I have just experienced the same problem, five minutes ago. It happened on mercurynews.com, though I'm not sure if it's related to the site. I've been to that site before and not had this issue. I tried reloading and going to other sites, didn't help. The x on the tab was greyed out, the ctrl-w option did not work and right-click option to close tab was also greyed out. Very strange. v11.51 Build 1087. Nothing pinned here either.
