Great work!!
Thanks for this skin.

Umman 13. December 2005, 21:30

Teşekkürler

rubinproj 13. December 2005, 22:18

looking great !

decimal 14. December 2005, 00:17

nice direction!

Leto 14. December 2005, 00:17

Excellent skin. Very smooth. Love the icon set too.

DonAnkur 14. December 2005, 06:05

This is one of the best skins i have seen in recent times! great work and keep up the good work

DonAnkur 14. December 2005, 06:05

This is one of the best skins i have seen in recent times! great work and keep up the good work

jay2k 14. December 2005, 10:00

Excellent skin. Respect!

Snire 14. December 2005, 22:21

My favorite, thanks.

pepper. 14. December 2005, 23:10

its perfect. very well done. and i have a question, how can i change the color of the small line on the tab ? now its blue, but i want orange.
Again: One of the greatest skin i ever used.

jleedev 15. December 2005, 02:55

Thanks for the skin! This is exactly what I was looking for.

ilkdaft 15. December 2005, 07:44

nice one!

pholie 15. December 2005, 10:55

Nice skin! I like the icons and the effect of higlighting buttons when you get over them. But i think scrollbars could be improved to look more like the gtk clearlooks theme. The blue slider is not nice.

towolf 15. December 2005, 13:17

pepper.: You would need to open up the skin and use a graphics editor.
pholie: I based this skin on clearlooks-cairo. It has been tuned visually and is using cairo, the emerging rendering technology.
So the colors are tied to the snapshots I used (CVS ver. 231105).
http://clearlooks.sourceforge.net/

Leto 15. December 2005, 21:32

Having used Tango CL for a few days now, I have some comments for possible improvements (only minor things really):

-- Column headers (eg. in Transfer window: Name, Size, etc) have a yellow hover colour which does not look too nice

-- Could the "default action" button on forms/dialog boxes be presented differently to other buttons? Looking at the Clearlooks screenshots it appears that they use a darker or thicker outline

-- I am a fan of hover colours and notice that most form elements (eg. buttons, dropdowns) have no hover state. Perhaps a subtle change of colour (similar to the scrollbar's buttons)?

-- In my Panel window there is a small >> button. When hovered, the top of the rounded border is missing (looks like it's cropped at the top)

Great work.

pholie 15. December 2005, 23:33

Aha, then ok, I don't use cvs version of clearlooks. Here's what i'm used to, that's why i thought colors are bad: http://clearlooks.sourceforge.net/screenshots/clearlooks-0.6.png

villiansv 16. December 2005, 00:32

Is it possible to make a version with smaller tabs and overall smaller margins/padding (i.e. a more minimal version)? I love the colours and icons, but it's just too big for me.

Mondsplitter 16. December 2005, 06:17

I'm using your skin since about 30 minutes and I like it. And the best of all is the change of the RSS-notification. This logo is as far as I know from Firefox, but even Microsoft says that they are using it for their new IE, so it's getting kind of uniform in all major browsers.
Thanks man, great skin.

Only one thing make the line over the tabs change their color if the whole color of the style is changed. Not for me of course, I like blue. :-)

konic 16. December 2005, 12:46

Well, it is really a good work! Just a minor question. The "Recycle Bin" icon in "History" is different from the "main" one. Was it done on purpose or just missed? And the "New page" icon is kinda strange

towolf 16. December 2005, 13:19

Leto:
1. Done. Didn't realize they have hover states, too.
2. I see that there used to be an outline, which is absent in CVS. I went for the ant-colony for now but I noticed that it clashes with Opera's tabbing focus and it doesn't work well.
3. Au contraire. There are hover states for all elements that support it (i.e. now; text entry fields don't highlight for one). They are just really subtle.
4. Fixed (replaced legacy 9x9 icon).
Thanks for the hints!

villiansv:
The point of this "skin" is to make Opera stand out as little as possible on GNOME desktops. So, for a good match I would have to make the padding even larger in places. Since there's no native GTK UI I did this skin.
I think there are plenty of space saving skins out out there. Why not have a look at those? You are also free to remove some padding yourself.

konic:
That's the Delete action versus the recycle bin. I kept it because there's a corresponding Undelete. From Opera 9 on "pages" will be "tabs", so that's it "New Tab".

pepper. 16. December 2005, 17:54

Short Question: Where is the file for the tab color blue ? I can't find it.

edit: nevermind, i just forgot to put it back into a zipfile.

vespesian 16. December 2005, 18:16

The more you use this, the better it is....very very easy on the eyes. The size kinda grows on you.

Ilya_B 17. December 2005, 15:39

Great skin. Good choice of icons. I like tabs and colors of selector buttons.
But... it could be more compact...
5 stars

batschul 17. December 2005, 19:28

excellent work, from a usability and interface standpoint
just great, clear, with enough details needed to see
that it used to take up a fair amount of work, but still
doesnt overload the whole desktop ! My favorite one
since a long time, switching around, thanks!

sullysnet 17. December 2005, 23:37

great work, just wished the theme was smaller on the icons :o:

thanks

someone commented compact  ya that's it

blackimp 18. December 2005, 04:01

I like it.

pholie 18. December 2005, 11:45

I've nearly forgot you can use System color scheme with skins. This way you may tweak it more to your needs. I got nice ubuntu human color scheme from kde-look.org and in kcontrol i selected to use it also for non-kde programs. Now i have interesting brown scrollbars and... everything is brown. You can try running opera --style default if you use some nice qt theme. Very good looking with this skin.

Leto 19. December 2005, 01:03

Towolf, great update, thanks. By bad on the element hovers - they really are subtle...

Two more tiny things for perfection. Go to your Opera Preferences window to see these.

1. Looks like a 1-pixel gap between the tab header and the frame below.

2. The outside of rounded corners on text input boxes (eg. Home page) are not transparent but have a light colour. This is more obvious against darker backgrounds

towolf 19. December 2005, 13:32

1. Ahh... there's a hack involved that I snatched from PlastikOpera which allows the active tab to not have a dark bottom line. I've carefully tested that on three installations. I guess the font size is the cause for these gaps. EDIT : Fixed?

EDIT: 2. First I suspected a bug in the skin engine. Then I became aware that I should not rely on the Skinning Guide. Fixed

For anyone that has many pages open often. Try to have the page bar at the right side. I put in special sideways tabs that might provide some compactness.

Also, inside the skin archive is a revised tango-style Opera icon in SVG for use as a program shortcut.

Leto 19. December 2005, 22:17

Nice work, Towolf. The tabs looks fine to me now (there is a very faint line beneath the active tab but you'd have to be looking closely to notice).

Rounded text box corners and active buttons look great.

konic 21. December 2005, 02:08

Now I found some annoying stuff :frown:
When slider of the Bookmark panel is moved
then some horizontal lines (Separators?) are left behind.
Probably because of some refreshing issues.
But it does not happen in WinVista.

ioannisss 21. December 2005, 18:44

Awesome! Smooth and simple. Thanks for sharing.

zhangyunfeng 22. December 2005, 13:38

great skins, very nice

freydus 25. December 2005, 17:13

great skin - thanks

Thalion 28. December 2005, 08:42

Can you please make a native version of this theme? Tango is supposed to be a unified icon set for both desktops, and Opera generally looks better in Qt-based environment with native skins. And not to forget native OS L&F for those of us who use Windows as well - the icons are just too beautiful to miss out on them, no matter what the platform is.

innbound 28. December 2005, 09:46

Nice. The blue scroll-bar is really cool. Icons could take up more of the buttons so they're not so tiny when downsized (panel buttons are rather big - have to set them at 70% to make many panels usable - the green hover is ummm >.>). I really like the appearance of the tabs in Neo and Stardust, these seem a bit to flat. Have you noticed how the netscape copy skins for Opera don't really have the rounded look? This skin would be extremely cool if you could get that *domed* look happening  Good work towolf +1

lobais 28. December 2005, 10:44

Super, I was just wondering how I could make Opera better fit into my desktop. This made it. Although the menus still have an ugly gray color, but maybe you can't change that with skins?

innbound 29. December 2005, 12:36

Just noticed a couple of interesting things... 1) if you bring up the appearance>toolbars (shift+F12>toolbars) and un-check the 'page bar' option the tabs look like the default skins tabs (which really does match-up better with the blue scroll bars in my opinion than the blue-tipped tan ones) maybe you could just use those default tabs and change their borders from white to the tan the rest of the skin uses?... and 2) the tabs do take up alot of screen space and they don't resize along with the buttons which makes them look a bit *cartoony* and dis-proportionate even at very high screen resolutions. None the less, keep up the good work towolf !, I'm liking this skin more and more by the day.

st_frank 29. December 2005, 21:50

Beautiful skin, clean & tidy. Only wish there was less padding on the objects. (sorry for repeating the request)

Anyway, thanks, this is great, keep up the good work!

Ejosh 30. December 2005, 00:07

I ke it very much... Nice to view.

jahtooth 30. December 2005, 23:58

Excellent work. Now Opera fits right into my Gnome Desktop. Many thanks for this sleek skin.

towolf 31. December 2005, 02:11

Thanks for all the positive feedback, people!
Regarding requests for modification, I'll feel free to repeat that I'm bound to how Clearlooks is laid out.
Actually, I don't want to use a skin at all.
I have some hints, still. Try turning _off_ the menu with Alt-F11 and use a menu button (folding out the same menu that used to take space plus which looks bad in GNOME being made in Qt).
If you want smaller tabs or buttons, get out a text editor and remove some padding at the sections Tabbutton and Pushbutton. Be aware that it's heikel to get it right, though.

decimal 3. January 2006, 20:58

After all this evolution, i've been checking so far, that has become the best skin for Opera. Fabulous work, man

Leto 3. January 2006, 22:18

Towolf, something of usability concern: web page popup windows that hide the location bar (Opera shows a small toggle bar containing the page's title) is always coloured yellow. That bar should be yellow only for secure pages, and default skin colour for non-secure pages.

I can provide you a screenshot if you're not sure what I mean.

Mathias B. 8. January 2006, 21:21

The arrows in textareas have a hover effect, even if there is not enough text to enable the scrollbar.

For me, this looks confusing.

Nevertheless this is a great skin. Sad enough that there is still no GTK-version of Opera.

GetTri 11. January 2006, 12:30

great skin,
thank you

towolf 11. January 2006, 21:35

Just wanted to take the opportunity of the update to demonstrate how in my eye Opera can look good under Gnome. Over time I learned to do everything I need with the keyboard and gestures. Consequently I only leave elements that serve an indicator function.
Regarding use of space it can further be seen that the skin isn't that much off when juxtaposed with applications like Epiphany.
http://my.opera.com/towolf/homes/files/opcap-nq8.png

konic 12. January 2006, 02:57

Well, my problem is fixed.
E-e-exelent

keeperb 12. January 2006, 14:07

Big thanks!

HEPB 12. January 2006, 20:36

Awesome skin  Haven't seen a quality skin for a long time, good job man ! A native version will be great too

lachralle 13. January 2006, 07:27

Very good skin -- the first non-native that I like for a very long time. 5 Stars

I noticed that some buttons are 24x24 pixels while most buttons are 22x22 (which seems to be right). The difference can give "jumping" buttons e.g. when fetching mails (check is 22x22 while stop is 24x24). If you want to fix it just go through the buttons folder, there are some more 24x24 buttons. Keep up the good work!

ebzzry 15. January 2006, 09:26

Long have I been looking for such skin, finally.

Two thumbs up! :-)

Dojd 15. January 2006, 10:55

fanstastic!!!! Very very very very very nice! Thancks from Minsk, Belarus

frease 21. January 2006, 06:52

Lovely skin! Can I request for native version? Thanks!

towolf 21. January 2006, 21:36

Under way. Was easier than I thought.

decimal 22. January 2006, 16:34

little default in this new version, when panel is active, the lack of bevel/dark border at the right of the panel mix the panel with the displaid page, don't know if i tell it nicely in english, but i hope you understood what i was meaning

sullysnet 23. January 2006, 05:05

I vote for compact version of this skin  wonder how hard it would be to alter the settings to make it compact ?

lovely work

behrangsa 23. January 2006, 18:04

Very cool skin  Small buttons look wiered though (i.e Gmail's buttons)

EmasXP 26. January 2006, 20:48

I really like this skin. Gnome is teh shit! 5 stars

coxy 30. January 2006, 22:24

Marvellous! I use this skin at work and at home.

vaz 30. January 2006, 22:30

Just brilliant!!!

cRoMo 31. January 2006, 17:54

I vote for a compact version too! Particularly the main toolbar's size could be reduced.

balachandar 2. February 2006, 06:51

cool!

LouisC 5. February 2006, 21:24

I also think a compact version would be great. Maybe about the size of the Opera Standard Zuper Slom skin...

bopheim 7. February 2006, 13:05

Wonderful skin. Thank you. Working good on Opera 9 TP2 also!

sullysnet 7. February 2006, 22:11

love this skin... will there be a compact one at some point

Dreamweaver65 8. February 2006, 16:06

super skin...very nice work indeed.
could anyone please tell me how to adjust the tab width though?
I'd like to reduce it slightly.

thanx.

down1nit 8. February 2006, 21:10

never have i seen a skin with so many positive comments. I tried it, and now i have to give you yet ANOTHER positive comment. Good job.

d.i.z. 9. February 2006, 23:41

New mail header in TP2 does not show icons while using this great skin. Is it possible to fix it?

larsae 15. February 2006, 17:02

Nice work! Now my ubuntu dapper looks a lot cleaner!

towolf 16. February 2006, 16:02

d.i.z.: I can't seem to get what you're (not) seeing there. Could you create a screenshot?

decimal 16. February 2006, 18:00

still this problem!

would be nice if you were able to fix it...

"little default in this new version, when panel is active, the lack of bevel/dark border at the right of the panel mix the panel with the displaid page"

d.i.z. 17. February 2006, 22:54

towolf: I was talking about this:
http://my.opera.com/d.i.z./homes/files/email_icons.png
I know, these are the default icons for every contact but they seemed a bit off at this place (mail header). But now, I think I'm getting used to it

This is how it looks in default skin:
http://my.opera.com/d.i.z./homes/files/email_icons_std.png

I was thinking about adding hardly visible head image over this empty card icon, something like this:
http://my.opera.com/d.i.z./homes/files/email_icons_mockup.png

cRoMo 18. February 2006, 16:23

What about adding the icons for "Open in IE" and "Open in FF" NonTroppo's buttons?

towolf 18. February 2006, 16:39

d.i.z.: Ah, I see. Actually thats' the same kind of icon for "unknown contact". Opera standard is using a desaturated head and I use "carte blanche".

cRoMo.: NonTroppo already contacted me asking for a WebDev toolbar support. I haven't found all the need symbols yet (Specs, CSS), but it'll come eventually.

cRoMo 18. February 2006, 17:09

Great  For IE you could try IE 7's icon which is quite pretty and I think fits Tango visually.

Maximilian B. 20. February 2006, 23:55

Well done skin, pal . It managed to push away my beloved "fresh" skin. It fits perfectly into my GNOME enviroment ─ I already use the Tango icons in GNOME . Thousand thanks for that great theme, the gnomishst ever .

Max.

non-troppo 22. February 2006, 19:25

Thanks for adding Web Developer Toolbar support to this nice skin!

decimal 22. February 2006, 19:32

yeessssss thank you.

However, firefox and internet explorer icons are in too saturated color, just making a screenshot of their icon program and putting them in the skin would be perfect!!

dare_to_be_erad 25. February 2006, 16:23

I logged in specifically to give you a comment.

This is by far the best opera theme I've ever seen. Usability and aesthetics are always key, and it's fabulous when a theme has both of them. I love this theme. It is EXACTLY what i have been waiting for. The icons are gorgeous, the widgets are sexy, the little details on the panes and tabs are wonderful. My favourite part is that you properly spaced out items in the links bar. For some reason a lot of themes squish them together, but these are so nicely done.

Kudos to you, and thank you very much!

fantastxue 2. March 2006, 15:07

In 69 version, the 'search' icon in panel is very cool, but the 'Transfers' is still ugly.

cRoMo 4. March 2006, 00:00

I am not sure if such button feature is in WebDev package, but it would be nice to put firefox icon for "Open page in Firefox" too. Also, IE icon looks just ugly :/ I definetely thinks you should use the one from IE 7 that I already mentioned in my previous comment. It so much better!

towolf 4. March 2006, 12:31

cRoMo: If your “open in” button adheres to the standard the critter should show up on it (the blue e does, right?).
Regarding the blue e, I don't have that program on my computer, but you could kindly assist me in obtaining a good 22x22 transparent png of the IE icon. I'll gladly include it.

cRoMo 7. March 2006, 15:41

For some reason FF icon is appearing after downloading your theme again :O
Regarding IE icon - I'll send it to you

NoobSaibot 12. March 2006, 21:52

great job, i love this skin. the best i've seen so far -- along with the blue_rider skin.

deep thought 19. March 2006, 18:07

Amazing work! One of few skins actually worth downloading.

robodesign 23. March 2006, 17:00

Very good

padule 24. March 2006, 09:30

this is absolutely the best skin around.
i want to point out a very small problem with the new opera 9.0 build 8303: when bringing up the quick find in page function with the "." and typing something, the text is cropped. with other skins this doesn't happen so i suppose is a problem of this particular skin.
other than that... perfect!

partizan 24. March 2006, 13:08

it is possible to return to old tranfer icon ??

towolf 24. March 2006, 13:27

padule: I have absolutely no idea what is causing that. I cut the pop-up down to the very simplest form.
Still truncated.

partizan: I thought about it (mainly because the selector is quite devoid of color now). You see, Opera will be able to not only receive data but also send (as it already does on IRC). Both modes are united in that panel. A dish makes sense in that regard. The vanilla skin uses the satellite uplink pictogram as well.

partizan 25. March 2006, 15:19

hmm, so i will just replace it  thank you for best skin ever

gregbzh 4. April 2006, 17:05

Nice.

h4l9k 5. April 2006, 18:11

great work! :-)

pembas 6. April 2006, 10:34

brilliant design: very clear, not overdesigned and great colours

Rantzien 15. April 2006, 21:46

Mmmmm, stylish. Clean. Smooth. Slick. A pleasure for designer eyes.

sullysnet 22. April 2006, 00:09

where is the compact version ???

zulender 24. April 2006, 08:31

great job

lancheng 26. April 2006, 07:42

I like it

POPOEVER 27. April 2006, 11:26

太漂亮啦,我喜欢!
Extraodinary, my favorite!

Shadow the Hedgehog 28. April 2006, 21:42

GREAT WORK!!!

truchisoft 6. May 2006, 20:05

I love this skin, no complaints tough, unless asking for a smaller tab is, but thats just a detail, i love it, tango project rocks

SneakerXZ 7. May 2006, 19:52

Hey very good work!

I want to my OS Skin. Is here any alternative to Windows Skin?

svem 8. May 2006, 11:14

Great skin! I love Tango.

Just a suggestion for a small change:
http://img149.imageshack.us/img149/3416/operaarrows7qy.gif

LPetrazickis 15. May 2006, 16:58

This is a marvelous adaptation of Tango icons. It fits in wonderfully into my XFCE install on Linux and looks quite good on Windows too. Thank you for your efforts, comrade.

fantastxue 18. May 2006, 01:36

The transfers icon on the panel is not so good.

behrangsa 22. May 2006, 11:09

Very great skin! But the "new page" button's borders overlaps with the toolbar's...

truchisoft 25. May 2006, 04:51

I am having some trouble with the weekly builds, email's subject seems to trim most of the time

rpsgc 25. May 2006, 20:21

Awesome  Good work.

jahtooth 28. May 2006, 22:27

I wish to express my gratitude for this pleasing yet functional skin. This makes Opera integrate so much better in a GNOME environment.
One detail though: you might want to look at the CSS for Email headers. I find that the skin truncates long subject lines even if there is space to display them.
Anyway, thank you very much for your work on this skin.

benne 9. June 2006, 21:12

Hey, das ist mal ein klasse Skin.
Vielen Dank dafür.

saudiqbal 14. June 2006, 16:55

I love this skin very much.....

ol3j 21. June 2006, 10:25

great !!

mutesounds 22. June 2006, 02:11

love the skin but wish the chat had icons for user list

RainArt 22. June 2006, 07:49

Excellent, long time I didn't use any Skin.
thanks.

Xeophyte 24. June 2006, 17:32

When a tab is open (maximized) there is also maximize icon.

mixx941 25. June 2006, 08:41

VERY nice skin.

Just one quick question. In single line text boxes, the underscore doesn't show up at all. It just shows up as a space. I'm guessing the box is a little too small to display it and it's going in under the viewable area. Any way to fix that?

Thanks

-Mark

towolf 26. June 2006, 03:31

No, there’s no way to fix that AFAICT. I filed a bug. You could try to experiment with the font settings for single line fields. Each font has its own descender value, so that could help.
There have been changes recently that affect text widgets and buttons inside web pages. Another example is the too low height of dropdown fields.
Fortunately, the clipping issues with the mail headers (which are toolbars now, not CSS) were fixed earlier.

santouras 26. June 2006, 06:15

Excellemt skin. well done

mizzmona 26. June 2006, 13:20

Hey, nicely done! Neat'n clean, light'n easy on the eyes, well designed icons with just a *hint* of playfulness...I like it!

Not too crazy about the (ohmygosh-GREEN!) mouseover coloring on the panel buttons, though, but perhaps that's just me... ;-)

Thanks! Great alternative skin!

towolf 26. June 2006, 21:04

Ah, a true connaisseur de l’art...

p01 27. June 2006, 18:24

Simply the default skin on each of the many versions of Opera I have at work & home.

Tracethe 2. July 2006, 13:58

Thanks a lot for your work!

Leira 10. July 2006, 06:28

wonderful skin! i like this skin so much, that i am looking for a desktop theme to compatible with it. u said it "emulate the Clearlooks CVS", but i cannot find a clearlooks theme (gnome or kde) as same as this opera skin. especially the scroll bar, all clearlooks theme i found have a gray scroll bar, with 3 shadowed lines on it, but not the beautiful blue scroll bar like this skin. could u please give some seguestion about the themes compatible with this tango opera skin? i am using KDE. Thanks.

and thanks again for this wonderful skin!

sorry for posting so hurry, b4 read all the posts. so it seems it is a clearlook-cairo theme of gtk2 from CVS, and maybe there is no such a KDE port, is it?

towolf 15. September 2006, 11:41

Small update today to adopt the default button style of Clearlooks proper.

In GNOME the blue scrollbars will be dropped in favor of gray, matte scrollbars. What do you think, should I adopt that change, too? In my eye the blue scrollbars aren’t too glossy like that, and being blue they are a good indicator of where my position on the page is.

Why not just make two different versions?

Rooy 23. September 2006, 16:58

Great skin, towolf!!
Though, can you make the chat smileys more consistent? E.g., the stick-tongue-out looks like from YM, and not like any other smiley [it's still the cutest, I must say ]. Other than that, the skin fits nicely with Windows Classics, and please keep a blue scrollbar edition :D.

edit: also, the timestamp in Feeds looks like it's on a seperate box, how can I get it blend nicely with the surronding?

towolf 24. September 2006, 09:11

It looks like a box because those headers all are on their own toolbar each and in this skin the toolbars are delineated with borders on top and bottom.
The smileys aren’t complete in the Tango iconset; not much I can do about it.

I'm not in the habit of changing my Opera skins often but when I get bored and decide that I want a change, I'll eventually shop around for a new look.

In the end however, I always come back to this Tango skin.

My congratulations to the author for a job well done!

fearphage 6. January 2007, 03:44

First off I'd like to say very good work on the skin. This is the first thing I download on any new install.

I was wondering if it is possible to get the windows theme formatting for form elements however. many times the rounded elements end up cutting off portions of the form and I would prefer standard (non-rounded corner) form elements. Is there a way to enable this feature or what should I edit to enable this?

towolf 12. January 2007, 15:05

Open up the zip file and look around in the skin.ini. Try commenting some lines first, but it will be not dead simple.

I played with the idea to make a new skin based on gnome-icon-theme icons.
You can check out the preliminary results and tell me how you like it.
It’s not complete yet but it has support for some newer Opera features like animation (few) and speed dial.

AleksOD 1. April 2007, 20:04

Wow, I love it! Such a fresh and clean theme, thank you! The only problem I noticed so far is that when you have loading page progress shown in the address panel, the buttons jump up. Can you please fix that? Otherwise - instant five-star

NovemberDobby 24. May 2007, 10:06

I don't really like this theme. It's clean, yes, but not particularly outstanding. I'm not sure why it's been downloaded so many times, when there are so many nicer looknig skins out there.

Yes; I know it's meant to emulate Gnome's Clearlook's theme, but that just makes it less original. Flame me if you will; but that's my opinion.

decimal 25. May 2007, 08:51

NovemberDobby: i do understand, every one his own tastes.
I personnally do not understand how TTT skins have so much success. But some have another look of what a browser have to look like.

This skins doesn't want to be awesome. It just want to be clear, efficient, easy to understand. And Tango CL do achieve that in a perfect way. The space between icons are well though, the icons are easy to identify. The color scheme is perfect.

And, for my perception of beauty, this skin is outstanding. I've been using it since december 2005, and i never changed, this mean that it's perfect for my use

cRoMo 5. September 2007, 00:30

Can you please give me a hand on removing that white, thin (1 or 2px) line above the tabs bar and below it? The latter one is only visible on the highlighted tab. I tried myself but didn't manage to find the corresponding lines in ini file.
EDIT: OK, got them, had to comment-out the Tile Top in [Pagebar Skin] and [Toolbar Skin].

towolf 5. September 2007, 16:08

That white line is actually the top border of the toolbar below (as you found out). Removing it will lead to poor toolbar separation elsewhere. Skinning Opera properly is a very fragile process, especially if you're bound to the look you want to simulate.

I'll try to come up with an updated skin for Opera 9.5. In some places it breaks the skin.

Here's a screenshot of how Opera looks with native Qt4 (-style cleanlooks) at the moment:
http://files.myopera.com/towolf/albums/28186/Bildschirmfoto.png

cRoMo 5. September 2007, 21:08

I do realize it will break toolbar separation for other toolbars, but that's actually what I want because that way it fits the Daurora KDE3 theme perfectly (http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Daurora?content=65297). Anyway, how did you manage to run Opera with native qt4 style? I thought it's not yet doable with 9.5 alpha (which I am using)
EDIT: OK, I found it out from csant's blog. Nice!

Hey guys, what do you think about my upcoming revised skin »GIT CL« (↑) ? It has a lot more features than the current one and updated visuals and the new Gnome icons.

I’m wondering whether it whould replace this skin or whether it shall be a new upload. And what name would fit for it?

Here’s a screenshot:

Very nice skin, I really love it!
To be honest, this is the first time I really like a skin that much that I changed the default skin ;-)

One question I have though: is it possible to add a custom background image to the speed dial window?
If yes, what would have to be its name and where would it have to be placed?
Or - if more complicated - what in skin.ini do I have to change?

Thanks a lot - for the skin and for your help!

Snapshot 18. February 2008, 15:26

Better than default theme!

the_Arioch 29. February 2008, 20:20

I think, Operagami is the mos stylish theme and this them is dull and not interesting....
It only left a bit to add, i use this theme day by day, since Operagami, Carthago and lots of others are too attractive and makes it hard to USE Opera.
Tango CL is dull just enough and is contrast just enough and is elegant just enough to be ike home shoes, the thing that suits great for everyday use, if you want to look at web pages and mail instead of the skin artwork.
Sometimes i switch to my lovely stylish Operagami and use it for a day or too and then inevitably revert to the Tango Clear Look :-)

"The obsolete Tango CL will be re-uploaded under the name »Tango CL Legacy« soon. It was too much work to get up-to-date with Opera 9.5."

towolf 13. June 2008, 15:37

lilmoder 13. June 2008, 19:42

There are glitch with tab-trash icon. When I point a cursor on it, it gets smaller.

BTW this skin is great! I'ts way too better than default skin. I think it even should be default skin for Opera...

towolf 13. June 2008, 19:56

lilmoder, I think I fixed that.

lilmoder 13. June 2008, 20:18

Nop. I even restarted Opera to check that

btw I love new feed and "Transfers" icons

towolf 13. June 2008, 20:30

l., you see this shrinking with the blue thrash can button on the tab bar, right? I tested with Linux and Windows version old setup and new default setup.
Are you using the default toolbars, or old customized ones?
Is it Windows? Have you re-downloaded the skin to get the update?

lilmoder 13. June 2008, 23:25

you see this shrinking with the blue thrash can button on the tab bar, right?
Yep!

Are you using the default toolbars, or old customized ones?
Some toolbars are disabled and I have 1 custom button right side of that trash icon (Dropdown menu bar. Your skin even have special ">" graphic for that button).

Is it Windows?
Yep!

Have you re-downloaded the skin to get the update?
Yep!

!!!BUT, I found what was wrong - that trash icon was old one (from 9.27 (I upgraded from 9.27 to 9.5)) with special drop-down menu indicator in right side of it. I changed it with new default icon without that "^" indicator. Now it works perfect

lilmoder 13. June 2008, 23:28

Eh... sorry for my bad English! :zip:

serola 14. June 2008, 19:32

Suggestion: flip the 'new tab' icon horizontally. It would look better when used on right side of the tabs. Even when placed somewhere else, it would symbolize the fact that new tab is opened on the right side of all tabs, or active tab, if that is selected in settings.

I also noticed the icon that is used for bookmarklets changes it's size when hovered.

towolf 14. June 2008, 23:33

serola, which icon is used for bookmarklets?

serola 15. June 2008, 11:07

Like this:
http://files.myopera.com/serola/files/bookmarklet.jpg
It's smaller when not hovered. It's for adding del.icio.us bookmarks and I don't remember where I got that, but its not the one you get via http://del.icio.us/help/thirdpartytools

serola 15. June 2008, 11:12

Now I know what icon it is! It's the one you get if you drag any bookmark from your 'personal bar' (bookmark bar) to toolbar.

towolf 15. June 2008, 15:31

Thanks serola! I fixed both issues.

serola 15. June 2008, 18:31

Thanks  Bookmark icon is now smaller than others but it does not matter. This skin is absolutely the best.

lilmoder 15. June 2008, 23:52

+1 to serola

towolf 16. June 2008, 00:18

serola: I opted to keep it small (16x16) because favicons are mostly 16x16, too. And if you line up several generic bookmarks and bookmarks with favicon, then they agree visually.

lilmoder: That's not really a bug. Thats’s one tall stretchy toolbar with . Nothing I can do about.
This is the toolbar image http://files.myopera.com/towolf/files/center.png
If you zoom it you can see it's the pattern.
You can listen to foobar in Opera? :insane:

BTW, if you find blurry icons in the menus that’s the fault of Windows. In Linux you get crisp icons everywhere because Qt uses 22x22px for icons in menus.

lilmoder 16. June 2008, 00:32

[q]You can listen to foobar in Opera? :insane: [/q]
Yep! http://xs128.xs.to/xs128/08240/fb2kplusoperaftw214.png
Check this out: http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=85799
I edited CSS for that panel (colors of my fb2k  ).

serola 16. June 2008, 06:25

@ towolf - Yes, I have noticed the bookmark icon is smaller on many other skins as well. Thank you for explaining the reason for this

serola 18. June 2008, 17:30

How come Tango CL does not seem to be on editor's picks :yikes:

towolf 18. June 2008, 19:15

It used to be, but one time the skin had spontaneously vanished.
I had it restored by my.opera team, but the Editor’s pick status was gone.
I don’t know maybe they will put it back.

I’ve made a lot of updates today, BTW.

lilmoder 18. June 2008, 20:48

This skin realy should be editor's pick...

..or it even should be default skin for Opera! Viva la revolution!!!

Gort 18. June 2008, 23:44

I've noticed that when I'm waiting for a page to load (while the browser is awaiting a response from the site), around 10 to 15% of my CPU is being used. However, other skins don't seem to do this, even if they have animated icons showing that the page is loading (DTA, for example). Just wondering if something can be done about this. If it's important, I have a P4 2.6GHz processor, 1GB RAM and running Debian Etch.

I'm very surprised that this skin isn't in the Editor's Pick section. Odd picking procedure they have.

towolf 19. June 2008, 02:37

Gort, thanks for the report. I made some tests with netcat serving nothing, i.e., Opera was practically only waiting.

- With the current APNG throbber (directly from firefox, by the way): ~45% CPU
- With the former small animated GIF spinner: ~33% CPU
- With static icon 1.7% CPU.

I have to make some inquiries about this, maybe file a bug or two ...
I wonder why I didn’t notice this earlier. 45% CPU for two small icons is excessive ...

jaminthorns 19. June 2008, 03:33

Wow you've made a lot of new improvements! Thanks for keeping this skin so up-to-date! :D

towolf 19. June 2008, 07:36

Gort, I think I got it down to roundabout the CPU used with DTA (6% vs my 8.5%). Please test.

The cause was probably my pervasive use of alpha blending combined with a computation intensive throbber taken from firefox Gnome skin.

Gort 19. June 2008, 13:05

Yes, that's much better. I'm getting around 5% on my processor using this new version, which is better than before.

Thanks.

CfYzUK 20. June 2008, 02:58

Is it possible to make "Trash" icon (where you can open closed windows) not to getting smaller when mouse hover on it?

It's because this icon is on tabs bar and when you try to reopen some window - all tabs headers became smaller and back when you move out mouse pointer.

BTW, very nice skins I'm using it from Tango CL 1 big thanks :)

P.S. I'm using Opera 9.5 and Tango CL 2.0.1.3

aaas, lilmoder, thank you :o:

grawity 20. June 2008, 17:56

one more thing: when Opera Link is enabled, and is syncing with Opera Mini, there's a "magic" Opera Mini folder in Bookmarks, with a different icon (with an orange dot). With Tango CL, the icon is not skinned (the default black folder is displayed).

Otherwise, for ($i=0; $i<0xBEEF; $i++) echo ":up:";

kleph 20. June 2008, 22:42

very nice. thanks for this.

I'm not sure if this is opera or this skin, but sometimes, the tabs seem to stretch to fit the title of the page. I know that there are other skins that do this, but I know that tango cl isn't suppossed have this "feature" because I've never experienced it with any other version of this skin.

jaminthorns 22. June 2008, 02:34

I know that there are other skins that do this, but I know that tango cl isn't suppossed have this "feature" because I've never experienced it with any other version of this skin. Also, when the panel toolbar gets to short to display all of the panel icons, this extender menu comes out, and that part is not skinned. serola 23. June 2008, 08:00

Congratulations for getting Tango CL into Editor's picks (again) I think it's especially sweet because it's first pick by editor that get first on the list since 'Opera 9 Classic Skin'. I do not know if this intentional from editors but I see that as an act of appreciation towards usability of Tango CL.

I also noticed Tango CL may never become first on list of most popular skins because people who have selected Tango CL will not switch back to anything else. Therefore Tango CL does not get many downloads. Probably people are not only trying it every now and then. They use it

efekan258 23. June 2008, 09:00

Please change binoculars icon on the search bar.it's for old skins

towolf 24. June 2008, 20:22

towolf 28. June 2008, 17:30

efekan, I like the binoculars, though. Binoculars represent »search«, magnifying glass represent »zoom«. And they are not old but new.

How do you think they speed dial could be made nicer? I think there is room for improvement, yes.

I re-added the inFF and inIE icons, they were still inside the skin, but I had removed their entries. Download again, please ...

efekan258 28. June 2008, 17:47

Speeddial window frames can be smaller and images(thumbnails) can be bigger.images too small...:frown:

Thanks for update

tytung 30. June 2008, 01:59

Definitely one fo the best Opera skin.

efekan258: To those who has more than 9 speeddials, the image sizes are perfect. since they don't overlap with the numbers.

it's better now.Thanks for update...

tytung 1. July 2008, 15:53

In this version, something's wrong with the speeddial highlights.

towolf 1. July 2008, 18:57

Mh, I made an error. Fixed.
Thanks.

tytung 2. July 2008, 01:44

Thanks for the fix. Nice skin!

anonymousoperauser 3. July 2008, 00:33

A nice skin, but the previous version was better. I was able to salvage the old theme from my other hard drive, but it would be appreciated if you would put the classic version back up here for those of us who don't care for the direction you went with in this theme.

wilhelmrahn 4. July 2008, 14:16

Is there a 9.2-compatible version somewhere?

towolf 4. July 2008, 18:50

No, I moved to the much easier skinning format of Opera 9.5. Before I had to create a lot of small PNG files, which was a lot of work. Now I have to create 9x less for each element in the skin.

Is there any good reason to not install Opera 9.5?

towolf 6. July 2008, 14:59

anonymousoperauser: Look here for the old version. There are many new Opera features that are not implemented in the old version. In these cases the default Opera skin will show through, like, e.g., on the speed dial.

CfYzUK 7. July 2008, 12:09

towolf
:( Old skin is very good too! Too bad you won't support it, but no problem. Maybe some cool features are missing (actually I don't see any difference ^_^) but it's works in 9.5.

One question about this skin how can I bring back menu bar from pre 2.0.1.7.1? Here what I mean:

2.0.1.7: | File | Edit | View | Widgets | ....
2.0.1.7.1: |File|Edit|View|Widgets| ....

What shoud I edit in source to bring back 2.0.1.7 style? I know it's metter of habbit to like narrow 2.0.1.7.1 bar, but wide menu is more ergonomic and easy to use, I think.

Thanks again for your work :)

supervibrant 13. July 2008, 12:13

Really not bad, but i like the older design more, that was warmer, more vibrant than this.

Too much blue for my taste.

jaminthorns 17. July 2008, 02:41

There's a minor error I found. I don't mean nag or anything but if your as much of a perfectionist as I am (which is obvious in this skin), I'm sure you'd appreciate it. There is a misplaced icon for the about item in the help menu, probably some kind of border image.

towolf 17. July 2008, 14:56

Yes, I know where this comes from. One user requested a toolbar separator on the forum. Just a vertical line to subdivide a toolbar with. There is a premade separator button by Tomu, but it uses the "Blank" image. I don’t know that Blank is used elsewhere as a "nil" icon.

So, I renamed my separator icon to "Separator", and you can get a separator custom button here:

towolf 17. July 2008, 14:58

So, download the update, it should be fixed.

liviopl 18. July 2008, 07:10

openSUSE-11.0-Gilouche-mod would be very nice idea ^^ .

jaminthorns 18. July 2008, 12:45

Thank you for listening. As far as I can tell this skin is pixel-perfect. Amazing job!

Noah503935 22. July 2008, 07:53

Its really ugly, why cant you spruce it up, and try to make a decent looking skin for opera? Internet exporer's skin looks 200x's better than that!:irked: c'mon, what makes this any better then other skins??

jaminthorns 22. July 2008, 15:00

You do realize that this is meant to be a doppleganger to the gnome gtk2 theme, right? It's not supposed to be a completely original design, it's a clone. If you want an IE7-like skin (which is ugly as crap) there are several others in the skins sections of the website.

Noah503935 22. July 2008, 18:33

All im saying is that it is ugly and tacky. There is too much going on in the design and pics. I dont like it. Maybe if it looked more oragnized I would download it, but no thanks.

decimal 29. July 2008, 23:16

i've got a problem with the background of panels in Mac Os X. Is the problem there to others, or am i alone?

arsago 16. August 2008, 01:19

Towolf,

First, I apologies for some jerks that use the comments feature as a free therapy to boost their self-esteem.

That is the only "ugly and tacky" part of this page. Otherwise, everything is just great. Thanks for sharing your work and for making more pleasurable my days working on the computer.

As an Argentinean the first thing that attracted me to your skin design was the name Tango. Could share why did you choose that name?

Thanks again.

belthur 16. August 2008, 04:20

Dear Towolf,

This is by far the best skin I have seen for any application. And I have seen a few

Hats off to your dedication !

tblue468 16. August 2008, 23:45

Towolf, thanks for this nice skin. The new 9.5 default skin is much too dark and your skin is simple and has the nice Tango icons.

@arsago: I think he chose the name "Tango" because he uses the icons of the Tango Desktop Project <http://tango.freedesktop.org/Tango_Desktop_Project>.

grogge 20. August 2008, 16:30

Search and Trachcan in the right-most cell of the tab bar are not vertically centered, or the height of the tab bar isn't adjusted properly.

to be honest i dont like most of your icons at all and the status bar is a little bit...four stars

masterofopera 7. September 2008, 14:34

Wunderful skin for linux (Gnome)

This is a high quality skin ->
All toolbars and buttons are skined and it is made 100% correct.

Eaven the icons from the Adressbar are fitting graficly into the mainbar
(the Opera 9.5x Standard skin does not), this is rare today.

Only the Lock and the Fit-to-width button(s) can made a bit better and the tab preview (background) should made white.

I would give it 95%.

Gort 7. September 2008, 15:33

Wonderful skin for Linux (Xfce), too.

Just installed the 9.60 pre-beta, and the skin seems fine on it. Obviously, something might change between now and the final release of 9.60.

efekan258 8. September 2008, 21:07

Yes,folder icons can be blue like d.t.a theme...

ilgaspa 17. September 2008, 20:55

Hi
Great skin, however I have a question  Il it normal that when viewing an email the header area (the one with to, bcc, subject etc) just above the message pane uses the same background of the toolbars as the recipients background? It's weird, as this way they seem placed on a toolbar instead than on the message pane header O_o

ilgaspa 18. September 2008, 08:00

ilgaspa 18. September 2008, 08:02

It's not easy to see in the image, but the horizontal lines in the pane header get really messy when there are a lot of recipients... it possible avoiding these lines in pane headers?

towolf 9. October 2008, 11:06

ilgaspa, I’m aware of this. I tried hard to get rid of these lines -- they are actually all miniature toolbars -- by switching some skinning defines around. But this broke stuff in places I didn’t like, so I’ve settled for now with the ugly mail headers.

netsharc 11. October 2008, 17:00

What a great skin! And you care about people who have their tabbar on the right side! I didn't like that the tabs on the right side are very tall though (too much padding), because it means less tabs can fit in there, maybe this is what people mean by compact mode?

For people like me who like a lot of tabs, here's how I changed the padding settings in the skin.ini (beginning on line 404) to make the bars "shorter", I hope you don't see it as ruining your work towolf

[Pagebarbuttonright Skin]
...
Padding Top = 3
Padding Bottom = 2
...

towolf 12. October 2008, 14:10

netsharc, you’re right. The padding was a bit too much. I just updated the skin with 4 and 3 pixels padding. I went for these values to come as close to this look as possible:
[img]http://files.myopera.com/towolf/albums/28186/Screenshot-The%20Widget%20Factory.png

I also improved the gradient in left and right tabs a bit. There was a sharp edge in them.

KozAKi 29. October 2008, 18:57

Another happy comment of this skin! Actually I'll have to logout and launch GNOME 2.24 to see of it looks then.
Nice to see towolf is looking closely at the feedbacks

Khadgar 17. November 2008, 23:30

Quite a nice skin, twolf.

whumann 27. November 2008, 09:22

My favourite skin for quite some time already -- thanks!
The only issue I have: when I have many (say: 50+) tabs open, the icons in the tabs are much smaller than with some other skins (e.g. D.T.A.). That's the only reason I have for browsing through the skin collection from time to time loooking for something even better ;-)

armethos 5. January 2009, 19:59

I really love the look of this skin, the only problem I have with it is that in the address bar, any letters that hang like (i.e. g, y, p, etc.) it cuts off the bottom of the letter. Its a minor thing but it bothers me and I would really love it if this could be fixed.

juanchito2006 17. January 2009, 23:35

Great skin, it blends quite well with Clearlooks, some minor details I'd like to be fixed.

As d.i.z. explained almost three years ago, an icon for default contacts is missing, it'd be great to have it, maybe just a black and white version of contact0. Another minor annoyance is the lack of good highlighting of tabs and the top of them when using the system palette, it's a bit grayish in my configuration.

Anyway, this is a great skin and I hope these problems would be fixed

towolf 18. January 2009, 15:13

armethos, I don’t see that on my system. Are you using something else than Linux? Care to post a screenshot?

juanchito, I think I left the default contact icon out because I found the list of emails to cluttered with stuff. I think is basically a transparent "nothing". Interpret it as: "no card, no contact" & "is contact, got card". About the tabs, they looks exactly like Clearlooks, right? This is what I want. And about color themes. I don’t use any.

Votapardo 21. January 2009, 10:33

I love this skin, but it is a bit too big. What about a compact version?

juanchito2006 27. January 2009, 02:01

towolf, I appreciate the response. Though I tweaked the icon thing by hand (not so hard actually), it's more visually pleasant to have an icon by default, I just replaced contact_unknown.png with a semi-transparent version of contact_known.png, and it looks way better.

Another change I'd to see is the use of a single gradient in a group of toolbars, having gradients for each is not very pleasing in the mail view, for example.

Anyways, I know this is a very well done theme (it's the main I use on Opera in Ubuntu), and I expect I'll keep improving

juanchito2006 27. January 2009, 02:02

"it'll keep improving", I mean

aleksandarkazi 18. February 2009, 23:23

This skin keeps me using Opera
One thing that I am missing iz the ZOOM OUT icon...
Thank you !

NylyanAranel 26. February 2009, 02:53

This skin is simply amazing! Great job!

efekan258 9. June 2009, 13:30

Thanks for update. This is my favourite skin  Keep working...

giannosg9 14. July 2009, 08:58

how can i put more tabs on speed dial???

towolf 15. July 2009, 17:18

efekan, thanks
glannosg, install the beta of Opera 10, or a more recent snapshot. You can then configure the number of entries on the speed dial.
If you notice that the dialog is not skinned like the rest, you a re right. I’ll come to that soon’ish.

efekan258 1. August 2009, 00:42

i think it's right time for update  Speeddial and search box must fix after last snapshot...

mnicky 13. August 2009, 13:54

Yes. Especially after releasing Beta 3, it is time for updating Tango CL Skin ;-)

(i. e. add dots for identification of opened tabs that have not been seen yet)

Btw, good work! Keep doing...
:-)

webrider 29. August 2009, 15:20

Perfect work! This is my favorite skin

very good work on this. i'm making it my default :D

infodesigner 20. October 2009, 19:54

One of my best skin setups. =D

But how about the icons' license? It's the same from the Tango project? (free for use)?

bpm 5. November 2009, 05:51

Many thanks; my skin for years.

Only quibble: HTML mail icons . B, U, I make a lot of sense: apply effect to initial, multimode communication; and those dark + orange format icons are, well, not quite the usual unobtrusive clarity.
