Opera Unite application of the Week

Document Sync application running

Document Sync allows you to automatically back up the content of a specified directory to a remote computer running Document Courier.

Synchronization can be set to occur automatically whenever you want and can also be performed manually at any time by simply clicking the "Sync" button. Simply specify the receiving Document Courier service URL and its respective password, as well as the folder name which will identify the folder within the Document Courier shared directory where the files will be stored.

We'd like to congratulate mjgrainge on becoming this week's winner! Thanks for creating Opera Unite application and keep up the great work!

Applications of our dreams

There are many applications we would love to see created! Here are a few ideas for future Opera Unite applications:

  • Tree house: Remote control of lights and heating of your backyard tree house! :eyes:
  • Birthday: An application where visitors can leave a birthday greeting for friends! :hat:
  • Cooking Unite: A place to share recipes with comment functionality. Add support to embed photos + videos and I think we got a winner!
  • Look what I found: A sandbox where you (and visitors) can drag'n'drop anything cool discovered online such as news articles, YouTube videos, game demos, etc.

Who wouldn't love a job where you get to make grape kebabs for fruit bats, getting mobbed by lemurs for tamarind pods, having coatis climb my legs with their sharp claws and being... ear-raped by monkeys!? :eyes:

Anyway, this blogger apperantly do and her blog is full of great stories (check out the "A bear in a bearhat" post... hilarious!) and some really great pictures.

We always have a great time reading her blog, and we think you will too, so please give it up for lixxylu - this week's member of the week!

Opera Unite application of the Week

Web Proxy Opera Unite application

This week's Opera Unite application of the week, Web Proxy, provides remote access to a local Web Server which allows execution of PHP/Perl/Python/etc scripts. This application is useful for developers who want to run and demonstrate Web projects they've been working on!

We had a chat with the developer and winner, javer from Ukraine, who could tell us a bit more about the future of his application:

"For future versions, I plan to make the application fully configurable through a Web interface - allowing to hide local domains names from external users and configuration of multiple domains on the same application. All in all, I have a lot of cool stuff coming."

We are looking forward to future updates and more cool applications from javer.

Applications of our dreams

There are many applications we would love to see created! Here are a few ideas for future Opera Unite applications:

  • Pong! The classic old school game.
  • A chess simulator. :sherlock:
  • Hangman! Come up with a word and send a link to your friends to see if they can crack it!
  • Poker. Host your own game of Texas Hold 'Em. chuck norris

We appreciate good design, but sometimes content is king, and this blog is one of our favorites. We love how she highlight designers and artists she find interesting!

Although she spend a lot of time reporting on other people's work, she also sparks off interesting discussions. Like her Picasso story proved.

Her posts are mostly about design, but she also knows a thing or two, as her design portfolio proves!

Put your hands together for our Spanish graphic designer Henar!

Help shape the future of My Opera

A lot of community ideas

My Opera has been growing a lot this year (check the stats) and it seems like you're having fun blogging, sharing photos and whatnot. Like everything else, My Opera has to evolve and our designers and coders are busy working on improving the site. Over the years we have been gathering feedback from various forum posts and chatting with our most active members, but we want to give you a chance to let your voice be heard, so we've prepared a forum post where you can tell us what you want!

We are currently working on our "grand plan"* for 2010 and we have a new version of My Opera in the making, but before we do too much work we want to hear any ideas or suggestions you may have.

Please keep the discussion serious. No trolling or bashing, please. We really want to tailor My Opera to your needs. Those with the best arguments how to improve My Opera might get them fulfilled!

* Yes, world domination is a goal.
