New York: Meet Dan
Thursday, December 22, 2005 3:51:08 PM
Dan Alexandru (aka dantesoft) of Romania is Opera's New York - New Year's competition winner!
He had presented us with an interesting story of romance, of love and of course: Opera IRC. His story was just too good for us to pass up. We wouldn't do the story justice by telling it here - read on in Dan's blog to let him tell it properly.
Congratulations, Dan. We hope to be kept up on how this develops.

But I dislike clip. It's pretty cheap looking...
Opera deserves more for Time Square!

Love at first byte, and now off to the Big Apple, for the real stuff. Great story. Congrats.
Enjoy NY, good luck, and happy New Year, to both of you.

Dan and Mira did unfortunately not manage to get their visas in time to go to NYC for new year's so we're sending them on a romantic holiday to another destination. The details are being finalized now. Stay tuned to follow Dan and Mira's adventures in the days to come! We will announce it on the front page of my.opera.com and you can also follow Dan's blog.

As much as it was a fun publicity stunt to put an ad on an electronic billboard in Times Square, Opera users and affectionadios thought it was great, but it did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to get a message out to capture more users in the US market. Unless there were a few computer users who happened to be paying attention at the time, which is probably NO! Times Square is noisy and loud at any time, and New Years Eve, even during the day, is even more so.
Those of us here in the US who know about Opera know it from friends, overseas travel and the IT and trade magazines. The ONLY way to get a BIG bump in usage would be to make a deal with a computer manufacterer to put Opera on their machines.
I have only good wishes for the lucky couple, and hope for good luck for Opera here in the US.
