THIS IS A MACINTOSH NATIVE SKIN. This is only for MACINTOSH Opera 9.2 or higher as it implements a new feature this skin requires.

This skin is designed by and tested by many Opera Mac users to allow Opera to integrate better with Mac OS X. There still is a lot of work to do to get it to integrate completely. This skin is here to help it along hence its name, Entr'Acte.

Entr'Acte is french for "between the acts." It is an Opera term used for a musical interlude in between acts. I chose this name because it describes completely what this skin is about and associates it with the browser's name.

This skin might look okay or not on Windows or Linux. I don't care either way. Sorry, but it's a Mac skin, one of the few that exist for Opera.

Changelog:
1. The spinner once made by Lachralle has been replaced by one of my creation that greatly resembles the native spinner.

SUPERB!

konic 3. February 2007, 13:50

This is strange, - I'm on Windows XP (SP2), Opera 8713, and
this thing looks just like G100 put it - SUPERB

MoeGreene 3. February 2007, 15:59

Beautiful! Great work!

intelimac20inch 5. February 2007, 06:58

Great Theme! Keep up the great work. :-)

konic 6. February 2007, 02:19

Well, I have to say that on Windows (XP) there ARE some problems :frown:
For example, context menu F12 does not show checkboxes,
and somehow JavaScript is OFF (!?)
Could be some other issues.

Khadgar 6. February 2007, 15:52

konic, the skin isn't made for Windows as it is a native Mac skin... and those problems have nothing to do with the skin as I can't change shortcuts nor turn off settings through the skin's ini file.

Made the bold, red text bigger so people will understand in the future... Opera really needs sections for different platforms and an Opera 9 skin section as this skin wouldn't work on anything but Opera 9.

konic 7. February 2007, 00:30

I know that it was done for Mac OS, but I tried it on Windows anyway.
Could you explain why it shouldn't be running on Windows?
It's just a bunch of png files.
And can it be 'modified' to make it work under Windows?

Khadgar 7. February 2007, 02:37

It's a native skin and requires Mac OS X's native UI elements to function properly. It's the same reason why Windows native skins do not work on the Mac. I can't promise that a native skin for OS X works on Windows or Linux.

Because I have it programmed as a native skin it would take a lot of work to get it to work on Windows. Opera 9.2 weekly build 3602 for Mac introduced a new feature in the skinning system that we in the Mac Opera community have been begging for years, to be able to skin anything over the native UI. The reason why we asked for this is because the Aqua UI elements are impossible to replicate using Opera's skinning system. I have no way to properly test Opera on Windows as I use a Macintosh. I have a stripped-down version of Windows XP (custom ISO created through nLite so I can use Windows in Parallels without much memory usage) so I can test websites I program in IE 6 and IE 7 (wish I could just give those users the finger :D).

I could install Opera in there to make a Windows skin, but the only reason why I even learned how to make skins in the first place is because the standard Opera UI on the Mac is atrocious to say the least. I've worked (and am still working) on making it as good as I can with the tools Opera allows me. To sum it up I'm not a Windows user, so I cannot make Windows Opera skins effectively.

If anyone wishes to make this work better with Windows they're welcome to it, and I'll even provide code and images from previous versions of Entr'Acte that attempt to mimic Mac OS X UI elements, but I ask that an experienced Opera skinner tackle this feat as I won't give lessons on how to skin for Opera. There's plenty of resources.

Very nice, clean skin. Looks great on my G4 mini, 10.4.8. Thanks for all your work.

mjharper 17. February 2007, 09:41

A very nice skin. It's become the default for this new user.

I had to do a google search to find the 3602 weekly build - perhaps you could put a link in the description?

Khadgar 19. February 2007, 17:01

All weekly builds are at the Desktop Team's Blog. The newest versions are shown at the top of the page. This situation with this requirement of a new weekly build will only be temporary as they will release Opera 9.2 in the not so distant future.

Vitis 22. February 2007, 03:05

Cool. I wish we could have more Native Mac skin.

Ilgaz 8. March 2007, 13:18

Why isn't this skin default on OS X installation of Opera?

rabbitmoon 26. March 2007, 15:41

Very Nice and Clear skin

aleksanteri 30. March 2007, 12:27

Great!

YtseJam 7. April 2007, 11:33

Can we get a screen shot of this skin in action for us non-Mac users?

Khadgar 9. April 2007, 05:20

What's the point? Doesn't work on anything but the Mac, anyway.

p00ya 9. April 2007, 14:12

Awesome job, an improvement on the default Macintosh Native skin. However, the text in the tab bar gets truncated very quickly in comparison (open up lots of tabs and soon all you'll have left is the icons). There seem to be some other problems with icons overlapping text (e.g. the zoom control, the +magnifying glass will overlap the 1 in 100%).

Khadgar 13. April 2007, 04:06

p00ya: The text in the tab bar is part of Opera's normal functionality and nothing I can do and I don't know what your problem is with the zoom control. I don't skin that part so if there's a problem with it in my skin there's a problem with it in Opera's default skin as well. I use that on a daily basis and have never had the icon overlap the 1.

konic 14. April 2007, 15:20

YtseJam,
It kinda works on Windows.
Of course there are issues... >:frown:
I mean, you can safely install it, but ...
there are some issues.

mark_poleon 15. April 2007, 10:42

Windows users can install this skin.

drunkensurgeon 20. April 2007, 14:18

Super!

Liberalist 22. April 2007, 12:40

This is a great skin, thank you so much! They should make it the default for Opera on Mac OS X.

YtseJam 23. April 2007, 17:20

Khadgar, what do you care? Can't provide a screen shot? DON'T.
Some people like to LOOK AT THINGS. Sheesh.

guineapig 30. April 2007, 13:41

Khadgar 30. April 2007, 13:46

Well I care because I created the skin, obviously. Download it and you'll see just what it looks like. If I provide a screenshot people on Windows and other platforms will expect it to look like that when it doesn't. The best thing for you to do is download it, find out it looks like crap on Windows, and move on to someone else to annoy.

YtseJam 2. May 2007, 11:01

You miss the entire point. Typical.

HarrisonX 5. May 2007, 04:31

I really like this skin. Good Work.

I'd love to see a "unified" version, rather than just the old school pin-stripes.

K.Enquist 13. May 2007, 03:59

It's easy on the eyes and looks clean-not comic. I like it. I like comic too, just not on my skins. Thanks!

Dark-Dx 15. May 2007, 22:01

I like it, not the best but it's good, using it right now

fernar13 23. May 2007, 02:32

Esta de fabula muy bien diseñado.

fernar13 24. May 2007, 04:07

Si tienes tiempo haz un tutorial para realizar skins para opera mac

manfred_macx 19. June 2007, 06:41

I guess I'm in the minority as I prefer the default mac skin. Here's why:

I like the blue highlighting of the active tab while the non-active tabs have a background color that is not darkened as opposed to having them darkened à la Safari. I find it easier to read the titles on non-active tabs this way, while the active tab stands out even more.

The white border and shadowing around the address bar buttons makes them stand out. The lack of border along with the gradient on these buttons in the Entr'Acte skin makes them fade into the bar at the top to the extent that the arrows barely look like arrows.

spotthehall 21. July 2007, 08:13

I was waiting for a good Mac skin and this is (IMHO) the best so far - if the skin could be unified that would be the cherry

decimal 2. April 2008, 15:39

the best one on mac os

would it be posible to have the same skins without aqua effects?

Thanks!

syncalt 26. April 2008, 20:27

SMOOTH Dustin! Thanks.

Chas4 16. May 2008, 20:01

can't download it, get a 400 bed request

clean 5. June 2008, 15:32

That pic with the curtains looks awesome on my screen - you haven't got something like that as a wallpaper, at all, have you?

Psicko 1. July 2008, 18:03

Muy simple...

OakdaleFTL 2. December 2008, 05:02

It is indeed a good skin... Hope you don't mind, if I tweak it for Win XP/Vista users: I can make "educated" guesses about the effects used.

Thomas Chah 3. December 2008, 08:16

If you want to work with Windows, checkboxes, edit, radio_buttons, and so on are required, and of course the skin.ini should be edited accordingly.

jaytwo 20. December 2008, 23:42

Thanks for providing this native Mac skin.
I prefer it to the default Mac skin.
My condolences for all the needless Windows chatter.
You would think the big red text is big enough and red enough for Windows users to understand that this is not for them.

Ok, ok they don't want to feel excluded, but can't you Windows users just get over it already and if you can't live without Mac software and can't live with yourselves for choosing Windows exclusively, then get a Mac and stop blaming OS X users (eg. YtseJam go home to your PC and stop wasting our time).

darumaki 1. March 2009, 11:13

Looks ok on PC except that all the preference windows have black background color and are unreadable.

Chas4 28. March 2009, 19:38

@darumaki

THIS IS A MACINTOSH NATIVE SKIN. This is only for MACINTOSH Opera 9.2 or higher as it implements a new feature this skin requires.

surferjoe 5. April 2009, 22:23

surferjoe 5. April 2009, 22:51

while were at the dumb questions...i have tried 5 times to change my avatar to no availatar...wht am i not doing right?

ggriffin2 22. June 2009, 18:25

Khadgar

I can understand your earlier frustration at requests from Windows Users for answers and extras to accomodate them. But one request made by a Windows User would be helpful for us Mac Users as well: a screen shot on the "Find more skins" Listing and/or the Download Page makes it easier for someone browsing for a particular 'look' to know whether they want to try out Entr'Acte.
There was one other Skin that didn't include a screenshot or sample buttons, named VISTA ORIGINAL. As with yours it would have been helpful if they had provided a screenshot or two. Unlike yours, the author didn't specify whether it was Windows-only skin, so I had to download it, in order to determine both whether I liked it, AND whether it would work on my Mac. Not a big deal, but you might actually save yourself a question or two by including a preview.
