CC address selection problem

Greetings
When composing mail, clicking CC (and BCC ?) to add another contact to send a carbon copy to - I expect to start typing part of the name and to be presented with a ever narrowing list of hits, a live search in other words. Like the TO: field.

However pressing the first key SELECTS AND ENTERS a seemingly random member of my voluminous address book - which I then have to delete, go back and start over, navigate through all the pages via mouse to find the target entry.
What am I missing?

I'm not sure what you're saying.

The drop-down menus next to the TO, Cc and Bcc files are not find-as-you-type. Typing in the fields themselves will find as you type, but that works the same for all 3 of the fields and I don't see Opera doing anything wrong.

Maybe you could explain a different way.

Ok I see.
my mistake is to click on the CC header button then starting to type while the first page of the address book drop down is open.
That results in the vexing behavior I mention above.
Instead I need to NOT click on the CC header button but rather into the field itself. I get it.
Thanks.
