Gaming is a popular activity for a lot of people. Some gamers raise the bar how good you can get and in "World of Warcaft", these players make up "Elitist Jerks", probably the best theorycrafting Web site in the world.
“Opera knows that the vehicle for online gaming is the browser, so why not make the browser a part of the game?” says Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software. “Gaming is something we have always taken very seriously, and by creating a custom browser for gamers, we hope to make their online adventures even better.”
The browser for the Elitist Jerks community is filled with numerous customized features, including a pre-set Speed Dial complete with important theorycrafting sites, selected RSS feeds and an array of helpful, built-in bookmarks. Elitist Jerks members or fans will feel right at home, as the skin and layout are designed to match the look and feel of their Online community Web site.
“It’s a thrill to finally have our own Elitist Jerks browser. Our community members have worked hard to build our site into the success it is today, and it is great to get the recognition from Opera who provided us a custom-made browser to enhance the overall experience,” said Andrew Hunn aka Boethius from the Elitist Jerks community.
Ever heard of "Wisła Kraków"? It's a Polish Football League champion based in Kraków, Poland, who now have their own Opera browser.
Why Opera
Why not? Opera has a significant market share in Poland (10.11% according to StatCounter) and this will hopefully make Opera grow even more and make the Web a better place for football fans too! Having fans of the club in our Polish office helps striking a deal with the club too.
This is most likely the first of many cool custom Opera builds available for download to a specific target group. Please note that you need a clean Opera installation for this special build to work! This means that old preferences and settings may have to be completely removed, otherwise the build will not work as intended. Make sure you back up your Opera files!
Anyway, feel free to check it out whether you're a football fan or not.

Good news, everyone! Today we launched Opera 9.6, which enhances the performance and flexibility of Opera's built-in e-mail client, while adding new features to Opera's free browser-synchronization service, Opera Link... Among other things. Also, Opera 9.6 is of course being shipped with features many of you already have come to know and love, such as Speed Dial (one-click access to your favorite site), session restore, mouse gestures, etc.
All these features and many others bring a fresh approach to browsing the Web with Opera 9.6.
Spread the word
To support this launch we've made a brand new video. We believe life is all about choices, so why not choose the best Internet experience for you? Anyway, we hope you will like our latest product releas and our new video. Last week a new browser was introduced to the world. This week, another Web browser makes its debut. Opera 9.6 beta is out today. The day is short and with features such as tabbed browsing, Speed Dial, customized search, Opera 9.6 beta is the Web browser that makes you faster.
What's new and improved
Opera Link in the Opera Web browser saves the day... and your settings! Move from your computer to your phone without losing your saved Web browser settings. Your bookmarks and Speed Dial will be ready and waiting when you start up your phone with Opera Mini.
We're also introducing a new feature called feed preview. This means that you can preview an RSS/Atom feed before subscribing. This is really cool and you can try it out even here on My Opera. If you're using Opera 9.6 simply click on the small RSS feed icon () located to the right in your address bar.
Opera Mail. A new feature in Opera Mail is "Low Bandwidth Mode" — a setting that makes Opera Mail use as little bandwidth as possible. There have been several improvements with our built-in mail client. Have a look at the complete changelogs: Windows | Linux | Mac.
Wallpapers are available for download and so are banners. Help us spread the word!
