times since then I can probably beat it in my sleep. It cemented my interest in Final Fantasy games, and not a single Final Fantasy game before or since has lived up to it.

In fact most of my best memories playing video games was playing console RPGs with my friend Chris. We had an equally pleasant time playing through Secret of Mana, Breath of Fire, and Breath of Fire II. Breath of Fire II was a game neither one of us owned as we couldn't find a store nearby which carried it. We would rent that game from Alfalfa Video (later changed to Blockbuster), fighting each other over who got the game next -- so much in fact each of our parents literally formed a treaty establishing that we would take turns renting the game. Chris never played Chrono Trigger with me although I consider it every bit Final Fantasy VI's equal. I'm unsure why. He borrowed my game years later to play it.

I had many experiences with computer games, especially Monkey Island, Out of this World, Warcraft II, Syndicate, StarCraft, and Unreal Tournament. Despite my choice of nickname here I spent infinitely more time in front of a computer playing StarCraft than I did WarCraft II.

Michael WolfLightwolf Thursday, March 4, 2010 4:12:26 PM

Well, except for my very first stint at Elite (which just blew me away).

Playing straight through a weekend to complete Starglider 2 ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starglider_2 )

Hm, another one: Playing one of the Super Mario games with a mate on the SNES for hours. After that we went out for a bit of dance and drink. I vividly remember the flashes of Super Mario coming back while on the dance floor. Very odd and trippy (and no, no illegal substances involved either).

Yeah, I'm an old fart, but I still like to spend a few hours in a decent game...

Martin Stranger JørgensenMarthj Thursday, March 4, 2010 4:17:43 PM

My best experience was Lost Odyssey on xbox 360. The game a brilliant turn-based rpg with an amazing story of a few people with eternal lives made by the creator of the final fantasy-games. The game starts with the main character Kaim who lost thousand years of memory and later you meet other people who also have eternal lives and their stories are all gripping. The game was a 4-disc, fresh breath from other RPGs made for 11-year olds. But what really struck me was that trough the game Kaim recovers parts of his memories which are kind of short-stories players can choose to read. Truly amazing.

My first and best gaming experience ever was playing Black & White 1 from Lionhead studios on PC platform. I enjoyed playing a "good God" so much that when i woke up the first thing i was thinking was B&W bigsmile. Training my creature was my favorite activity. I shared emotions with my people that worships me which was killed by evil enemy God named Nemesis. I wanted revenge ! I remember that isle number 4 was hardest part of game and it takes me many time to learn how to win against all odds that Nemesis sent on me. When i finished the game i was sad that is ending and i had a goose skin on my hand because of epic ending scenario bigsmile.

P.S. Sorry for my English, i hope you understand me p

Don CarlosSolid004 Thursday, March 4, 2010 4:21:17 PM

Time to get melancholy and relate with heart. Sorry for my bad english, normally I do not like to write but sharing the experiences I felt with FF VII made me do it smile

1) [PSX] Final Fantasy VII. The best JRPG ever created. And it's from 1997!! The songs... the graphics, the STORY, the CHARACTERS. I finished it 3 times at least. And I bought it original in 2009 only to have it as a collection. Epic parts and personal opinion below.

- When you need to dress as a girl to save Tifa, who was kidnaped.

WOOW!!! i didn't expect that from a game. This made me feel like this was an unique JRPG.

- When RED XIII discovers that his father was NOT a coward and he alone saved Cosmo Canyon. A HERO. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnuyl4dDBIs

Every time I see it I drop tears of emotions..

- Aerith been killed by Sephiroth. He IS the baddest antagonist of all times.

So sad an epic.... but is worth the wait to see Cloud using Omnislash on him, on the last fight. Who didn't want to be Cloud on that part to slash Sephiroth? bigsmile

2) [PC] Psychonauts. This game made me sense the feeling that only good old games can make. When you travel from mind to mind. EVERY ONE IS DIFFERENT, you feel like you're in a GIANT WOLRD on every one. The shame is that I paid $2 for this game on a Steam offer sad

As you can see, FF VII is so far my favourite game. I would share more of my best gaming experiences to you but I think that if I mention them of every game I will write below, you guys will get bored p

Chrono Cross, Chrono Trigger, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Mana, Legend of Legaia, Driver 1, Pepsiman, 3X Xtreme, FF VIII & IX, Dark Cloud 2, Xenogears, Digimon 1, Crash Team Racing, Crash Bandicoot 1 & 3, Chocobo Racing, Resident Evil 2 & 3, The Bouncer, Beyond Good & Evil, S.T.A.L.K.E.R Series, Zeno Clash, The Witcher, Half Life Series.

Greetings from Argentina. And thanks Opera Desktop Team for this opportunity.

Game: Call of Duty
Map: Neuville
Year: 2004

This was a 5 vs 5 clan match. It was the last round. I don't remember the score but both teams had the same score, so this round would determine who would win.
I was alone against 3, i was surrounded in an small building with two entrances. First one of them came and i took him out. Then the two left stormed in and i took them out as well bigsmile

Among the fondest memories of my youth are playing Super Nintendo RPGs with a friend from middle school. We killed weekends at his house playing Earthbound, Chrono Trigger, and Super Mario RPG. We'd high-five whenever we beat a boss in the former, and mirror Mario's dance when he got a star in the latter. His mother would order pizza for us (Little Caesar's--the good kind back then) and we'd binge on it and play games all day.

Another interesting gaming story is far more recent. I was at a LAN party in Pittsburgh in August a few years ago. During a break in the action of the party, I started an online chat with a girl I'd met a few months earlier. We ended up chatting through the night, complete with 15-20 minute breaks for me to go compete in tournaments. The greatest parts of the this were that 1.) we kept the convo going just as interesting and lively when I returned from one of the aforementioned breaks, 2.) she was tolerant of my gaming talk and occasional gloating or moaning about the outcome of a match, 3.) by the end of the discussion--when she had to go to sleep because she was leaving for college the next day--we'd set up a date (my first real date in several months, her first in more than a year). We met up, fell in love, and we've been dating since.

My best gaming memories and experiences must have been playing games together with my cousin on the Pentium 386 when I was about 10 years old. Back then we used to play first person shooters such as Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, and Rise Of The Triad together. We only had one computer at the time, and these games didn't allow split-screen coop modes or anything, so we devised an alternative coop mode: one person got control of the arrow keys to move, and the other person was in charge of the gun. Ofcourse, in those days the shooters did't support looking around with the mouse, so the person in control of the shooting -- unfortunately, me -- didn't get an awful lot of action besides occasionally tapping the enter button. Still, thinking back about those days always puts a smile on my face.
