Open the "All Messages/Received" message list. Click the view button on the mail toolbar above the message list, goto "show" and make sure everything is checked that you want checked (try checking "show hidden" for example). Also, make sure "view -> period" is set to forever. Look in other views too. Make sure your sort the message list by date so the messages are easier to find.
If you still can't find the messages, delete the IMAP account and add it back in. If you still can't find them, use the "standalone installation" option in the installer to install to a folder on you desktop. Then, setup the IMAP account in it to see if you can see the messages.
But, if you can find the messages by searching a view, the should show up in the view when the search field is cleared too.
