Already searched, no luck: get rid of duplicated emails
I searched on this forum and on google, but I haven't found the solution yet.I want to merge my Thunderbird emails into Opera. It works fine, but I get a lot of duplicated emails.
Is there a tool to spot the duplicated emails and get rid of them?
Thanks

Will assume you're talking about POP as with IMAP, you just setup the IMAP account in Opera and don't need to get anything from Thunderbird.
With POP, the problem is that you need to avoid importing messages that are still on the server because when you setup the POP account in Opera, it will fetch them from the server. Then, you need to delete the imported copies of those messages and keep the fetched copies.
In each Thunderbird mbox file, there's an X-UIDL header with an id for the message. If the message is still on the server, the popstate.dat file will have that id in it.
So, it's possible for Opera to check that popstate.dat file and choose to not import messages that are still on the server. However, Opera cannot rely on this because Opera can never be certain that popstate.dat is up to date. For example, if you're importing from an old Thunderbird backup and the message is no longer on the server but it still present in the backup, reading the unupdated popstate.dat file would cause Opera to not import that message, even though you as a user would want it imported, in this case.
With that said, the only way to avoid the duplicates is to tell Thunderbird to remove all your messages off the POP server so that they only exist fully in Thunderbird. Then, you should be able to import into Opera no problem without any duplicates.
Then, if you needed to upload any messages back to the server, you'd:
1. Create a label and drag the messages you want to upload into it.
2. Disable checking for new messages in the POP account's properties.
3. Add an IMAP account to Opera to connect to the account.
4. Drag the messages from that label to the "Inbox" IMAP folder to upload them to the server.
5. Once they're uploaded properly, shift + delete on all the messages in that label.
6. Delete the IMAP account.
7. Turn on checking of mail for the POP account and check for mail to have Opera fetch the new messages from the server.
Or, you could just setup IMAP in Thunderbird and upload all the POP messages that are no longer on the server to the "Inbox" folder on the IMAP server so that *all* messages are on the server. Then, you'd just setup the POP account in Opera without importing anything and Opera will fetch all messages where you won't get any duplicates.
Also, see <http://operawiki.info/ImportPOPFoldersFromThunderbird> for important compacting steps before you import from Thunderbird.
