Proxy Setting

Im currently using opera 7.0 browser, basically upon utilizing the automatic proxy configuration, (the field below is directed to the proper proxy address) im getting this message ""Automatic
configuration failed, Proxy configuration is automatically disabled
for this session". Is there anything else im missing here nor alternatives
that needs to be done?

I have never used the automatic configuration, I just use the manual settings at the top of that window. Are you using a local or online proxy?

Mine works with manual settings. Try uncheck the auto configuration and see if that'll work?

Proxy cont

Im using an online proxy. Granted this can be done manually, I have gotten this to work on IE6 -->Internet options--------------->Connections and under the heading of Dial up and VPN, click on settings. I clicked on the "Use automatic configuration script" and underneath that field, I typed the destination address.

I did the same identical configuration in Opera 7.0 but have not been sucessful instead recieving that annoying add.

All that I have found about automatic proxy config is here: http://www.opera.com/support/search/supsearch.dml?index=332&session=08ffeec406d0bc6840c847c92c6a0a15

but it is not clear where to find the proxy.pac file . . . confused

Opera's automatic proxy configuration is _very_ strict -- generally, .PAC files which work in IE, will not work in Opera. .PAC files which work in recent Mozillas usually will work.

MadGhigno: see http://wp.netscape.com/eng/mozilla/2.0/relnotes/demo/proxy-live.html for more information about .PAC files. You can use any local or server-based file for this.... as long as Opera understands the format.

reply .pac

Yes it is a .pac file, thats lame considering it wont accept it, one would think Opera would be more flixible as its advertised.

pacific99x -- PAC files written according to the original standards will work fine... its PAC files which use the syntax introduced by MSIE some time back which usually will fail.

In any case, documentation of these files is quite scarce -- the Netscape documented I posted remains the only authorative source I can find.

.pac issues

I see, thank you for clarifying and differentiating the standard and incompatibilites.

I used "", which is what my Netscape 7.x uses, but Opera complains that "Auto Proxy Config failed."

Does Opera support local auto proxy config?

Opera 7.23 works well with local PAC files.
You can use HiProxy (http://hiproxy.com) to find and verify proxy servers, then automatically create PAC file for Opera.
