11 tabs open, 687mb in memory

Hi,

at the moment I've 11 tabs open and by checking the task manager I get this:
http://postimage.org/image/5onbw9tw/

Just wondering if that's normal or something is weird about the ram used here.

No it's not normal. Opera has some serious memory issues apparently. I've seen my opera using nearly 2 gigs of ram...

As said, it depends on the pages you have opened. Alone, the amount of ram used by a program doesn't say too much and really does not matters unless it is affecting the performance of the program and/or computer.

That's the thing about Opera, it uses your memory when it can. What's the big deal? Unused memory is wasted memory. When less memory is available (e.g. you open a 'heavy-on-the-good-old-ram'- application) opera will not use as much memory.

Opera doesn't use a fixed amount of memory. You can run opera on a 128mb system, or an 8gb system.

I have puppy linux (light distro) on a minimal specs computer, it runs Opera fine and no trouble with memory or cpu load (300MB and 700MHz cpu). I also have Opera on a 3GM system, and no sign of being too heavy. In some cases where I have pushed both opera and system specs as much as possible (library research with different online services, and mulitiple windows running simultaneously) Opera and a regular laptop performed fine. My other browsers crashed.
