This is Mini!

A Norwegian online magazine (digi.no) visited Opera last week and wrote an article (Norwegian only) about Opera Mini traffic and our very own server room. We've translated parts of it here (just for you!) and uploaded the pictures to Choose Opera. Simply click on the thumbnail for the bigger version. Enjoy.

Birkelund going in depth on details to a reporter from digi.no while Oleg and Tor scouts for spies to the left and right (they've got everything under control). Also note the server rack to the right with 96 blade servers. mini thumbnail

One way to get famous on My Opera is to have one (or more) of your photo albums featured among the top rated pictures. A couple of weeks ago this was what happened to this blogger. This confused her, so she decided to write a post about it. We ponder how she'll react to this post...

Anyway, earlier today we noticed that her status changed:

member of the week's status field

Hopefully she'll stop freezing soon... Oh, by the way, we demand to see the status updated to: "Jumping and screaming". P:

This week's spotlighted member is a really cool one. Everyone, please congratulate rose-marie, this week's member of the week!

Opera Fan Art

Let's Build the Future Together!

fan art winner

The amount of detail in this picture is nothing but amazing. The creator, Oleg Melnichuck, must have spent countless hours on this illustration. There's no doubt that this picture deserves max attention from both the Opera community, but also from respective design communities. Oleg can look forward to receive an Opera latop bag packed with goodies. Congratulations, and thanks for creating this masterpiece.

Operaman and Speed Dial

fan art second place

Khadgar's motivation for creating this super(hero) cool comic of the Operaman with his sidekick Speed Dial was to receive a cheesy cheese slicer. This is one of the coolest drawings we've ever seen and we know that many Opera employees who already have found their new favorite wallpaper or screensaver picture. A favorite among the Opera staff, but also (now) for the Opera community. We'll personally make sure Khadgar receives a brand new My Opera t-shirt and his cheese slicer.

Opera In Flames

fan art third place

The third place was suggested from one of our users. It has quality written all over it and has a really cool fire element to it. You can never go wrong with that.

Opera Fan Art

We also received 30 more great submission which all deserves a spotlight.

We're sure there are a lot of other great Opera fan art out there, so keep it coming. We would like to thank everyone who submitted their work. We had a lot of fun with this contest.

Clean Up

For sanitary reasons and health code violations we were forced

Today we decided to clean our office. This involved going through our (over stuffed) drawers, cabinets, work desks, etc. You know the drill... Anyway, we kept the really good stuff. Here's the loot from today's adventure:

  • Some crayons
  • Really cool Bruce Lee action figure
  • Invitation to Google's After Hour party in Davos last year (we didn't go)
  • Macromedia Digital Clock (which actually works)
  • Copy of Opera Software Ethical Guidelines
  • Loads of free CD's with audio samples (from different magazines)
  • Monitor Installation Disk (with install.exe, monitor.inf and ICM color profiles)
  • Opera Software Annual Report from 2000
  • Wii Remote
  • Thomas C. Ford birthday card invitations (hey, if anyone want these, let me know)
  • Box with Christmas Lights
  • A blue maze game
  • Opera Software stress ball
  • An Aussie stubby holder
  • Joker card ("The Dark Knight", anyone?)
  • A check for 100,000 yen Won (kudos agony for clearing it up)
  • Party hat and some decorations
  • A brochure about the The Swedish national ice hockey team (that's Fred's, not mine)
  • After Dinner Mints

Screenshot Or It Didn't Happen!!

Relax. We got proof:

a lot of stuff on a desk

Have you cleaned your room/work space/apartment recently? What did you find? We're waiting, eagerly...

This Friday we want you to meet a 20 year old Lithuanian student who's been a member since July 2006. He has a fully customized blog and it's easy to tell that he has an eye for design.

Even though he doesn't have the biggest collection of blog posts they are all of superb quality. He also has an impressive photo album collection. One album in particular is dedicated to his newest shots. At the moment he's learning how to become a professional photographer by mastering different angle compositions. His shots are of course on display and he's very interested in feedback, so please tell him your opinion!

We want to congratulate MEMXE; this year's first member of the week!

Her blog is titled "A dive in the pond" and it truly is. Her posts are a great mix of everything from work-related subjects, to great music festivals, and cool My Opera news.

We're simply star struck by her blog and the high level of activity she has in our community. It's great to see someone with so much joy actually express it. Good stuff!

When she received her free Rock Opera tattoos she decided to try it out and share the moment with all of us... And it looks great! Just check it out:

Keep up the good work and thanks for always spreading the word about Opera violetisha. You're this week's member of the week! Congrats!
