Yep, still a classic!

Thank you!

Thanks. Much better

sirmille 12. June 2008, 16:38

Ahhh... didn't stand the black tabs in opera 9.5 :p

neilpwc 12. June 2008, 17:34

Superb! Just what I was looking for. An interesting design decision by Opera for the 9.5 release to chuck out a Vista-style theme. It looks terrible in XP, with classic styles. This is much better. Many thanks!

Reaper 12. June 2008, 17:35

Thanks to the Opera-Team :-)
The new Skin is also nice, but I prefere the old one.

But..: The active Tab is smaller then the other Tabs, that wasn't in 9.2(, or?). But it's not because of the Skin itselfs, I think. Is this maybe changeable? I have so much Tabs, then it is a little bit disturbing.

Opera is the best! :-D

Greetings
#Reaper

faen 12. June 2008, 17:57

I didnt like the black line in the 9.5 skin.

uFENix 12. June 2008, 17:57

Thank you very much!

tenor 13. June 2008, 00:01

Back home!

faen 13. June 2008, 04:03

The new 9.5 skin looks great in Vista, but not so good in XP.

mildlycrazy 13. June 2008, 04:54

Anyone else having trouble downloading this? I keep getting denied access.

mcris 13. June 2008, 05:26

Me too I get denied acces. What the...?

demjan 13. June 2008, 05:54

same thing.

LAG1 13. June 2008, 06:00

Apparently the people behind Opera don't want people to be able to ingore all the ("hard") work they put into version 9.5's (crappy) interface....

(Registered just to get this, the new one looks just simply dreadfull)

demjan 13. June 2008, 06:05

i suppose that they might turned off all unnecesserry downloads, except new 9.50 version, to reduce the servers load, because none of the skins are available.

Jokoto 13. June 2008, 06:12

That might explain why all the photo albums are offline as well at the moment.

Gnome6 13. June 2008, 07:18

I'm keep getting this:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /mitchman2/skins/opera_9_classic_skin-2.zip on this server.

Is there a workaround?

solcuadrado 13. June 2008, 08:09

When I try to download this to install over the horrible new 9.5 skin (looks like it would suit a funeral!) Opera 9.5 gives the meassage "Unable to continue. Please select a skin made for your version of Opera." So now I'm stuck with that new dull grey/black "thing".

serola 13. June 2008, 08:16

files.myopera.com server down. Therefore non of the skins can't be downloaded. Please wait till server work again.

Gnome6 13. June 2008, 08:17

I have managed to download skin but now I'm getting same meassage as solcuadrado.

probastel 13. June 2008, 08:20

Hi folks,

i've found the skin in rapidshare

http://rapidshare.com/files/122102782/opera_9_classic_skin-2.zip

Put the file in the folder "skin" in your "profile" folder.
(type "opera:about" as url in your browser to see the exact location)
restart opera, and press [shift]+[f12], select "opera_9_classic_skin-2"

nbelyh 13. June 2008, 08:26

Same thing.
That weird message about wrong version. wtf?

Milos22J 13. June 2008, 08:39

Thanks for the rapidshare link, works great!

ralphbk 13. June 2008, 08:40

Thanks from me too, probastel.

rimidalvcho 13. June 2008, 08:54

Yep, I don't like the new default one, too. Too dark for me, sorry :(

Jolliffee 13. June 2008, 09:09

I need to fix this, just downloaded the update, the tabs are just not visble I have at least 60 open!

I need to change the tab colour quickly or I'm moving on!

rimidalvcho 13. June 2008, 09:32

The rapidshare link works great, you can try it now if you want your old skin back... or if you prefer to stay with the new one simply change the color of the tabs from tools-->appearance-->color scheme (down left). Good luck

mihmanz 13. June 2008, 09:43

This skin is essential 'must-have' download after installation of 9.50 Final because of its terribly bad default skin. Thank you, without classic theme as download, 9.50 Final would never have a chance to be installed on my PC. I wonder why classic is no an option from installation. Maybe developers just realize that in such case almost every user would easily change the default to classic!!!

Icfu 13. June 2008, 10:38

Windows native is still needed.

It's weird to see so many users being happy with a skin which ignores system colours...

Icfu

Pedro-NF 13. June 2008, 11:06

The best skin ever, and I can't see why it has been removed from the current 9.50 install. Worse still, it was there when I did the upgrade install today from version 9.26, and the new version simply removed it, something it had absolutely no business doing. The current default skin looks like Vista and gives me the creeps.

Pedro-NF 13. June 2008, 11:31

Downloaded the skin but, while it does restore the classic icons, it changes the tabs to the horrid rounded style and I want them square. Also found a bug in the History section - it won't remember your option for showing the list of visited sites (like ordered by date) and resets it every time. Rolling back to version 9.26 or 9.27 - luckily I backed up the whole installation before upgrading to 9.50.

e5150 13. June 2008, 17:08

Great job! thank you very much.

nikhilreddyk 13. June 2008, 18:20

thank u very much
cant stand the new skin in 9.50
this works good

penguin666 13. June 2008, 19:08

Is there any way to display the text of some of the buttons as well as the images.

The new opera 9.5 skin looks nice but its a bit too slick for me. For the other people complaining, its not actually that bad, just look at firefox's design, thats what happens when the people designing have very little skill.

ericzb 13. June 2008, 19:49

Much better now, guess I need upgrade to Vista to appreaciate the new theme.

DonZabu 13. June 2008, 20:37

Thank you so much.
I absolutely despise both of the new skins, and the overall look and feel of Opera was the only real thing that kept me from Firefox.
Once again, thank you so much.

invagrante 14. June 2008, 02:42

Here's another vote for a "Windows Native Classic" skin. I can't stand how it looks now; my girlfriend thought I'd injured myself after the string of expletives that resulted from Opera 9.50 firing up.

efpc2000 14. June 2008, 03:27

thank you, it's better than new...

Epsilon1 14. June 2008, 10:23

Please could you also produce a "Windows Native Classic Skin". Really don't like the new skins (too grey) and am not a fan of the non native skins.

Nakeisha 14. June 2008, 11:10

Thank you so much for this.

Rijk 14. June 2008, 13:24

Someone already made a 'native classic':
http://my.opera.com/community/customize/skins/info/?id=8087

Rijk 14. June 2008, 13:26

@penguin666: post in the Customize forum for such questions, it is certainly possible.

pusrob 14. June 2008, 16:51

Thanks for the old default skin. The new one doesn't look good on WinXP and neighter on GNU/Linux. It's too "Vistaish". I think providing the old skin as default would be much better. This is the only default browser skin I was and am really satisfied with. Neighter firefox, neighter knoqueror, neighter IE 6 or 7 could make a default skin I really like. Only Opera could achieve that. I think the old skin should be shipped with later releases as default. This will avoid unecessary traffic. Thanks.

kotekzot 14. June 2008, 19:51

much needed, thanks!

Zoomer 14. June 2008, 21:22

Thanks for this skin, and thanks to the devs for making it easy to find and download!

Elias89 14. June 2008, 21:34

Thanks!

musickna 14. June 2008, 23:09

Thanks a lot - I appreciate this.

Sac 14. June 2008, 23:25

I like this one better.

Pure_BY 15. June 2008, 01:31

This skin is great, the new 9.5 one is really unprofessinal and ugly as hell. I can not understand, how the designer could convice Opera-team to accept that piece of shit. I believe that his hands need to be chopped off for this work.

Anyways, with this old skin I have a small problem — buttons light up not with that kinda “gold” color any more, but with some kind of blue, which I find really ugly. Any way to change thath?
(I do not use any color schemes)

rafaelluik 15. June 2008, 03:42

I like both... flirt
Will continue with new, is beautiful to me.

JayFoxRox 15. June 2008, 09:18

Great skin - I don't like the new one neither. It looks horrible if you use the XP Classic skin.
However, the hover colors are wrong in this one for buttons and scrollbars. They were yellowish in the old versions - now they are blue. anyone fixing that?

Loceka 15. June 2008, 13:01

As above, I couldn't stand to have all black and white icons in the new default skins, it was depressing. ^_^

Nice job to have released this skin ! (first time since I use Opera that I download a skin...)

ChrisWard 15. June 2008, 13:54

Thank you so much. The new official one is awful on a mac too. A mess of inconsistent buttons and far to dark folder icons.

kacrut 15. June 2008, 14:52

Aaaahh!!....my Eyees!!! my Eyees!!!.... *install old def skin* Oooo! my eyes Stop twitching. Thanks maan.

Le()niD 15. June 2008, 15:00

Thank you sooo much
I was confused why the opera desktopteam delteed opera classic skin out of their release installation...

masterofopera 16. June 2008, 01:29

Thank you!

I still continue liking the more flat blue tabs (this are my
favorite tabs).
I absolutely do NOT like ( =hate) the tab-close buttons of the new
standard skin and this old skin does have not this mannnnny bugs.

klingoncowboy4 16. June 2008, 04:25

Thank you so very very much

John Tod 16. June 2008, 04:59

9.5? yecchh! Thankyou Petter Nilsen you saved me from changing browsers.

katpatuka 16. June 2008, 08:10

I think opera developers' heaven is too far away from their users' earth. How could they otherwise decide to push us these ugly black buttons under !? Those are ergonomically a desaster! The 2.50 Beta version was still ok having the old classic skins... Why don't they create a nice poll for such decisions?:furious:

xwhale 16. June 2008, 09:16

Great skin. But in this skin "New tab" icon in page tabs appears shifted up. How can I fix this?

probastel 16. June 2008, 09:48

Hi folks,

here is my version of Opera 9 Classic, with old icons and grey windows style background.

Hopefully soon be also published here at Opera Skins. It's currently
tested by Opera. For those who can't wait, here is a rapidshare-link:

Put the file in the folder "skin" in your "profile" folder.

restart opera, and press [shift]+[f12], select "opera_9_classic_skin-2"

The new dark look for Opera 9.5 is positively hideous. Thank Heavens the estimable Petter Nielsen made the attractive, familiar style available. Well done, old man.

Ido_Alpha_Omega 17. June 2008, 11:24

Opera 9.50 skin is utterly, utterly terrible compared to its "vanilla" predecessor. Thanks for having this up.

aabob 19. June 2008, 21:27

THANK YOU!

Honestly, what was the Opera team thinking? You don't suddenly change the skin without giving users some way to revert to the old one. I'm really surprised they did that.

TheAtilla 19. June 2008, 21:58

For windows Native looks - check out the "Minimalist Native" skin. Best looks on windows since opera ... umm .. what was it .. 7 ?

jkb 20. June 2008, 12:32

Thanks! But the color of scrollbars and button is different :frown:

jpstotz 20. June 2008, 17:17

This is still my favorite theme, but it has one bug: If you enable line break for the Tab-Bar, the "Open new Tab"-Icon and the "Show/Hide Panel" Icon are "jumping" out of the bar (their vertical position increases about 15 pixel).

hurrgeschnigge 21. June 2008, 08:50

I only like this skin... thanks... now I must find next a way to remove those 2 new useless buttons on the tabs toolbar (new toolbar and pannels)... I hate seeing them there (there is already a pannels button on the left... the long one... so the new one is useless, and for new tabs I use mouse gestures like right click-down or middle click on the toolbar)

othellox 5. July 2008, 10:58

Damn... I can't edit... problem solved, there's a remove from toolbar option...

vaxxo 8. July 2008, 16:38

I pray for this skin not to disappear … :worried:

WhiteHayabusa 1. August 2008, 14:40

I like this classic skin more than new skin in Opera 9.5 because it's too gray. I try to use new skin, but finally I return to the old one. Thanks you!!

thorthal 6. August 2008, 13:19

The new black design is awful!!

algarcia 20. August 2008, 07:14

wow thanks, it feels so much better now. i'll go download it now on my other computers!

slogic 27. August 2008, 18:44

Simply the best. Coubln't live without it within Opera 9.5x.

paulchanseaud 3. September 2008, 22:26

Left pannel buttons are very small

ideala2 4. September 2008, 20:47

Just "upgraded" 9.5, and the new skin felt alien to me. I did try to get used to it, but some things didn't feel right.

The new one is not that bad either to be honest - way too dark, difficult to distinguish tabs/icons (active and non active), and the [x] on each tab is too small, but some things the classic skin can borrow actually. (The add tab button and certain stylistic elements). Plus... It's still one of the best browser skins available - it just can't match up to this one.

I was so glad to find this on here still. It feels perfect. Everything looks right, the colours are just right, the icons are just right. I feel at home.

This "classic" skin is a testament to design and ergonomics. It is ENTIRELY USABLE. (Unfortunately it just isn't flashy/moody enough, eh?)

joefri 8. October 2008, 15:35

Thanks! Its a shame, Opera doesnt include an option in the setup to keep the old skin :frown:

ibender 9. October 2008, 17:04

This one should be included by default.

lit-uriy 10. October 2008, 00:48

Thanks!
Why Opera doesnt include an option in the setup to keep the old skin? :frown:
This one should be included by default.

igorditerni 10. October 2008, 21:11

You have to upgrade this skin for the new scroll marker function available in Opera9.6!

I came here because of the shockingly ugly skin on 9.63, including a dark-gray tab bar that obscures the also-dark-gray Close and Trash icons and fuglifies (it's a word, check it) all the tabs.

Please get psychological help for the depressed designer who designed 9.63's "1984" skin. He may be about to jump.

noskill1343 26. January 2009, 06:02

i like tihs skin, very classic, nice skin

ZaphodBeeblebrox 29. January 2009, 20:47

I am very happy with this skin, but (and i apologise profusely if it has been answered before) how do i make the icons in the panel have text as well?

I can't find it no matter how hard I'm looking, and It's really killing me, anyone that can answer this will really make my day.

thomassd 12. February 2009, 15:34

This is the best of skin thanx for Petter Nilsen!

jyatcheva 12. February 2009, 15:43

excellent:headbang:

Chocobollz 9. April 2009, 06:45

Well, after using the Opera 9.5+ default skin, I feels that it's better than the old ones. If you don't believe me, try the new skin for several days or weeks and then try to revert back to the old skin, you'll be surprised by how you're feeling that the old ones looks very amateurish compared to the new ones! :-)

Sitka_Ak 20. April 2009, 01:36

This is really great. Thanks so much. Any chance you can add shading for the active tab, as in the earlier Windows native skin?

I am finally upgrading from 9.27 to 9.64, instead of giving up on Opera entirely. I have been a registered Opera user for years, but stuck with 9.27 out of absolute dislike for Opera's new face. Looking at skins again today and finding list was my move of the last moment.

krzysztof11 28. April 2009, 21:14

its super skin clasic :)

acerz 30. April 2009, 05:32

How do I get the font on the tabs that have just loaded (or that have not yet been clicked on) to appear the usual red rather than the current blue?

Fer84 28. May 2009, 20:27

It's time to upload a 9.5 default skin I guess...

Opera-Browser-Fan 6. June 2009, 07:41

Very successful, neat and convenient skin, looks great on all systems. As many users, I too regret this skin was taken away from Opera, and it certainly should be back in Opera 10.

hari_seldon 16. July 2009, 14:02

Siempre ha sido mi skin preferida, incluso con Opera 10 Beta. Lamentablemente, con la última build (10.0 build 1642) los botones quedaron con un borde.

----------------------------------------------
Always my favorite, even in the Opera 10 Beta. Sadly, with the last build (10.0 build 1642) the buttons now have a contour.

LeonardoN 8. August 2009, 05:24

Es cierto, este skin en Opera 10 no queda muy bien. :frown:

Sаdlеr 14. August 2009, 09:11

hari_seldon, you can try "Opera Classic Fixed" theme to get rid the contours.

dAEk 12. September 2009, 18:39

Are there any plans on updating it for Opera 10? There's another classic skin titled "Opera Classic Fixed" but it contains a number of issues not present in this skin.

darkonix 18. September 2009, 16:41

In my opinion this is the best skin at the moment for Opera 10.

belcris 29. September 2009, 05:58

First I did after installing Opera 10, load this skins, thank you so much

pinhaomega24 2. October 2009, 22:39

it need to be actualized has many bugs
in actual builds, but still one of the best

mergitur 21. November 2009, 00:31

I have tried to survive one or two of the flashy, metallic, UeberCool other skins, but inevitably I find the classic skin, soothing, balanced and sane. Please continue to offer it as an option, since it has something quintessentially-operaesque about it that is charming and compelling. Thanks
