Hi,
great skin I really like those screen-space saving skins!
One thing though:
I have the Progress Bar set to show inside the Address Bar. And they don't align very well with your new skin.

Otherwise, great work!

rseiler 23. June 2008, 21:31

So much better. I have no idea why Opera wastes so much space in the original version, but then they only had a few days before shipping.

The other popular request is making the scroll bar as visible as either the native skin's or classic's scroll bar. Do you think you could darken it up a bit to add more contrast? It blends in way too closely with the background of the scroll bar.

hurug 24. June 2008, 06:19

Thank you very much Tamil for that. A few points however, that I would appreciate.

1. The words in the main bar are not centered in height. The top of letters touch the border line when the bottom don't. If you could center them without necessarily reduce the bar, it would be better.

2. The sroll bar is still hardly visible.

3. The active tab would be nicer with a color ( some other skins have it in green)

4. Tab Bar. Same as 1, it is not centered. The Add Tab button touches the bottom line and not the top line.

Thanks again anyway. Good effort.

Tamil 24. June 2008, 11:22

@Mescalero, Thanks for notifying. Fixed.

@rseiler, Thanks.

@hurug, Thanks for your comments.
  1. Fixed.
  2. Added black border to scroll bar.
  3. Maybe.
  4. Partially fixed.

Mescalero 24. June 2008, 13:27

Thanks for fixing the progress bar, now this will be my standard skin for sure.

I don't think there is any need to color the active tab. It's quite visible I think, since it's a lot lighter in color than the non-active tabs. I tried the skin with the green actice tab, but I think colors kindy destroy the black-and-white look of the skin.

Bill P 24. June 2008, 14:34

Nice - not sure I like Opera's new standard color scheme but your customization is what the distributed skin should be as it's space efficient.

Request - to me the there's a bit too much horizontal spacing between icons on the toolbars (I'm used to standard zuper slim8 http://my.opera.com/community/customize/skins/info/?id=2843)

regards,

zogz 24. June 2008, 19:34

I really like the smaller design. This is great thank you!

bjf2000 24. June 2008, 19:39

Tamil, that is a better shade for the scroller, though I'm not sure about the black outline. That shouldn't be necessary given the shading.

Is it just an illusion, or did the scroller lose its "3D-ness"? When I was comparing it with the original, I swear it looks flat now and didn't before, but again I'm not sure. 3D-ness would help with visibility.

This is all picky, finish work, realize. The important work is done: the toolbars are small.

Tamil 25. June 2008, 08:43

@bjf2000, I added black outline for better visibility and scroll bar is flat now.

AdrianTM 25. June 2008, 17:09

Great improvement over the official one, thank you!

rseiler 25. June 2008, 22:07

Hey Tamil. In case it's of an use, I darkened the scrollbars a bit relative to the original and retained the traditional 3D look mentioned above (the flat look makes it seem like it's saved at a lower color depth and it's less noticeable). I didn't put the line on, partially because I'd have to research how, and partially because I think once you see it you might agree it's not needed. Here are just the two PNGs:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/bj6s62

BTW, in comparing the skin.ini from the original to 011, I notice you're continuing to tweak it here and there, so thanks for the attention.

rseiler 25. June 2008, 22:08

Forgot to mention that when I try to edit a post, I get "401 Authorization Required." That doesn't happen over in the Desktop blog.

Thank you. Updated skin with your scrollbars.

BTW, you can upload files to My files.

Serola 26. June 2008, 10:25

I was against new standard skin at first but I must say I like these improvements done by you Tamil. Now only one thing really bothers me and it's the 'menu button' I use: http://files.myopera.com/serola/files/menubutton.jpg
It's too dark on any toolbar when it's inactive.

Then minor issues are bad symbols used for new tab (plus sign) and for bookmark that has no favicon (star sign). New tab sign really has to be placed on the right next to tabs. Anywhere else and it does not tell a thing about it's purpose. Then star sign for bookmarks is strange decision from someone who originally invented it. It gives an impression like I should evaluate something.

zoquete 26. June 2008, 20:51

There is a bug in a known bug in original version, so that the addressbar is 2 pixels thicker than it should be. Thisa lignment bug is very good visible if you you hotlistabar (sidebar) visible. I mean sometimes are 2 pixels invisible and othertimes very visible as in this case.

The bug is here:
[Toolbar Button Skin]
Padding Bottom= 5

Correct value is probably: 3

I have set it to 2, to make my skin, like tamil, thiner  Looks great

fanfaron 28. June 2008, 18:14

Very good. Thanks for sharing the work.

bubbah 1. July 2008, 16:13

tamil, I used skin called OperaWonderland with no color scheme but wished for a "slim" version. Would you look at that and see if that might be done? I don't know the authorship as I have had it for a long time, but surely you could arrange that by attribution to the original author...just a suggestion as the "dark" toolbars were not present in that case...tia!

Cyro 2. July 2008, 14:12

This scrollbar knob rules +1
I hope Opera changes its mind and replace the default one. It has no contrast at all. Hard to see in old monitors.

rseiler 3. July 2008, 05:29

We need a revision history.

I think I'm going to stick with v11 for now, since the icons on the personal toolbar run *really* close together in v15, making it visually confusing.

Tamil 3. July 2008, 07:58

Reduced spacing between items so you can have more items in toolbar.

rseiler 7. July 2008, 01:16

I still think 11/15a > 15/15b. Less spacing may work on the address bar but not on the personal bar, most notably when text is used in addition to icons on the personal bar.

BTW, 15/15b introduced a thick line under the address bar (and pushed the bar itself down a peg vertically), which is probably not indented.

rseiler 20. July 2008, 06:24

Re that last sentence, it's "intended," not "indented" (not sure how I did that). It's probably just a matter of a single number somewhere.

Tamil, could you list the sections that pertain just to the new horizontal spacing/scrunching? There are many changes between the last two versions, and I'm hoping to isolate just that one change from the others.

Tamil 23. July 2008, 07:22

Currently, skin files are not with me. I will list when I get skin files.

Zotlan 3. August 2008, 18:46

Exactly what i was looking for, thank you.

rseiler 10. September 2008, 16:59

I don't exactly understand why anyone would want to use the new "opera:config#UserPrefs|EnableScrollMarker" pref in 9.60, but it doesn't show up with this skin, for whatever reason.

Tamil 12. September 2008, 23:57

You can easily find the line when you reach start/end of a long page without searching.

Skin updated & now you can see scroll marker.

Nicola Mantovani 23. September 2008, 10:56

thx for updating to 9.60b1!

hurug 8. October 2008, 13:16

Congrats Tamil. This is the one I use daily. Unfortunately, V 0.17 doesn't seem compatible with 9.6 final. The menu bar and dialog boxes are all black. I can't figure out what's the issue...
For the moment, I have to stay with 0.16.

Alexei 8. October 2008, 13:51

Nice skin, thanks!

Moogleman 9. October 2008, 20:28

I've noticed the newer versions have white pixels in the corners of some input boxes (search, address, etc). I'm sticking with the older version for now until it's fixed.

Still a great skin, though. Five stars.

Nabucco 11. January 2009, 17:55

Great improvement over the official skin! Perhaps better with a non-white background in speed-dial (black, grey, silver...)

Miladin Miladinoski 27. March 2009, 21:39

Fantastic, awesome, here's a beer!

Kuukunen 31. March 2009, 16:41

Great skin... However, when I turn wrapping on, the Panels button and the New tab button resize to the original height. I poked around the skin and managed to get Panels button look better, but found no cure for the New tab button...

rseiler 4. April 2009, 15:43

In v10, the Standard skin now has a resizer control to the left of the search box. Do you think you could liberate that for this skin? Thanks.

Kenneth Clark 14. April 2009, 17:55

Excellent job! This saves so much room for browsing that was wasted in the standard theme by the thick toolbars. Thanks Tamil. :headbang:

tunayx 1. September 2009, 16:47

Congurlations Tamil.

Elliott Berglund 7. September 2009, 15:35

This skin looks fine when the address bar is set to default settings, but its broken if you have it set to "Images and Text Below". The buttons are cut off on the top and bottom because of the margin settings.
