3,500,000 members challenge

When we reach 3,500,000 million members everyone will get a free upgrade to 2 GB

Last week, My Opera passed 3,000,000 registered members! :hat: We've seen impressive growth so far this year, but we want more! And we've got a nice surprise in store for all of you. With your help we'd like to see if we can reach 3,500,000 members. In return we will reward the entire community with a juicy upgrade from 1 to 2 GB of storage space!

Invite your friends

The faster we reach 3,500,000 members, the faster we will give you 2 GB of storage space. Here are a few helpful tips and tricks how to spread the word:

Tell your friends to join! If they're blogging on a different site, you could try to convince them to try My Opera so you can share stories and photos with each other.

We also recommend importing your contacts. This is a powerful feature, which not only searches My Opera for existing friends, but also gives you the option to send any of your contacts an invitation to connect. You can also send a personal invitation to any of your family or friends from this page. To access this feature, make sure you are logged in and choose "Invite friends" from "My page".

Spread the word on your social networks

If you have an account on Twitter, Facebook or even Digg, you can simply click on the "Share this" button at the bottom of this post and choose to share with your social network of choice.

You can even integrate Facebook and Twitter with My Opera. From the social networks section you can have your Facebook feed and Twitter stream displayed in your activity feed. To connect with Facebook and Twitter read more on the "Social networks" section accessible from "My page" (you have to be logged in to access this feature).

  • 9%: 13 - 17

Male:Female ratio

If anyone is wondering about the male:female ratio, we won't bother telling you. Oh, what the heck, it's 3.3:1. This is probably the most inaccurate piece of information we have due to... lack of information. If you provided us with more information our numbers would be more accurate, but we understand and respect everyone's privacy.

As you can tell from the statistics above, My Opera has visitors from all over the world and this is what makes this community a fun and vibrant place.

The Adventures of Odd & Even

Odd & Even Johansen

Help us find the world's slowest connection

Meet Odd & Even, two brothers from a family with good strong packing traditions. Their grandfather once packed himself into a bucket. That's pretty good packing. The Johansen brothers have been hired by Opera to help pack Web pages down so they can get into your computer faster.

They're on a mission to fix the world's slowest connection! That's right. The two brothers are packing heat and getting ready to hit any spot, anytime! They need your help to locate the world's slowest connection and fix it.

How!?

Odd & Even are monitoring the forums and ready to go and they rely on you. Starting today - ending September 1st - they're looking for a place (anywhere in the world) with a really slow Internet connection to fix. Do you know a place with a slow Internet connection? If so, let them know in the forums and you might get a visit from the famous duo!

Good luck and may the slowest place win!

Invite your friends!

Invite your friends

Good news, everybody! You can now easily invite friends from services such as Gmail, Yahoo!, Hotmail, Windows Live and more.

To do this click on "My page" and "Invite friends". Enter your e-mail username and password and click on "Import contacts". You will see a list of contacts you can invite and at the very bottom you can immediately connect with friends who already are My Opera users.

One Week Warning

Online Writer Internship contest

Just one week left of round one!

The Online Writers Competition is well under way. We have a lot of good submissions and have approved the best of them. With the prize being a fully paid internship in Oslo, Norway for Opera, we want you to apply!

The perfect candidate has the ability to explain complex technology in simple terms, possibly with a humorous and light touch. Your background is not important as long as you have strong English writing skills.

How to join

To join the competition you need to write an article in 400 words about innovation in technology, you also have to include at least one Opera browser innovation in the article.

Check out the internship competition on the following page:

Good luck!

Celebration

Today's featured article

Thanks for all your contributions!

Good news, everyone! It's Friday (soon weekend, Woo Hoo!) and your favorite Web browser is today's featured article on Wikipedia! Hooray!

This would've not been possible without your help. Shout-out to everyone who support Opera and help keep this Web property fresh! We really, really appreciate it!

Here we see the Katakura High School Symphonic Band from Tokyo celebrating that Opera is today's featured article (no, wait... ignore that last bit). Anyway, the video is funky and so are you, so tune in and celebrate! :hat:
