It looks like you have not yet read and followed the guidelines. FYI,Sorry but I don't understand what you mean when you say "edit your thread title to keep it open"
3. Use descriptive thread titles. Try to summarize your post in the title. It should reflect the content of your post. "Opera crashes" is a bad summary. "Opera crashes when logging into Yahoo Mail" is a good summary. Include the site name, if applicable. As a rule of thumb, use at least three words in the subject. However, try to keep it brief.
Java installed but not working on www.speedtester.bt.com would be a better title.
I went to http://www.speedtester.bt.com/ and the PERFORMANCE TESTER is working at the top of the page. I don't have a valid phone #, so could not complete the test.
Type: opera:plugins in the address bar. Is Java (TM) Plug-in showing up and enabled? You can test if Java is working at the java.com site: http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp?detect=jre&try=1
If Java is not working, go to Preferences (Ctrl + F12 or Alt + P) > Advanced > Content. Is Enable plug-ins checked? Then click on Plug-in Options. The detected plug-ins will be displayed in a box and there is an option to change the plug-in path.

On that site, the complaint of not finding Java pops up before you get to putting a phone number in so it was working for you.
I had already checked with the Java site which reported Java installed and working.
Following your suggestions, when I initially typed opera:plugins, Java didn't show so I clicked "Refresh plugins" and it appeared. The speedtester site now seems to work.
As a matter of interest, I don't have a "Plugin Options" button in Preferences/Advanced/Content

Neither does anyone. Its a checkbox, and it needs to be enabled.

EDIT: I booted a laptop into Windows and upgraded Opera from 11.10 to 11.51. There is no Plug-in Options in the Windows version. I apologize for the confusion.
