Help shape the future of My Opera

A lot of community ideas

My Opera has been growing a lot this year (check the stats) and it seems like you're having fun blogging, sharing photos and whatnot. Like everything else, My Opera has to evolve and our designers and coders are busy working on improving the site. Over the years we have been gathering feedback from various forum posts and chatting with our most active members, but we want to give you a chance to let your voice be heard, so we've prepared a forum post where you can tell us what you want!

We are currently working on our "grand plan"* for 2010 and we have a new version of My Opera in the making, but before we do too much work we want to hear any ideas or suggestions you may have.

Please keep the discussion serious. No trolling or bashing, please. We really want to tailor My Opera to your needs. Those with the best arguments how to improve My Opera might get them fulfilled!

* Yes, world domination is a goal.

Male:Female ratio

If anyone is wondering about the male:female ratio, we won't bother telling you. Oh, what the heck, it's 3.3:1. This is probably the most inaccurate piece of information we have due to... lack of information. If you provided us with more information our numbers would be more accurate, but we understand and respect everyone's privacy.

As you can tell from the statistics above, My Opera has visitors from all over the world and this is what makes this community a fun and vibrant place.

Twitter and Facebook integration

Twitter and Facebook integration

As some of you noticed, My Opera was taken down today for a short period of time to add some new features. We now communicate with the popular social networking services Facebook and Twitter. You can push updates, let everyone know what you are doing right now and My Opera will automatically let the world know when you've written a new blog post or created a new photo album with your favorite pictures. We've also integrated these two services with our very own activity feed.

I want to use Facebook with My Opera

You can use your Facebook account with My Opera. Once connected, your My Opera status will be displayed on Facebook and integrated with your friends' status.

To connect to Facebook click on "My page", "Social networks", then "Connect to Facebook". Follow the instructions to connect with Facebook.

Some of these settings require permissions on Facebook which you must allow when you connect with the service.

When you disconnect from Facebook all settings are reset and the active functionalities are removed, but the My Opera Facebook application is not removed from your Facebook account. To do so, you must manually remove the application from the "Edit applications" page on your Facebook profile.

I want to use Twitter with My Opera

You can now share your My Opera activites on Twitter. When you upload a new image or write a new blog post we can push the news to all of your followers on Twitter! In adition, you can view all tweets in My Opera's activity feed (as seen on your "Home" page). Naturally, we'll only share content that is set to "Public".

To use Twitter with My Opera simply go to "My page", choose "Social networks" and click "Connect to Twitter".

Fill in your Twitter username and password and click "Save". Please note: Your Twitter-feed needs to have activity otherwise we can't connect to it. Once you have connected, choose the options you want and click "Save". To disconnect, hit the X button.

More cowbell!

Relax! During the next couple of days we'll guide you through more of the new features we've implemented. Have fun exploring the current changes for now! cow

Yahoo! 360° blog import tool

Import to My Opera

Last week we released the first beta version of the Yahoo! 360° blog import tool, that allows you to automatically transfer your Yahoo! 360° blog and comments to My Opera.

So far we've imported 1000 blogs and have more than 100 requests in queue, waiting to be processed. The amount of weekly blog posts has increased by 20%. Some new bloggers from Yahoo! 360° have already customized their blog with colourful and creative skins.

However, some of you may have problems with the import tool. Here's a list of known issues:

  • The import tool does not work if you have special characters or spaces in your Yahoo! password. If you've received a mail from us telling you "Unfortunately ,we were unable to access your Yahoo! 360° blog" then change your Yahoo! password and retry.
  • Your pictures may not show in entries for some reasons related to the privacy mode in Yahoo. We highly recommend you to go to http://download.360.yahoo.com/ and click on "Prepare my download". You will get a .zip file containing all your pictures.

Thanks for understanding and as usual, we appreciate feedback!
