Drafts folder with IMAP

Hi,

I'm using the latest stable version (11.51). I have 3 IMAP accounts set up, each with its own drafts folder. I'd like to be able to save drafts to the correct account's folder, according to the From: field in the email. Is that possible?

Also, when I try to drag a mail from the All Messages->Drafts "folder" into one of my IMAP drafts folders, Opera thinks about it for a while and then a second copy of the email appears in the All Messages->Drafts "folder", but nothing appears in the IMAP drafts folder. This would appear to be a bug. Could anyone confirm?

Thanks,

WPB

Opera doesn't support specifying an IMAP folder as a drafts folder yet. Opera just recently got support for spam and trash folders, so hopefully we get support for specifying a drafts folder too.

As you guessed, if you want one of your drafts in the IMAP drafts folder, you have to copy it from "All Messages/Drafts" to the IMAP drafts folder so Opera can upload it to the server.

First, open up the message list for the IMAP drafts folder. Then, click the view button on the mail toolbar above the message list, goto "show" and make sure "show sent" is checked. You need that to show draft messages since they're like sent messages. If you still don't see the message in there, try right-clicking the message in "All Messages/Drafts" and choosing "copy". Then, right-click in the IMAP drafts folder message list and choose "paste". Dragging in this case should do the same thing, but try it the copy and paste way just for kicks, if needed.

As for the second copy in "All Messages/Drafts", it shows up there because when you copy the message into the IMAP drafts folder, that copy retains its drafts flag. And, because placing a *copy* on the server is considered a new message, you'll then have two entries in "All Messages/Drafts:: one for the local-only copy and one for the copy in the IMAP mail folder.

There's already a bug about Opera copying over the sent flag when copying messages from "All Messages/Sent". That bug can be for this drafts issue too. As for the rest of the issues, that'll get better once Opera supports a drafts folder.

For now, either just ignore the extra copy in "All Messages/Drafts", or delete the local-only copy after the copy from the IMAP folder shows up in "All Messages/Drafts".

Or, after you copy the message to the IMAP drafts folder, go under the you@example.com access point in the mail panel for the account and drag the message to another IMAP folder (like "test")l and then drag it back. Doing that might cause it to lose its drafts and sent flag. Then, you can keep the local-only copy in "All Messages/Drafts" for use with Opera.

Hi burnout426,

Thanks very much for the pointers - that's been a huge help. Now I've got "Show sent" ticked, it's all starting to make more sense.

I really hope Opera gets proper IMAP drafts support soon. I checked out Opera's email client about 6 months ago when I got fed up with Thunderbird, but it really didn't have enough functionality to be useful to me then. When I revisited it a week or so ago, I was pleasantly surprised to find how far it had progressed in a short time. I was using Postbox in the meantime, which I think is a great client, but even that had its deficiencies. It would be fantastic if Opera mail matures enough to topple both of those giants!

Thanks again,

WPB
