Nigerian uniformed police officers in a street fight

"Three policemen engaged in a brawl at Ajegunle, along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, Nigeria, endangering the lives of hundreds of road users with their AK 47 rifles held recklessly as they exchanged blows."

Kind of systematic of the place but a rather sad reflection. Certainly doesn't do decent people any favours? Sad to say the least.

Is that a kind of get-together or a 404's response to an embarassing thread about one's fatherland? Not quite a surprise. You raise your patriotic flag and yell out your national anthem when it comes to boko-haram threads. Even at that, you side-walk the thread.

Don't be harsh on danbuzu. Its kind of a puzzling suitation, i mean how often do you see someone from latvia that resides in Ireland and is well connected to Nigeria. The story is more interesting than two Nigerian policeman exchange 'blows'. Just saying

Yes, the fact that they were recklessly holding machine guns while "exchanging blows" sure makes it more interesting. right

Oh yes, Nigerian police are often armed with the AK47 and other heavy arms like the Mark4 riffles even when they are not in emergency response, hardly would you see them carrying pistles like in Europe or other careful worlds: they even intimidate the civilians with their arms. It's as if they are in a war front with these heavy weapons.

I don't know nothing about Nigeria but I do know about Angola. Exactly the same and constantly used for extortion on Europeans. You have to carry money everyday for paying them at each kilometer. When in traffic you often get in front of you a pick up with a guy at the back with a mounted heavy machine gun pointed right at your head... just hope he doesn't hit a bump and presses the trigger...

One thing i'd say about the Nigerian police: they totally piss me off! They prefer the show and use of force and intimidation rather than the use of intelligence

Any police force that carries machine guns as a regular order of business cannot be any such thing if you ask me.

Kind of sad for a country to get landed with a load of smart arses acting like Gods in uniform. A few years asgo I was stopped in a street by a foreigner to ask where a street was. I was sure I knew it but we were yards from a police station so I told him to come on in with me and they would confirm where the street was. He looked horrified and stepped back and I was puzzled at his demeanour. I coaxed him in and the desk officer was friendly and directed us so I walked him along. Then I found out that the police in his country were like paramilitaries and strtted about and intimidtaed people. He said you could never ask a poliecmean like here for a street you would get a mouthful of abuse. Even being near a police station frightened him and I had to explain that here things are different. Where have such places gone wrong?

Somewhere omnipresence turns into omnicontrol. It's not uncommon for a police officer here to let the badge on his chest go to his head. Don't ask a TN state trooper for anything, unless you wanna full background search. But generally speaking municipal and county cops/sheriffs are quite friendly when approached. The only time I've ever seen an assault rifle carried on the streets, in my short time, was after 9/11 and the soldier was happy to tell me it wasn't loaded. Police usually carry a shotgun as a secondary. With the trend moving to less than lethal (or better put "probably not lethal") the shotgun has proven more versatile. I have seen drug task force patrol cars with a rifle mounted in it, but never seen one actually pointed at anyone. Why someone would need 2 is lost on me, don't those things have interchangeable clips?... What's that fella in the picture gonna do when he catches up to that guy? lol, Seems his hands are a bit full and sitting a weapon down isn't wise.

What he's saying Frenzie is about the horror of assisting to a "police" to kill for nothing in a way that maybe you never saw.
When caught, you will not want to be at the place of that fugitive. I guarantee you that.

No, well... a correlated thing. We are always expressing indignation regarding everything that surrounds us and yet our lives looks like paradise to most Africans and others.
It should be mandatory to Europeans to live one month per year at Africa. Then we'll choose much more carefully our causes to be. The same applies to Americans.

Don't you sit on your honest opinions laujustice. On the matter in hand you are onto the truth. Instead of the police serving and protecting they use the siutation for their own devious ends. Mabe one day or time as things progress in a developing country it might be diferent but at present you can't help feeling sorry for a people who have a police force that is there to intimidate and be negatively elitist.

The answer most certainly is at home and no-one denies that however how long it will take is an open calendar and from what has happened over the decades since 'independence' not very encouraging.
