Opera 9.0 Preview 1 is now available for download

We are still at an early stage in the development of Opera 9 (code-name Merlin), however, we are very excited about the next version of Opera and are releasing this Preview to the Community to give you a taste of the new technologies and improved standards support we have been working on lately. Some of the new features include:

- support for XSLT, Canvas 2D, and Web Forms 2.0
- rich-text editing on Web pages
- site-specific preferences
- a new IMAP back-end
- access to Opera's preferences via opera:config

Also in this release are new default shortcuts. We continue to make progress on our BitTorrent support and it will be included in a public release as soon as possible. For complete changelogs and download links see:

- Windows
- Unix
- Mac

We invite users to discuss the Preview in the Forums and Newsgroups. We are particularly interested in feedback about:

- speed and stability
- IDing as Opera by default
- rendering regressions since Opera 8.5
- problems connecting to secure sites using TLS 1.1
The Opera Ninja recommends a forum search to find answers to your questions ninja

Thank you for your awesome work on SVG support! Now my menus almost work exactly as they should (http://www.codedread.com/) and my Tetris game works (http://www.codedread.com/yastframe.php)!

Can't wait until this is official! I'm going to start doing some SVG testing soon on this build.

The ua.ini is already inside opera6.ini. Guess we just have to add the rest... bigsmile
A syntax list would be nice, though whistle

Question: is opCache, in the installation dir, just for the help pages, or anything more?

WOW! I am already drooling over this one, and I am VERY excited to see the final release! Just one thing: Please continue to develop the BitTorrent support! I think with all the changes that are posted in the changelog PLUS BitTorrent, Opera would make a quality-jump of several lightyears (and that from a browser that is already that great)!

I think it is. Click the panel selector itself to hide the panel only.

The syntax as used for the spoof settings is a general syntax, use it like this:

[server name]
Section name|Prefs parameter

... and add the server name to the [Overrides] section.

example.org settings will be overridden by foo.example.org settings. Not *all* settings can be overridden in site-specific settings, but the most useful settings can.

OpCache is only used for Help pages (unless you change that yourself in opera:config smile )

Nope, just install in a different directory, and remember to use the correct directory once you upgrade to the final Opera 9 in the future. Don't set this version as default, and hardly anything will go in the Registry.

On Google.com if I hover my mouse over any item on the navigational menu the screen "jumps".

Edit - It seems that the problem was with the link-notify user.js I was using. I removed the script and all works fine now. I'm loving this release more and more I tell ya. bigsmile

Rijk: am I right in assuming that ua.ini is no longer functioning, and that its functionality is now built in to opera6.ini under the [User Agent] section. If that is so, could you clarify how I need to mod this to make it work with my bank, since Opera 9 stopped working with it, where it was working with 8.5.

I had a line in ua.ini like:

www.nwolb.com=5

which worked fine; doesn't seem to work in O9 though unfortunately. Thanks for your help!

I think it is. Click the panel selector itself to hide the panel only.

Curious part is that if you drag the "x" button the Buttons > Panels section to the same place, the behaviour is normal, unlike the "x" button in the "default" section.

Huge release. Thank you for your work. bigsmile

And now some problems (using hesido test case pages):
  • pagerenderingstresstest - besides original problem with slow box movement updates, there's another one - some refreshing glitches (I thought that these would be dealt with in Opera 9, but it seems it added some more of them),
  • avisitedstylingperf - not fixed
  • some rich text editing controls does not work - one is in polish auction system - allegro (but it needs an account) and another one is here: http://www.kevinroth.com/rte/demo.htm . Both have same issue - edit box is not editable wink

Urgent help! seems I killed my Opera! I delete all the skins accidenatlly while interchanging profiles and now Opera interface looks bad
How I can download a skin without reinstalling? (because I saved some options and I don't want to lost them and I can't install Opera over this one because when I do that always Opera works incorrectly) yes, I can go to the customize Opera and select a skin, but like the interface is damaged I can't select anything in the dialogs!!!
Many Thanks

7Capture-1.png
EDIT: ufff, solved it, I forgotten that Opera applies the skin automatically and now is fine
