Qapla'

Star Trek winners

Thanks everyone for playing and participating in our Star Trek quiz. It was great fun, as always! There are a few summer blockbusters this year and we will be back with more movie contests.

“Qapla'” is a phrase from the Klingon language which means “success”. It's the most commonly used phrase amongst Star Trek fans, along side with “nuqneH”, which literally means “What do you want?”

Easter Hunt winners

During last week's holiday we asked you to complete a short, but very difficult (or so we thought), Easter Hunt on My Opera. We presented you with a set of riddles to be completed in order to enter a random draw to win a Nintendo DSi or an Opera goodie bag.

It took roughly 4 hours before missevilat had cracked all the riddles and was the first to complete the hunt. For her great effort we'd like to reward her with a cool Opera goodie bag. The lucky winner of a Nintendo DSi can be found on bottom of this post, but first let's have a look at the solutions of this year's Easter Hunt.

Walk me through it!

First riddleThe first riddle pointed you to Opera's very own "Faceman": Aleksander. We wanted to know what side you'd choose after watching our "Opera Mini vs. iPhone" video.

Second riddle wrongIf you chose right as your answer you'd be wrong, because we wanted you to say left.

Second riddle correctGood, good. Left was the correct choice! For this riddle we wanted to know "Barry" Allen's first name. If you looked closely you had a series of clues. You could examine the image and notice the small "Flash" logo embedded, check out the page title, google the blog text, etc. Anyway, "Barry" Allen's first name is Bartholomew.

Third riddle correctSome of you might not recognize the man up front, but if you looked behind him you'd see a famous plumber... You could "Select All" text or inspect the page source to find out a few more details about Satoru Iwata (President and CEO, Nintendo) and his popular column "Iwata asks" - which is the correct answer to this riddle.

Fourth riddleIf you'd come this far we'd be pretty sure you knew what to look for on this page. If not the hidden white text gave it away, you could look at the screenshot, the page title ("History is here") or the alt description in the image to find out you had to visit the Opera version history page to find the answer to this riddle.

Fourth riddleWe had hidden a very small egg on the page (Apr. 10, 2001) which linked to the the last riddle of this year's Easter Hunt.

Fifth riddleThe white rabbit has been made famous from film classics such as "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Matrix". We wanted you to follow the white rabbit too, and if you literally did what you were to told to do, you'd complete this year's Easter Hunt! :hat:

I love the fact that Opera is original and didn't steal their logo from some shit-hole company like Overstock.com. They came up with the big, red O on their own...which basically speaks as to how they do everything. They're flippin' pioneers, damn it!

I love Opera for the top 1 usability at any time: Great to surf without a mouse. Sessions is great for switching between surfing contexts. Styles is great for reading long docs and a lot of other small but important features

What I love about Opera is how I can easily manage my transfers, about the neat speed dial feature everytime I open it. I love it when I open MyOpera, I can continue from my previous session.

Well, there's actually two major things that makes OPERA my primary browser: 1. It's fast. 2. The built-in email client (M2) which is easy to use, efficient and... inbuild. Apart from that, many little stuff that makes my everyday browsing experience a pleasure.

Did you win in our Christmas contest?

Congratulations to our advent calendar winners!

Day 1: We kicked off with an easy question. We wanted to know the height of Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner. Correct answer is 195 cm and our first lucky winner was Kuja IX. Congratulations to him.

Day 2: It was time for a question about CSS. What stylesheet on opera.com is called if visitors (have to) use IE6? The stylesheet is called "ie.css" and serious was seriously spot on. Good stuff.

Day 3: We wanted to see who knew a bit about Opera's "Open the Web" project and its partners in crime. Which city in England does Opera's Chief Web Opener hail from? PientaL knew that David is from Newcastle. David Storey is an active blogger, both in his private blog and the ODIN team blog.

Day 4: We wanted you to choose question of the day for December 5. In light of the release of Opera 10 alpha Nerak wanted to know what development build of Opera's layout engine, Presto, scores what on the Acid3 standards compliance test. Thanks to Karen we could now continue the epic contest.

Day 5: This question was brought to you by Karen and Ryan knew that this build scored 100/100 on the Acid3 test.

Day 6: When we launched Opera 9 back in 06 we had a kick-off party in the US. We wanted to know in which city. Correct answer is Seattle (btw, check out cool photos from the event by best damn tech show and DotEd). Zarshir remembered the name and was winner of the day. Hooray! :hat:

Day 7: Speed dial is a popular feature of the Opera browser, and we wanted to know how you could add a total of 28 speed dials instead of the default 9 in Opera. David Terei knew that you had to open speeddial.ini, add/change (if already existing) the following lines: Rows=4 Columns=7.

Day 8: Yesterday we wanted to know how to add custom Web searches in Opera (and later change its keyword). Michael knew how to do this, among many others: Go to the site you want to create a search for, right click on the search box and choose "Create search". To later change the keyword head to "Tools" -> "Preferences" -> "Search". Select the custom Web search you want to edit and give it a new keyword. Easy.

Day 9: Today we want to know the Norwegian name for this traditional dish of dried cod soaked in a lye solution before boiled to give it a gelatinous consistency? :eyes:

If you think you know the answer, head over to the prizes blog for more daily questions and a chance to win!
