New Pandora interface doesn't always work

Has anyone tried the new Pandora interface in Opera? I'm trying to use it, and I've noticed that everything works perfectly in the beginning. But after I switch focus to a new tab, and then come back to the Pandora tab, nothing on the interface is interactive at all. No colours change, no hovers appear, and clicking results in zero reaction. The music, however, keeps playing the way the Energizer bunny keeps going. I'm using 11.51 on Linux, 64-bit.

I've got the same problem. I'm running Opera 11.51 on Windows 7, 64-bit. Pandora works at first, but sometimes after switching tabs the whole interface freezes but the music keeps playing. I use Pandora a lot, so this is pretty annoying. I'm going to have to resort to opening Google Chrome every time I want to use Pandora.

For me, Pandora returns a message about being unable to load in Opera. I also use Pandora each day and often several hours a day, but it is now entirely unavailable to me via Opera. I am using Opera 11.71 on Windows Vista, 32 bit--and on XP, 32 bit. Both are major FAILS. From the Pandora help section, it appears Opera is simply not supported anymore. Which do I give up, Opera or Pandora? (Yes Opera fan boys and girls, it's a call. Chrome looks awfully good these days. There are plenty of browsers with lots of nice features, but only one Pandora.)

Might I suggest the Opera team jump on fixing this problem right away? In fact, maybe you just need to pick up the phone and talk to Pandora.

I feel the pain, big time. I've personally always just had a separate installation of opera just for pandora, the older 8.54 version. Unfortunately pandora no longer works at all in 8.54. I've got two ways to suggest that'll work around it though until opera works better with it. I've had nothing but trouble with the new format, pretty as it may be.

First one, open a new opera browser window, rather than a new tab, and run pandora by itself in that opera browser. By having pandora as the only thing in the browser, I wasn't running into the problems with the interface freezing up since pandora's tab was never losing focus.

Option two... install the pandora desktop app. It's a small little interface that doesn't use much memory, works pretty well, but the drawback is that you don't get all the artist recommendations so it's not quite as useful for discovering new stuff unless the new stuff just happens to get played by chance. This option may only be available to pandora one subscribers though.

I am experiencing exactly the same problem. Win 7 x64, Opera 11.51, Build 1087. Once I've moved out of the Pandora tab to work in other Opera tabs for a little while and come back to the Pandora tab, nothing responds - the pause/play buttons, anything. The music continues to play, however. Refreshing the page fixes the problem... but then it just happens again once I leave for a bit.

It does not seem to happen right away - i.e., I can switch from Pandora to another tab and then right back into Pandora, and Pandora will still respond. I wasn't able to get an exact idea of the time, but it seems like with just a few minutes away from the Pandora tab, the interface freezes.

That being said, I don't know if staying in the tab and working in another Windows window (or just leaving Pandora up) would cause the same problem... i.e., if it is just a general problem with the new Pandora interface, or something specific about leaving the tab.

I received the following response from Pandora today regarding the problem. I've not yet tested it. Might everyone who tries it report back here and I'll consolidate our outcomes in a report back to Pandora?

I'm sorry, we don't support the Opera browser, mostly because it uses proxies to route traffic to servers outside of the US and we are legally obligated to stream within the US.
That said, if you aren't using the "turbo" features, it should work. I would recommend clearing history and cache and restarting the browser and trying www.pandora.com.
Let me know how it goes.

Hi ZenWarrior,

Pandora was not working for me and after reading your post, I finally got it working. The Pandora tab does stop

responding if I open a new Opera Window. I have tried this multiple times and it stops every time!!! I should say

that Pandora stops but I can click on the ads on the left side.
I can open new tabs but not a new Opera Window.

Here is one more thing I discovered, if I open the Opera windows first. I opened four separate Opera Windows then

I opened Pandora. It worked fine and I could use the other Windows, but once again opening a new Opera Window made

Pandora stop responding to mouse clicks.

Hoping this will help others, this is what I did:
From Settings-->Preferences-->Advanced Tab-->Select Content-->Click on Manage Site Preferences-->
Add an entry for www.pandora.com or edit it if one exists
in the General Tab --> select Open all pop-ups
in the Cookies Tab --> delete each and every cookie and Select --> enable Accept Cookies
in the Content Tab --> Select All options BUT DO NOT Select Enable Plugins Only On Demand (This seems to

the most important option to get it working) and DO NOT Select Enable content blocking

in the Network Tab --> For Use Proxy --> No
--> For Use Application Cache --> Yes
--> For Let the website know my location --> Yes
--> For Browser Identification --> Identify as Internet Explorer

I am sure that some of these do not need to be changed but those are the items I changed. It would not load the page until I de-selected Enable Plugins Only On Demand

Thanks,
Jack
