Today we announced a deal with the Meridian Group to pre-install Opera Mini on its new Fly E310 handset. Meridian is a leading player in the mobile phone industry with its flagship brand of handsets, ‘Fly’. This isn’t the first time we’ve worked together; Opera Mini has been pre-installed on numerous Fly handsets since April 2007.
The Fly E310 is available in the United Kingdom, Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Opera Mini comes pre-installed on these handsets and is translated into the local language. Fly E310 mobile phone owners can browse all their favorite Web sites using the world’s favourite mobile Web browser.
Commenting on the deal, Andrew Collinge, Member of the Board of Directors of Meridian Group, stated, “when it comes to offering our customers a fast, secure and cost-efficient Internet service on a mobile phone, the popular Opera Mini browser offers the user an outstanding experience.”

Opera 9.5
Opera Software released its latest desktop browser, Opera 9.5 on June 12, 2008. We are very excited about this product because it represents a major step forward for us as well as our users’ experience. In addition to overall speed improvements, the following truly makes it a special release:
- Opera Link: Synchronize your bookmarks, speed dial and notes between different computer(s) and your mobile phone.
- Quick find: Type what you are looking for in the search bar, and Opera will search through all your previously information.
- New Skin: Scandinavian inspired design.
- Security: The best protection against malware and phishing available.
Please visit www.opera.com to download Opera 9.5.
We want everyone to know about this release, so now we are turning to you. You carry a lot of influence and we want your help.
Tell a friend
So what's this all about? We want to see how you influence others to download and try Opera 9.5. What you should do is create an event, group, page, profile, etc., on a social networking site where you can rally a group of people and display how many members have joined. The theme needs to clearly promote and encourage the download of Opera 9.5. Amount of members of a group will be used as an indicator how successful your promotion has been.
Be as creative as you want (keep it tasteful!). Feel free to use any imagery and videos located on www.opera.com to help you promote the software.
Sweet prizes
Once you have an event created, start promoting it. Those with the most members in their groups at the end of this contest will receive one of three great prizes:
- An XO OLPC, the famous $100 laptop, not available to the general public. A very cool computer!
- A Nintendo Wii. Do we need to say more? Easily the most fun and most accessible video game console available. And it could be yours!
- A mobile phone, perfect for Opera Mini.
Distribution of prizes will be determined according to number of users each winner attracted to his/her entry. So, the first place winner gets first choice of prize, second place gets second choice, etc,. Additional prizes will be awarded for unique and mentionable entries.
When the contest ends we'll visit your site and record the total number of members. We'll notify winners and publish the results on the frontpage of the My Opera Community.

In cooperation with Mini Spain we had 7 new Mini Clubmans driving around Barcelona during Mobile World Congress 2008 promoting one of our flagships: Opera Mini.
Previously we've given you a preview, complete coverage with pictures, and wallpapers by "VegetaSSJ8". But now we've even uploaded a video of our "Catalan Job":

Mobile World Congress is the world's largest mobile industry event. It's held yearly in Barcelona and attracts all companies who matter, plus more than 40,000 visitors. We were present this year as well, and this time we had our own show outside the massive demo halls.
With seven Opera Mini MINI's equipped with local drivers we were ready to hit the streets of Barcelona "Italian Job" style.
So, without further ado we give you "The Catalan Job":

MINI Spain have teamed up with us to showcase the two name-sharing products: Opera Mini and MINI (with similar punch under the hood as the original MINI Cooper, but with more legroom).
The all-red Opera Mini MINIs will travel in pack formation around Barcelona reminiscent of the famous MINI car scene in the film The Italian Job.
"The reality is that Opera Mini and MINI share more than just a name. The products themselves share many great qualities like being small, fast and fun. I personally look forward to riding around town in one. I hear the MINI Clubman has more legroom, so I actually stand a chance of getting in and out of one!" said Jon (who's 195cm/6'5" tall
) about the partnership.
For those of you not in Barcelona next week, keep a close eye on the Opera Mini team blog, which will be frequently updated with news, pictures and videos from the show.

So, we're looking for people around the world to be the voices of Mini in our most recent video.
It was well-received and is still being seen every week. We want to republish the same video, but with your own voice-overs in your native language, whether that's Russian, Spanish, Chinese, Polish, etc.
I Want To Translate!
Cool, send us your translated voice-overs (correctly timed to the video) and we'll choose the best ones to publish. The video in different languages will be featured here and on video sharing sites around the Web. If there are multiple voice-overs submitted for any given language, we'll choose our favorite to be featured (one voice-over per language).
Rules and T-Shirts
Everyone who sends in a featured voice-over will receive an Opera t-shirt.
The deadline for this project (to be eligible for a t-shirt) is February 18th.
Submissions have to be sent by email.
In addition to the audio file, please send us your translated script as well. To make things easier, here's the original script in English.
Note: For quality control purposes, we reserve the right not to feature a submitted voice-over, even if it's the only voice-over submitted in a particular language.
Technical Things
16 to 24-bit, 44.1 to 48khz AIF is the best full audio format for universal import into editing programs. These files should be around 25mb for a 3-minute track.
However, an MP3 is a scaled-down version of an audio file and is only about 3-5mb for a 3-minute track. To avoid huge e-mails, please send us MP3s, but keep a copy of your higher quality audio files in case we decide we want to use your voice-over.
