Brief mission statement:
This goal with this skin is to create something that is clean, light and usable for the web professional. It will not steal focus from the important things in your browser (i.e. the Web), nor will it waste screen real estate.
The name is the shorthand version of the hex code for red, and this skin is close (but not exact) of the Opera brand colors white and red.
I am grateful for all the downloads of the skin, and appreciate the comments and messages I have received about it. I cannot go with every suggestion, but I do read them all.
There are no restrictions on derivative works, but keep in mind that it was made out of love for the Opera browser, so if you clone it for competitors I might come after you with a stick o' hurt.
It is made for Opera 10. It is made on a Mac.

BTW small glitch: widgets panel icon is 16x16 blue icon, no the default one.

Few requests...
- Style the reload/stop, home... buttons. Default ones are just too... fugly.
- Bring back the default smileys.
I see that this is just a v0.5 though. Looking forward to the updates.

The only thing that could be changed would be the background for the Panels icon on the tabs bar, so that it would blend with the addressbar like active tabs do.
Benjamin Joffe 21. January 2009, 15:41
My gripes:
- Unfocused tabs should have black text instead of grey (harder to read, highlight of focused tab is enough to draw attention).
- Gradient at the top from med-grey to dark grey accelerates too fast at the top (my mind shows a sharp line where it changes).
- Tabs in preference dialogues need more horizontal padding.
Personally #c00 is not for me, almost stopped using it until I remembered I can change the colour in the 'appearance' preference, you should remind people about this in the blurb!

I see the problem there. I am use the buttons can be improved, but when updating it I will focus on the default layout, as there are so many custom combinations possible that supporting them all is tricky.
Ricardo 3. February 2009, 01:48
I understand your situation ... but I think the problem is not the buttons but the background of the main bar. The background of the address bar is white and the main bar is dark is it?
Of all continue to feel their way to better skin for Opera made so far .. Thanks!
Jan Henrik Helmers 13. February 2009, 13:50
I see your usecase and made the main/personalbar white. Lets hope others like it as well (it looks pretty good on my mac).

Jan Henrik Helmers 14. February 2009, 11:36
You got me there, I start out with what I personally use, and then build from there. Having tabs in other places than the top is not supported - yet. I want to support it eventually, but it is not at the top of my list. Your vote for it is duly noted.
konic 14. February 2009, 12:28
As for the personal bar text, in the version 0.6 it looked like 'bossed'
now it is just plain.
I don't know is it possible for a text to have shadow?

Although there is one thing to fix.
Panel toggle at the edge of window has a shadow which causes it's color doesn't match the whole.It's ok while you hoover mouse over the toggle (it brightens up and gets true color ).
Anyway,thanks for this brilliant work!

Great skin but...:
1. please replace the navigation icons (the default ones are a good point to start and hope that the Wand icon will still change it's face when a saved form website comes up as the default one do);
2. there is no rollover box for the Panel icon (I think one like the Add tab icon is using, will fit, right?
Just these for now, I had installed it just 2 minutes ago
More to follooooow...
Thanks Jan, great job

Why adding it if it's annoying in the first place ?
imho, the first solution was much better and you could see with just one glimpse of an eye which tabs content is refreshed.
Jan Henrik Helmers 6. March 2009, 09:05
Unless I can make it less annoying it will be removed. There is also the problem that it does not respect skin coloring. But animated PNGs will be included somewhere, I like the technology.

Excellent work ******

I do love the red and the style of tab bar. However, the tab bar is a bit narrow. Close buttons aren't bottom-aligned to tab names and icons are scaled down.
I gonna be cooler if you increase the height of its a bit.

The animations can be annoying, but IMHO that is mostly because some web pages seem to auto-refresh without actually changing anything.
Maybe you could offer an optional version where the refreshed tab just changes colour.

You could add slightly more red by turning the "Close Tab"-button into red while hovering the mouse over it. This should also work as some sort of "warning" if someone attempts to close a tab that way.
vpx 28. June 2009, 22:53
I have 2 suggestions though:
- Remove the white border on websites
- Add some color (make the reload button green, make the stop button red, etc)

It's clean and I like the colors the way they are, IMHO there's absolutely no need to colorize even a single button.

@Scrollbar
I have had some recommendations, but am a bit unsure of the direction to take it. If possible I want to avoid using rounded corners.
@Personal bar
I do not see any white shadow there, but I see it on tabs and in the panel. I will try to make it smaller.
@Site preferences
If the last (Network) tab is missing then that sounds very bad indeed. I am unable to reproduce it, let me know what version/OS you are running so I can dig in some more.

Also, in the mail panel the "Labels" and the "Important Labels" have the same icon, this can be fixed by modifying the following line:
Mail Labels = icons/label_important.png
Also the hover effect on panel items is hardly distinguishable from the normal button state.

- Address bar buttons (reverted) & added to the rest of the interface.
- New wand graphics.
- Attempt at a fix for the issue with the panel button.
When all the quirks are ironed out, I will add support for other configurations (tab bar on the sides etc). Maybe it will be in time for Opera 10?

i'm not the author but my suggestion is trying to remove the [new tab] button beside the menu button. maybe that works.
Jan Henrik Helmers 6. September 2009, 20:23
I see that "Feeds" look different, it is because there is no icon shown. I will investigate.
@NiH
Fonts are not exactly 3D by nature, but maybe I can abuse text-shadow to make it stand out.
@Phillipseer
This menu thing is clearly not right. I will get a windows environment set up in a week or so, and will test this then.

In addition: the tab thumbnails are not playing nice with the tab bar. I see that Hicks added a horizontal separator line to the "drag bar", I will probably do the same.

It is great for mac, gay, clean, minimal and no distracting colors.
I like the bottom connection between the tabs and the directions bar.
In version 10, if you open the new tab thumbnails, this connection works even better and the active tab stays well perceptive.
On the other hand the close button gets a bit weird.
I think this should really be fixed.
Also, there is now this new cool dot that is added at the top right of the tabs, when the information is updated or not visited yet. It would be nice to have this indication here too.
I like your 'funky' scrollbar.

specifies a border around the message view to distinguish the site from the user interface.
I see the border color is specified unlike other skins.
So I checked with the skin.ini, and it indicates :
[Mail Browser Window Skin]
Clone = Padding
Padding Right = 0
I would like to have the border specified for Opera Standard Skin as well.
Can you tell me how to do it?
