Beta of Opera Mini 4 is here!

Opera Mini 4 beta

To start with, give it up for the best mobile Web developers in the world! They've been working day and night to give you a sweet and improved browsing experience for your mobile phone.

We know many of you use Mini on My Opera to blog, read posts, upload photos, chat with friends, so we hope this beta will make your online life easier (and faster).

So, what's going on today? Well, a lot of cool stuff. For one, there's a new challenge here at My Opera where you can win a brand new mobile phone (it's hot, believe us).

If you want to chat about the beta we suggest you join #operamini on IRC (if you're using Opera just click the link, if not, read more).

Secondly, we think you should have a closer look at 10 reasons to love Opera Mini 4 beta.

The most important thing is to head over to operamini.com/beta and get the beta itself (that's what matters). Have a great time with it. We know we will.

Last but not least, here are a couple of cool vids we want to share with you. Enjoy!

YAY some great cool features somehow some are not so

Jerome S. Gotangco 19. June 2007, 20:15

The beta is great but there are still some sites that are a bit tad to slow to render probably because of transcoding. But the change in direction to offer a full web browser experience via zoom in / zoom out is a great step; this can almost replace the default S60 3rd Ed browser for me!

porneL 19. June 2007, 20:59

Nokia 6100's browser reports 404 error when I try to download beta (v3.1 downloads fine).

theoddbod 19. June 2007, 21:14

Okay, I just went to www.google.com for the first time, and at the top I have a link to somebody's Gmail account with their email address prominently displayed. Already logged in. To be frank, the login thing in the Beta is FUBAR.

Felipe 20. June 2007, 01:14

dont work with orkut

jayadrathsingh 20. June 2007, 01:17

With opera mini 4 we are unable to sign in gmail and orkut account. Previously it was fine with opera mini 3.

Elvisnazareth 20. June 2007, 01:33

Dear opera team congratulations!!! Great work ! Opera is the browser everybody surfs on. Well since i an having a 6600 for the past 2 yrs i feel more comfortable with opera mini 3. Maybe you require a high end mobile or palm pc for the beta. Beta (a son in Hindi lang. ) has a long way to g(r)o . . .

Ted 20. June 2007, 03:42

我就喜欢!!!

Wael 20. June 2007, 04:59

Great design, photos are now more clear on my 6600 and I love it thanks to the fast browsing, really it's very fast, the zoom in/out works good.
But there is some problems I tried to login eight times before it works then when I click on Submit after writing my comment it says that I should login!! I'm now writing from OM 3.1 and I can't login in my space. I can just login in my email.
There is a problem in Arabic it comes to opposite for example Opera >> arepO
arabic works good on OM 3.1 , I can't leave the early OM because 70% of sites that I visit are in Arabic.
However there is also some improvements for example in the site of FIFA.com the comparison between teams is now available, it didn't work at all with OM 3.1 it says please wait...

Wow. Now I'm starting to understand why the iPhone doesnt allow 3rd party apps. As soon as I loaded my first page in Opera Mini 4, it locked up my Samsung A900. Like hard core, I had to remove the friggin battery to reboot, locked up.

I know, I know, its beta, and I forgive them. But stuff like this can drive a person mad.

Antar 20. June 2007, 09:40

Yeah baby, yeah! Rock N' Roll!! Great work guys, bravo! Keep it on ;-)

Jadd 20. June 2007, 09:48

I didn't like the Opera Mini vs. iPhone video. The PC vs Mac ones are funnier.

Jānis Diekonts 20. June 2007, 10:37

Looks amazing,works good,but I have some problems.
It disconects from pasword locked services in a short time,so I have to login often again and again. I could not blog image in my blog. The box is just not responding to click!
And it still does not have feature to read or write users data,to get pictures and files from phones memory.
But I was surprised of what is good in new version. Good job Opera team!!:-)

nonilon becina 20. June 2007, 10:42

hi, im n0t able to download operamini beta 4, im using s0ny ericsson k700i, pls help me, tnx!

Wael 20. June 2007, 11:54

Opera Mini team are working now to fix the bug of short lived coockies

abhrapro 20. June 2007, 12:12

nice thing for non symbian sets.i think there should be an option to download/upload files(i mean not opening the default browser) and there must be an option to use wap gprs connection.actually igprs is very costly and if we can use it with wap connection then its just so much better.
And if possible plz solve the orkut problem
that for now

Imu 20. June 2007, 13:46

Its cool! Have a lot of problems to solve. Hope final version will make us ease and free. A lot of thanks OM team.

arsradu 20. June 2007, 15:36

Awsome!! I love it,I love it,I love it!! But! There are some problems in selecting a link in 'fit to width" mode. Also the "remember on this computer" thing it's not working even though i only enter on the same homepage again. For example Yahoo homepage.

disappointed1 20. June 2007, 23:03

To all of you saying Dimension is great...Whatcha been smokin'? Seriously, this is up there with the worst, most irresponsible beta releases I've seen in twenty years of computing. I'm really stunned at Opera's lack of judgement on this one. Free or not, it's just bad business to release a product for the general public to have at when it's in the condition Dimension is in. I'm really sad because I loved Mini and always hawked it to anyone with a phone. ManneS disappearing "out of the country" when "Dimension hit the fan" was pretty funny though. People will tire of the novelty and hassle of this piece of fluff browser.

Dmitry 20. June 2007, 23:09

Wrote this also in feedback, but...
Using Nokia 6681, Russia.
Is it possible in java-applications such as Mini Opera to assign standart access point like in Opera Mobile?
Will there be a possibility to copy the selected link using context menu? It would be very useful.
Next, when trying to download the picture, my phone tries to open the built-in browser but there is no enough RAM to open it, so it's just impossible to download the image using Mini Opera. That's not good...

DM_CGO 20. June 2007, 23:21

Opera Mini4 Beta is a GREAT upgrade to the BEST mobile browser ever! That said, when I tried to navigate Yahoo! and the BBC links from the "Start Page" I got the following Error on my Samsung Blackjack (Cingular) with 1gb micro SD card:
"Error
java.io.IOException.null " (load images- OFF, Fit to Width- OFF, Auto Zoom- OFF)

The phone LOCKS UP in Java applications which requires me to use Task Manager to shut down Java!

What's the fix, all of you Blackjack users??
(FIX THIS BUG, cuz I LOVE the new features of 4Beta!)

fantast_xue 20. June 2007, 23:59

it's stumbling in moto rokr e6. maybe for it's a beta version.and the login is always lost when openning another page here. 3.1 was ok!

fantast_xue 21. June 2007, 00:09

sorry, the login issue seems ok here now. thanks .

droopyargentina 21. June 2007, 01:52

Problem with Motorola A1200 Mobile
I install it, but then when it says: "Checking fonts..:" the program disappears.

It seems that it reaches 16% of checking fonts and bommbbbb
Nothing happens.

I will like to report this problem to Opera development team...
More info on : www.motorolafans.com/forum
Many users with the same problem....
Droopy from Argentina

dippydip 21. June 2007, 03:16

Great application with many cool features that would make many existing Smart-phone/PPC users stay away from the hype with iphone. However, I am dissappointed that Opera would release this beta so pre-maturely. After 2 days of persistent attempts to use Opera mini 4 beta, sadly, I have to uninstall it. Waiting patiently for the next opera mini release.

JERRY 21. June 2007, 04:40

Kakinga

xsaintx 21. June 2007, 04:41

It worked briefly n looked great but since then it's failed to connect. I have a SE K300i, and never had problems with versions 2, 3 or 3.1 . What's up?

AGNISSAN 21. June 2007, 09:55

That's cool ! Opera is the best. Hurraaa !Cool.

Alexander 21. June 2007, 11:15

As for now, there are numerous bugs present. But is seems that final version is going to be good!

Ted Rowland Elamparo 21. June 2007, 13:46

disappointed1 21. June 2007, 15:36

Are you all insane or drunk or are all these fake marketing posts? This is disappointing CRAP! Why will no one acknowledge that? You say it's great but it freezes? Hello? Turn on your brain? Opera...admit it, apologise and go back to the drawing board. You're beginning to reek of Microsoft.

Tomy B. Tuscano 21. June 2007, 15:50

Cool and awesome. With just few finishing touches, it will be perfect. (Posted using OM dimension on k700i)

kora 21. June 2007, 17:19

Motorola A1200 (the Ming) with Cingular - installation no problems, much faster scrolling action than with my standard operamini (that feature i really enjoy), i like the new look and feel of it although I don't care much for the "click here to enter text" boxes, i'm not running 3G so speed wise i can't tell the difference, no problems with logins (except to my office email on outlook web access), my only question is, where do i find the TIME setting? the beta version seems to run one hour behind... So far my experience is very positive

two thumbs up

Jose Mejia 21. June 2007, 18:28
