Today we launched a series of articles on Dev Opera called the Web Standards Curriculum (WSC). It's a complete course to teach you standards-based Web development, including HTML, CSS, design principles and background theory, and JavaScript basics.
The Web Standards Curriculum already has support from many organizations (including Yahoo! and the Web Standards Project) and universities. The first 23 articles are currently available, with about 30 more to be published between now and late September!
Start learning now from the first article, or participate in the forum discussions.

This Friday we'd like for you to meet a 24 year old Austrian who's currently studying physics at the Graz University of Technology and currently living in beautiful Trondheim, Norway.
He is currently working on his diploma thesis at the Norges Teknisk-Naturvitenskapelig Universitet in Trondheim (NTNU). It is entitled "The Circuit Theory of Mesoscopic Transport for Superconducting-Ferromagnetic Structures with Spin-Active Interfaces" and falls into the domain of Theoretical Physics.
Anyway, besides being a good student he has a really cool blog design along with an impressive amount of sweet photo albums. We especially recommend you check out his snowboard roadtrip during summer 2008!
Good luck with your studies Severin, and keep up the great work you're doing with your blog!

This contest has been the topic of discussion since June last year (and most likely even longer). The goal of this contest is to find out who can create the best User JavaScript in the following two categories:
- Best site enhancement
- Best tool (in general)
The best User JavaScript overall will be awarded with a brand new HTC Touch Diamond™ with Opera Mobile 9.5 pre-installed.
Guidelines:
We've defined a set of guidelines which will help us evaluate submissions, but also assist you in creating a winning entry. We recommend everyone have a look in the User JavaScript tutorials hosted on userjs.org, but also our own "Take control with User JavaScript" guides are a solid read.
- The script must not create variables or functions in the global scope or leak information to the page it runs in (anonymous functions).
- The script must not modify Object.prototype properties.
- Any changes to a site's own scripts or DOM should be as small as possible and as resilient to site changes as possible.
- Sites that are enhanced / fixed must be publicly available. If user accounts are required, registration must be free.
- You're free to participate in either one or both categories.
- Deadline is Tuesday, July 15th.
In addition, the script must be well documented / commented:
- What is being fixed or enhanced?
- How does the fix or enhancement work?
- How can we test the script?
To submit your entry, please use this competition form. The User JavaScript file can be hosted (for example) on your own My Opera files account (zip the folder along with documentation and upload). Please include a short summary about your User JavaScript along with a download link. All entries will be reviewed by Opera staff.
We've created a forum post for any questions or comments you may have regarding this contest.
Good luck, everyone! We can't wait to see those great submissions!

This is truly a lighthearted blog which makes great use of mobile blogging. To update your blog from your mobile phone, you must first enable the MMS function for your blog. You will find an email address on the top of your blog when you're logged in. Use this to send pictures from your phone to your blog.
If you need additional information, check out our mobile blogging FAQ.
Anyway, we believe that a picture (sometimes) might say more than a thousand words, so here are some of the My Opera team's favorite moments:
There's a lot more where that came from, so be sure to check out Haystack Baloon's blog, this week's member of the week! Congrats!

The Opera logo has gone missing on the four pictures below. Some logos are easy to spot, while others are not. Your job is to find the hidden logo in each picture.
Update: All logos have been located! Check out the prizes blog for more information.
Rules and information:
- Submit your answers using our contest form
- The winner will be announced in the Prizes blog
- Do not post the answers in this blog post as a comment. It spoils the fun
- This contest is open to anyone who is a registered member of the My Opera community
- There is no age limit required to participate
Good luck!
