Opera, misc thoughts and issues

Hi,

I'm testing Opera again after probably a year. Every time I try it, I love it but then I leave it. I think it's really a great applications, with lot of good features. Said that, I still find some glitches and, kinda weird, still most of them are the same I found the first time I used it.
But here are a few thoughts.

Definitely the thing I really love about Opera is the mail client. I think there is nothing comparable in terms of speed, easiness of use, usability, its look (love the interface), power of filtering tools and, last but not least, definitely superior to any other client out there for the clever idea of labels. Ok, Gmail has got something similar, but I guess Opera did it first, even though first or second doesn't matter. It simply works beautifully in Opera.

Anyway, things I don't like or I still struggling with.
Some websites, for some inexplicable reasons, look different from other browsers. An example: majorgeeks
Another odd behavior: why when I save a password I've to retype every time user and password? Is there any auto complete hidden option?
Sometimes by clicking on a link doesn't work as expected. Unfortunately I don't have an example behaving this way, but for instance on FB when I click on a link it seems the page doesn't refresh. It may be strictly related to FB?
Weird behavior with loading pages if there are images: scrolling the page returns in weird tiled images until the load is not completely done. Only at that point the images look correct. (have a look at the images below)

Another weird behavior is that sometimes it hangs up apparently for no reasons till I force refresh. This is very strange as Opera has got a good reputation as being a very fast browser. It seems really fast indeed but this is not always true, unless all the times it just doesn't fully the page.

Another graphic refresh glitch with frames:

One more related to overlapping elements:

By the way, I've no issues like any of the above with other browsers. The laptop I'm running Opera version 11.51 on is a Dell XPS 17, 16gb ram with a GeForce FT 555M.

Hope some of these issues have been already fixed or are gonna be fixed soon.

Its best to use a descriptive title and post one issue in each thread. Threads like this with vague titles often get closed.

Its not hidden. When you type a password/username to login the Password toolbar appears and asks if you want to save the details for resuse. Log ins are saved in wand.dat for reuse with the Wand toolbar button or FastForward command.

Some of the reasons are explained in the sticky thread.
Web site compatibility

It depends on the causes. If issues are due to some setting on your PC, they will never be fixed. If they are due to a problem with the site they may or not be fixed by the web master concerned.

To address specific issues, start specific threads with a descriptive title, and explanation of the issue. A search for "majorgeeks" or "Imgur" may reveal previous threads on those particular issue.

Opera works somewhat differently from other browsers, and it's not entirely intuitive.

When you return to a site for which you have saved a password, the login fields are surrounded by a yellow outline. The username and password are not filled in, but all you have to do is press Ctrl+Enter (or click the Wand icon) to log in. You don't even have to click in one of the input fields first.

When a website doesn't appear as intended in Opera, it is usually the site's fault. With bad or invalid code Opera has to guess, and it sometimes doesn't guess the same as other browsers. There are no rules for how browsers should handle bad code (although it's coming in the next version of HTML) so we cannot say that one behaviour is right or another is wrong.

The site you linked to lacks a document type declaration, which puts all modern browsers into 'quirks mode' where they attempt to emulate older browser versions. This differs a lot between browsers. To increase the likelihood for similar rendering cross-browser one should always use a doctype declaration that triggers 'standards mode'.

Thanks AutisticCuckoo,

I didn't know about the Ctrl+enter short cut. That's what exactly what I needed.
